For the first time ever, the leader of the Viking Vampire Angels, Vikar Sigurdsson, has been talked into celebrating a traditional Christmas! The tree has been decorated, the gifts have been wrapped, and the stockings have been hung. And that's mistletoe, not cobwebs, hanging from the ceiling of the creepy castle full of vangels … really! The icing on the vampire cookie comes when vangel Karl Mortensen rescues Faith Larson, a battered young waitress, from her abusive boyfriend and hides her in the castle amidst the Christmas chaos. But what Karl thought was a frail young teenager is actually a very tempting woman. And she thinks his fangs are sexy! But a strange "Christmas visitor" at the castle and demon vampires up to their old tricks could threaten the budding romance between Karl and Faith. It's an impossible match—a human and a vangel—but Christmas is a time for magic. Karl and Faith don't stand a chance …

Christmas In Transylvania is book #4.5 in the Deadly Angels series by Sandra Hill. I was dying (get it…dying…Transylvania…vampires?) for a good paranormal Christmas book and I FOUND IT in this one! I have not read any of this series previously but it was fine. I am interested enough that now I want to go back and start at the beginning.
Vangels or Viking Vampire Angels all live in a huge castle in Transylvania, Transylvania, Pennsylvania that is! Karl Mortensen is one of the younger vangels having only been turned forty some odd years ago. He has taken a liking to a certain coffee shop in town, maybe visiting a certain waitress there, until her co-worker tells Karl she is worried about her. She hasn’t been to work in a few days. So she gives Karl directions to a dilapidated old trailer park where she lives with her abusive boyfriend.
Faith Larson can’t find a way out. Her boyfriend has been abusing her and this time, it is worse than ever. He says that if she leaves, he will find her, and kill her. She has pretty much given up. That is, until the oh so handsome Karl shows up and rescues her. He takes her back to his castle and nurses her back to health. As she heals, it doesn’t take long for the feelings to develop between Faith and Karl. And it doesn’t take long before she figures out there is something different about Karl and his housemates.
“This was no crush he felt for Faith. Somehow, he’d managed to skip all the steps from first attraction to slam-dunk, I-am-a-dead-duck, putty-in-this-woman’s-hands.”
Alex, the wife of Vikar, is in full on holiday mode. She has everyone decorating every corner of the castle and the head cook who is Lizzie Borden no less, is baking cookies by the hundreds. Things really get crazy when Lizzie gets a little generous with the rum in the rum balls. Faith has found something here she never had before, the sense of family and belonging. This is the Christmas she never had growing up.
The problem is that Michael, the archangel, has forbidden unions between vangels and humans. But Faith is Karl’s life mate. Can they convince Michael to let them stay together? Will this be the best Christmas of their lives or the worst?
This book was the perfect one for me today. It’s exactly what I needed. It was funny, sweet and filled with plenty of holiday cheer. I loved it.
Christmas in Transylvania is a novella and book #4.5 in the Deadly Angel series. In this installment the focus is not on any of the Sigurdsson brothers, but on one of their friends and fellow vangel Karl Mortensen. Karl was a fairly new vangel having only been turned forty years ago. The Sigurdsson household is currently in the throes of Christmas celebration; however Karl is not keen on the idea as it brought back painful memories from his past prior to him becoming a vangel. To escape the drama surrounding the Christmas celebration, he went to a nearby café to get some coffee and chill out. While there he received some upsetting news about one the waitresses, Faith Larson. Little did he know that his decision to help Faith would change his life in an unexpected way.
The story was entertaining and engaging. It was fun experiencing the holiday spirit through the eyes of the characters. I enjoyed reading about them all but my favourite were Vikar’s adopted twins Gunnar and Gunnora. They were both so adorable.
The plot was well developed and detailed, however, there were some issues that were left unresolved. No insight was provided as to what Karl’s sin was and what led to his becoming a vangel. In addition Faith’s abusive boyfriend disappears and nothing more is heard about him.
If you love holiday themed stories that are short, sweet and romantic, and you are a PNR fan then I recommend you get a copy of Christmas in Translyvania.
I don’t think I have ever read a Christmas paranormal book or novella until a couple of weeks ago. Christmas and paranormal doesn’t exactly go together. This novella really showed me how it can be done, and done well.
