Jarl Versavel (1991) is an author from Bruges (Belgium). For as long as he can remember, he has had a book in his hands whenever he could, preferably fantasy. After devouring numerous volumes, the next logical step (to him, at least) was writing his own.

Aside from reading and writing, he loves discovering stories in any medium, such as games or films. Other passions include travelling and Dungeons & Dragons. He is also the proud father of three children and is happily married to his beloved wife, Conny. Professionally, he is an English and Dutch teacher in a secondary school.

His debut, The Lady's Gift, was the winner in the Fantasy & Science-Fiction category of Boekgoud 2023 and has since been translated to Dutch.

Just another fantasy book? Not quite. Yes, there are elfs, dwarfs, humans, gnomes, orks. Yes, there is an obvious good vs evil. But The Chosen Saga gives you so more than that.

Jarl Versavel built characters you'll love. Each and every one of them has a strong base which Jarl managed to flesh out throughout the series.
Characters stay true to theirselves, while growing in what they'll need to be to face the evil Grôth and his army. You never have to sigh because someone does something that's completely out of character.
The interactions between the different people are what makes this trilogy standing out for me. The fantasy is great, don't get me wrong, but Jarl Versavel manages to make it so ... human.

I read the books in Dutch. Jarl Versavels way of writing is incredibly understandle and rich. You can read one of these books in a day, without a doubt.

I recommend this to everyone. If you're a veteran in the fantasy genre, or if you're new to the big black hole that is fantasybooks: you'll really enjoy it.

I have read the sage of the Chosen in one reading - started late Sunday afternoon and finished the trilogie Tuesday morning around 2:45. I read the 3 books in one run.

I really enjoyed this fantastic adventure written by Jarl Versavel. You could feel it was meant as one story separated over 3 volumes.

I am not going to write too much on the content because the last version of the Dutch book need to emerge and I would not want to give too many spoilers.

For anybody that loves fantasy and a lot of action, this is a must read. It is not necessarily high fantasy, but it is not low fantasy either. It is just a very good fantasy adventure.

Time for some politics and war! And luckily the sauce of humor is as ever present.
Personally maybe a battle too much that created some repetition and there are no huge surprises or plot twists, yet all the rest really is great. Also nice that the time after the war has been given enough attention. Even a little tear came near the end with the lone pony (only 2 lines, yet that part got me). Maybe an idea for the author to do something more with animals and feelings :-)
I've enjoyed this saga a lot, and am looking forward to more fun literature from this great writer!
