The day my daughter was placed in my arms, I knew I needed to protect her no matter what it cost. Everyday since then, I’ve only had one goal in my mind - get her as far away from the monster that helped create her. Even if it means leaving the only life I’ve ever known behind.
They say, sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us on the path to the best thing that will ever happen to us. I never understood that.
Until him.
Hunter Calloway slid his way into my life and my heart before I even realised what was happening.
But will he still want me and all my baggage when my past inevitably catches up with me?
Shattered Heart is book 1 of 4 in the Rosewater
Creek Series.
These books are interconnected, therefore it is recommended they're read in order.
3.5⭐️ Where have I read this exact book before? Or is it just in my head? Maybe I’ve over read the cowboy genre 😂
Overall it’s a decent story. Not much to complain other than it was short, the plot was a little lacking for me and there were a couple of writing errors but overall it was a good story.
Although the mmc was pretty good my favorite character was Liv( fmcs best friend) I even cried when they read her letter. If she has her own story that one I’m definitely reading. Really awesome character.
I don’t recall if this was the authors first book. If it was. Good job! 👏🏻 I’m for sure going to keep reading them!
I devoured this book in just 1 day!! That is so unlike me. As it usually takes me weeks haha. But I just couldn’t put this one down. I absolutely loved it.
It made me laugh, cry and got me a little flustered in certain parts 🌶️🥵
I have been wanting to read this book since i first came across B L Payne on instagram! And I’m so in my cowboy era 🤠 right now and I’m so glad that I picked it up!
I absolutely adored this book, read it in one sitting. First of all find me a Hunter 😍 because damn…. And second of all, my heart broke for savannah and she deserved every ounce of love and affection that Hunter gave her and them together with Reign were perfect!
The book was sweet and with a little spicy, very well written and I just loved that the MFC character and her bestie were from the UK (being a UK girly myself) I could relate to how they were as characters and I loved that!
What else I also loved about this book were all the other characters! Liv is my girl, 🤣 after I finished I found myself, hoping that all of the other characters get their own books, because honestly I’m invested at this point, sign me up for more Rosewater creek 💛💛💛
I loved every minute of this book and could not put it down. I read this in one sitting sneaking chapters while eating dinner and staying up into the night to finish. A small town hot cowboy seems to be what every girl needs and I’m pretty close to taking that move to a small town myself. The romance on this book is so sweet and little Reign is the cutest little girl! The found family and pure devotion of all the characters in this book is just beautiful! And Hunter being the obsessed, romantic, soft speaking and dirty mouthed cowboy he is made this book complete! The previous trauma and the darkness is written incredible and I’m glad a certain someone got what was coming. The happy family has been made and I’m just so so happy for them to love amongst the wildflowers and horses!
I loved this small town cowboy romance. Such a lovely read. I was gripped from the first page, never wanting to put my kindle down. I loved the development of the characters and the story. The banter was great. A few tears were shed at the end. I can’t wait for book 2!
Tropes: ✨Small Town/Ranch ✨Cowboy ✨Single Mum ✨Found Family ✨British FMC ✨He Falls First & Hard
Well, B.L. Payne didn’t come to play with her debut novel, Shattered Heart. She came to kick off this series with a bang—and honestly, what a way to do it! I have been waiting for this one for a few months since I first stumbled across her TikTok when she first started promoting the book & wow this did not disappoint!!!
Let’s talk about our FMC Savannah. She’s been through the wringer—her last relationship was so bad she fled the country to escape it. Despite her past, she’s strong, determined, and ready to rebuild her life. That said, I did find myself raising an eyebrow at how quickly she trusted Hunter. I know he’s dreamy, but let’s take a minute! Luckily, he’s amazing, so it worked
On the other hand we have Hunter!!!! Now this guy is practically the definition of “Perfect Book Boyfriend”. He’s such a green-flag, I was almost suspicious. He’s kind, patient, sweet with kids. The man can do no wrong! Honestly, I kept waiting for him to mess up and have to grovel but HE DIDNT!
And can we talk about the side characters? Savannah’s new circle is fabulous, and Hunter’s brother crew is full of bromance vibes. I can’t wait to see who gets a book and what their stories will be. I think I can work out the couples but will have to wait and see.
All in all, this book is sweet, emotional, and funny in all the right places. Bring on book two!!!!
I bloody loved this book!!! Many books about DV always paint a small, scared woman as the main character but the thing I loved the most is that she didn’t dwell on her past! Amazing!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- hands down, one of the best cowboy romances I have read. Hunter Calloway is easily up there with Cade Eaton and Theo Silva on my list of the hottest cowboys to have been written.
