High Voltage

Risi Parker brings FOMO to a professional level. Her fear-of-missing-out prevents her from committing to the things she values most… Achieving her goals, discovering her career, and having a successful relationship. A free spirit who thrives on spontaneity, she believes in the beauty of living in the moment. She’s seen others consumed by love. So, she fears losing her independence if she commits to forever.

Noah Campbell was Risi's childhood best friend, but a tragic incident after they graduated high school made him cut off all contact. Sparks ignite the moment they’re back in each other’s orbit. Stuck in the past and paralyzed by guilt, he keeps his emotions in check, steers clear of relationships, and is a stickler for following rules. He’s built walls that even his former best friend can’t break through.

Risi pushes Noah to see beyond his fear—and maybe even dance in the rain—as they navigate a relationship that feels both inescapable and terrifying. But while she believes love is worth the risk, she must stay true to herself. Noah can’t shake the belief that their differences will tear them apart, and end with two broken hearts. Can opposites make it for the long haul—or will love flame out?

As desire ignites and passions run high, Risi must prove that love is worth the leap or Noah's fear will keep them from the future they deserve.

For fans of friends-to-lovers romance, opposites-attract tension, and emotionally charged love stories, High Voltage is a heartwarming and sexy journey about learning to embrace love without losing yourself.

Janis has always loved writing contemporary love stories. These are tales about people in their 30s finding connection, navigating career and life changes, and falling head over heels in unexpected ways. Those stories still hold a special place in my heart. But lately, she’s been drawn more and more to characters with a little more mileage. People who’ve lived, loved, lost, and kept going. That’s why she’s shifting her focus to seasoned romance.

Seasoned romance is about characters who are in their 40s, 50s, or beyond. There’s something incredibly compelling about two people who aren’t looking to be rescued, but instead find someone who sees and appreciates them exactly as they are.

The stakes are often quieter but no less meaningful. Instead of love triangles or who’s texting whom, we’re dealing with grown-up issues like aging parents, blended families, second careers, or healing from past relationships. And because these characters have been around the block a time or two, their decisions often carry more weight, and their intimacy feels more grounded. They’re not afraid to ask for what they want, or admit when they’re scared to want it.

She’s still bringing the same slow burns, deep emotion, smart heroines, and stubborn, lovable men. But now, the heat and heart come wrapped in a little more life experience.
These are romances for readers who know that falling in love doesn’t have an age limit and that sometimes the best chapters are the ones we never saw coming.

Risi Parker is officially my favorite Parker sister! This book was a quick read, but full of fun banter, a slow-burn romance, and lots of self-discovery for Risi as she figures out what direction to go with her career and her life! I appreciate how well the author gave life to the unique personalities of the main characters while still keeping the pacing of the story. If you are looking for a short, fun romance, this book is for you! Definitely make sure you read Pipe Dreams first to find out how Maggie and Will fell in luv, tru luv!
