Takeover: Ashes of the Collapse Book 4:

Rate this book
After encountering a young boy who watched his father die, David and Jody's trip home is sidetracked. Meanwhile, back at Prairie Winds, the devious nature of certain individuals comes into clearer focus, but the residents of the farm and nearby town may not notice until it's too late in Book 4 of Ashes of the Collapse.

Brought to you by the #1 best-selling - and most prolific - post-apocalyptic author, Mike Kraus.

An experimental fracking operation digs too deep, igniting an underground gas system that causes half of the mainland United States to erupt into a series of fiery sinkholes that consume untold millions of lives. With no way to stop the underground fires, all anyone can do is watch as more of the country collapses and even more lives are claimed...

At Prairie Winds Farm in Nebraska, the extended Carlson family works to prepare their campground and farm for the coming season, unaware of the disaster looming at their doorstep. While their farm is spared from the initial collapse, the most pressing threat is not from mother nature, but from their fellow man.

In South Carolina, David Carlson and his daughter Jody are at a survival camp, and rush to the airport when they catch wind of what's happening, only to watch it go up in flames, trapping them far from home. Forced to travel on foot, their survival skills are put to the test, but the real question is if they have the stamina to make such a long journey back across a fiery hellscape.

As the disaster spreads throughout the country, claiming countless lives, the Carlsons can only survive by doing what's required - if they have the fortitude to do so.

This was a really good story, a good edition to the previous episodes with more excitement & some madness in this ruined world! I do like that it is a family trying to reunite & how they try to help others along the way. A really good fun read! I do recommend this series!

Hunter and Kraus do it again!

Takeover is the 4th book in the excellent Ashes of the Collapse series. The action explodes out of the gate on page 1 with David and Jodie having a near catastrophic encounter with fire and crumbling pavement, and pick up a hitchhiking 7 year along the way. Tensions continue to rise at Prairie Winds, with an unscrupulous cop setting up a robbery to get permission to set up an outpost at the farm. McKenna's actions have deadly consequences. Everything about the book is immaculately constructed. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys fast paced but worthwhile books! 5/5 stars

This continues to be a good series, though David and Jody have become "shiny keys" people. I can't blame them for getting a little boy home, though. I like Jody, especially her cleverness and enthusiasm, but she is also kind of unrealistic in that she is rarely wrong and always cheerful. I just want them to get home because McKenna is a looming problem and Earl is now a big jerk again.