Amazing! From the beginning I was hooked ! Rosewater creek has found a place in my soul. I love the characters and the story was so well written. I enjoyed the flow of the story and the amount of time spent on each part. It didn’t feel rushed or too slow and even the heartbreaking parts were done well & beautifully .
Exceptional debut novel .

This is the debut novel from B L Payne, and what a way to kick off this new series! Hunter is possibly, and I can't believe I'm going to say it, maybe a little bit too much of a green flag! He can literally do no wrong! The way he is with Savannah's daughter, Reign, is just adorable and makes me melt! I love that he gave Savannah a nickname and pretty much only calls her that! I just needed a little red in his green flags! 🙈 Savannah is so strong! She went through hell in her previous relationship, which made her flee the country and start afresh across the ocean! I did feel that she was a little too trusting of Hunter considering her past, but I was so glad she ended up with someone like him because she deserves it! The relationships in this book are great, the girl group and the brothers, they each have their own dynamic and I'm here for them! I'm excited to see who we get in book 2. It is clear to see who the couples will be, but no idea on their stories, so it will be good to see!
Beautifully written. Hunter is such a softie. His love for Sav and Reign is so beautiful. Loved the relationship between Sav and Liv. That letter, chef's kiss, had me in tears.
Loved the storyline and loved the characters. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Already have an idea of who and what they will be about but looking forward to reading their stories too.
This book was exactly what I needed after Onyx Storm. Quick, entertaining and easy to read. I really liked all the characters although it did feel a bit ‘copy and paste’ from Elsie Silvers Chesnut Springs series at times. I really liked Liv and I’m looking forward to her and Gray’s story (I assume??). I loved that series though so I’m not really complaining. The mmc was refreshing because he was sweet and laid his feelings out pretty soon, I’m used to the grumpy x sunshine trope (which admittedly I do think I prefer). The romance and spice was *chefs kiss* in this book though!
The writing was very basic and I felt like we were spoon fed all the way along. It would have been nice to not have known for sure that Jordan was in fact Ryan, but given his British accent and the fact he turned up in a taxi instead of a truck was emphasised so much, it seems we needed to be in the know.
Was a good read overall and there were parts I thoroughly enjoyed but still not more than 3 stars! I think this might have been the authors first book and if so, bravo!

It was okay overall, but I struggled with the whole Jordan/Ryan situation—having him in the U.S. after being released felt unrealistic. Fake IDs and slipping under the radar aren't that easy to pull off, so it took me out of the story a bit. The stabbing also didn’t add much to the plot; it felt like it was included just for dramatic effect rather than serving a meaningful purpose.
That said, I really appreciated that Hunter was upfront about his feelings. No grumpy cowboy here—he knew what he wanted and went for it. While it leaned a little into insta-love, I didn’t mind too much because, hey, love at first sight could be real.
However, given that Sav is a survivor of abuse, her trust in Hunter, especially when it came to her daughter, developed waaaaaay too quickly. It didn’t quite align with her backstory and felt a little rushed.
On the bright side, I absolutely loved Liv! I’m really looking forward to her and Gray’s story—just hoping the plot twists are truly unexpected and don’t end up being as predictable as Jordan being Ryan.
DEVOURED this in a day!!! i need 6 more books about hunter and savannah asap. everything about this book was amazing. yes it was lust at first sight and the grammar isn’t always there but i genuinely couldn’t care less. this is a cute, fun read (with heavier topics that i feel like the author dealt with really well) and i can’t wait to read the next book!!!!
I loved this book so so much, the story is beautifully written, I couldn’t put it down. B L Payne wrote the spicy scenes so well I was on the edge of my seat! Full of the perfect amount of tension, I loved the other characters in the story too, I am so excited for Olivia and Graysons story. I can’t wish to read more of B L Paynes books, she is incredibly talented.
Absolutely loved this book and the story, loved savannahs journey and the love between her and hunter. Loved her best friend Liv and can’t wait for her story
I downloaded this book after watching a TikTok featuring a scene with the MMC and the FMCs daughter which I enjoyed.
Unfortunately the use of “middle school” to describe when the FMC met her best friend and “high school” used for where her parents met really took me out of the story, considering the FMC and her family are meant to be from London. Middle school doesn’t exist there. A silly error that really should have been picked up on by someone or simply googled when writing. Doesn’t really bode well for the rest of the book.