Transylvania, Pennsylvania. Yes, this is the setting of this story. It’s a few weeks before Christmas, and the Viking vangels( immortal vampire angels)have decided to do up Christmas right this year. Since they live in a castle, this includes huge trees, wreaths, presents, and Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas carols playing. That last one is courtesy of the little children of the household, and was the bane of the adults life. Karl is just one of the many vangels that live in the castle. While out for coffee, he hears that the waitress that usually waits on him is out sick, only the other waitress thinks her boyfriend has beaten her again. Of course Karl goes to find her and decides to take her home with him to the castle, even though she’s human. Faith has been beaten both by her boyfriend, and by life. When she meets Karl, she starts thinking that maybe there is good in life after all. And so what if he’s a vampire angel, her boyfriend was the evil one, not Karl.
This ended up being such a fun read. I had never read any of the other books in this series, but I found myself looking up the books immediately upon finishing this, because I had enjoyed it so much. The characters were amusing, and there was so many in the story that you just know have had their own previous books, or will be getting one. I am sure if you read this series, you will enjoy every minute of seeing the other characters that you have met before. I thought they were all pretty great, including the real Lizzie Borden, now a vangel. That one gave me pause, but ended up being just another fun part of the read.
Okay so, Viking vampire angels? This was a new one for me, but there is some world building as far as explaining how they exist, and some other interesting details as well. For a novella, it was just enough. It was also enough to intrigue me enough to want to try another one by this author.
I found this to be well written, and had plenty of Christmas oriented details to make this a good holiday read. If you are looking for an adult, Christmas read, I can highly recommend this one.(RabidReads.com)
A hilarious and quick read; one that is sure to leave lovers of the Vangels series in stitches and wanting more. I have been a fan of Ms. Hills books for a long time, but had gotten tired of the same old, same old. I decided that this might be the book that puts me back on the track. I think it did a perfect job. This is a novella - not long enough for anyone to get bored, just long enough to flesh out the characters and build a nice little holiday story and add some hot romance to the pot. A great read to interrupt the hassles of the holidays and to let you take a brief breather!
I enjoyed this humorous paranormal holiday story. It had enough action, plot, and romance for a short story. The small children and their antics were so cute. I liked all the Christmas spirit. Viking Vampire Angel Karl rescues Faith from an abusive boyfriend.
Karl Mortenssen is a loner and sometimes needs a break from activities at the castle especially with Christmas approaching and all the festivity it has engendered. Often frequenting the same little diner he takes a vested interest in one of its' waitresses, Faith Larson. When Faith isn't there and another of the employees mentions she's concerned about her too, Karl goes looking for her. What he finds is shocking: Faith has been beat up, she's living in frigid inadequate conditions, and is terrified. Rescuing her, Karl brings her back to the castle, where he takes care of getting her healed--body and mind. Of course Karl winds up falling in love with her...just in time for Christmas!
big fan of sandra hill! have read her other series. i think it's brilliant the way she's paralleled all of her series so that they're all related in some way. AWESOME! i haven't dug into this one yet but needed something quick & light to have on the ipad for my vacation. i was a little lost as i hadn't started at the beginning. now of course, i'll have to start w/#1 and keep going. great characters. good sexual chemistry/tension. steamy sex scenes. some humor. i liked Karl & Faith and was fully engaged in their story from the first chapter.
Christmas in Transylvania: A Deadly Angels Novella (A Deadly Angels Book 1)
The love story of Faith and Karl. It's Christmas time in Transylvania, Pa. Karl rescue Faith from her abusive boyfriend and save her life. And now he smell of peppermint and she smell of cotton candy. Will Michael let them marry or will it be a no?
A very fun read about vampire Viking Angels. I loved the concept of the vangels and loved the authors style. There was a sense of humor underlying the drama, or maybe a sense of drama underlying the humor. It's hard to say which. But it was delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Ms Hill takes a new and entertaining approach to the vampire world, with engaging characters and comic relief. Not as absorbing as The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward, but well crafted enough for a lazy afternoon.
Karl is moody and takes a drive after reminiscing about childhood Christmas past. He stop at a diner and is unhappy to hear his favorite waitress is not well and the owner suspects being abused by her boyfriend. He goes to check up on her. Read and see how this turns out.
Karl Mortensen and Faith Larson were made for each other. Karl saves Faith from an abusive boyfriend. But each character will have you rolling on the floor. A must read.
Karl a Viking Vampire Angel, had met his Fated mate. Faith Larson. Karl save Faith, when her co-worker, informed Karl that Faith was in a very abusive relationship. Karl, can not help himself, he has to save Faith!
The vampire Angles are different. I found it hard to believe. The characters were well written and likable. Even with the strange mash of two Vikings and vamprie Angle s
Very quick, engaging, and entertaining read. I haven't managed to find time to read any of the other stories in this series yet, but now know that I need to find the time to do so!
It was a super cute short story. I loved how we got to focus on Karl but I do wish there was more information on him like about his time in Vietnam and what was his sin. It was a quick book the story was a little rushed but again I am guessing since Karl is not one of the seven brothers there wouldn't be much focus. It is a cute short story to read.
Short, sweet but honestly, not as good as the full-lengths.
Karl Mortensen is a young vangel and when he died, he had a wife who he hadn’t seen since before he died in Vietnam. There are rules to being a vangel and one of them kept him from his wife who only recently died never knowing he was reborn to fight demon vampires and take care of the innocent. When he discovers a young waitress at his favorite diner needs rescuing, he doesn’t worry about the rules but instead, brings her home to the castle in Transylvania – that’s Pennsylvania, not Romania – hoping to keep her protected until he can figure out what to do with her to keep her truly safe.
Faith Larson finds herself in a very strange place with a sexy man she finds more attractive than scary even though she swore she saw fangs in his mouth on more than one occasion. Battered and bruised, she’s embarrassed and wants to get out everyone’s hair as soon as possible until those in the strange castle make her feel more welcome here than ever before anywhere. The castle is huge but slowly coming to life with all kinds of Christmas activity, and it reminds Faith how much she loves Christmas. She also likes Karl, the man who rescued her – a lot.
CHRISTMAS IN TRANSYLVANIA by Sandra Hill is an adorable novella and whereas it isn’t as exciting or even as humorous as the full-length novels of the Deadly Angels series, it was quite enjoyable and a wonderful lead in to the Christmas season. I did enjoy the interaction between the characters we’ve come to know and love through the first four books. Seeing Vikar and the other Vikings doing all the Christmas things that Alex wants done even through grumblings is quite fun – even Lizzie Borden gets into the act and gets carried away with the rum.
Whereas, this is a cute departure from the demon fighting, sin redeeming Vangels we’re used to, Karl is a wonderful hero and the way he’s so sensitive to Faith’s needs is quite romantic and sweet. It would’ve been nice to know Karl a bit more, his past, and his sin, along with how Michael brought him into the fold but it’s only a novella, and there just isn’t time so I understand that.
If you’re looking for a quick, sweet, romantic and a totally Christmas immersed read to get you into the mood for the holidays, I do recommend reading CHRISTMAS IN TRANSYLVANIA, a Deadly Angels novella by Sandra Hill. Oh, even if you’re not into paranormal, vampire angels, and demon fighting, it’s okay because this one is mostly about Karl and Faith, and Christmas with the Vangels – they even volunteer to sing in a choir and fill in for the characters in a Nativity Scene. They are angels after all. Who knows, after reading this one, you may fall in love with the Vangels as I did and decide to go back and read the series. They are really hot Vangels.
***purchased for my own personal reading but I'm sharing my honest and unscripted review.
So I read this one a little while ago, but for some reason I had forgotten to write the review for it!! LOL…so I do apologize, so I hope that I will be able to write a solid review and remember the thoughts I had while reading this one. Christmas In Transylvania is a novella, and is centered around Christmas–which is my all time favorite time of the year, and when I am reading my romances…there is just something so much better when its Christmas themed right? This book is after the fourth book “Kiss of Wrath” Now I have only read the first two books, but from what I remember I enjoyed them. When I was beginning this one, I started to remember what I loved about Sandra Hill. She has a very unique voice in her stories and no other author that I have read can even come close to her. I have enjoyed her books for many years, but this series is very unique. I started out with her Historical romance, which are some of her earlier books. She has many contemporaries, but this series, combines it with a mix of paranormal. The men and heroes in the series, are vampire viking angels!! In this short story we have a heroine that is being abused pretty badly, and the hero “Karl” finds her battered, and takes her away and hides her in the castle, and thus begins their romance. This book was a hoot, with characters from previous books, and for a short story this was very well done. I am very picky about novella’s, and in most cases would prefer a regular length novel, however for the shortage of the story I felt like it was pretty well developed, had some hilarious scenes, sexy viking angels, and women to match them in every way. Loved seeing the holiday theme and this story was a riot to read!! I had so much fun with it, and I just can’t wait to read more from this author. Definitely made me want to read the previous books that I have yet to get a hold of in the series. Rich in humor and steamy romance, and is perfect on a cold winters night while getting ready for the season!! Be prepared for a story to pull you in and wrap its way into your heart.
