While visiting a small town for a conference, Patrick hooks up with a handsome, confident local named Holt. Between Holt’s generous hospitality and their strong chemistry, in and out of the bedroom, Patrick finds himself struggling to walk away from what should have been a casual encounter.
Never Met a Devil Like You is a 15k trans m/m novella featuring high heat chemistry between a lonely out-of-towner and a hardworking heartthrob. Content notes are available in the front matter.

I picked up this book despite knowing it contained a couple things that aren’t necessarily my favorites in terms of kinky stuff, but Instagram did its job and influenced the heck outta me, lol. Thankfully, pretty much all of it was hot and worked for me, and the reason why is probably the insane, palpable chemistry between these two characters. Sex scenes rarely even hit this hard in a full-length romance novel, so the fact that the author managed to create such a believable connection in a short amount of time is amazing. “How am I supposed to just let you leave tomorrow?” His words taste like fermented wheat and promises; like home cooking and fresh sheets stretched tight over a bed too big for one person.
Beyond it being — obviously — really fking hot, it was also surprisingly emotional. I cried a couple times, and the writing was just really good. A couple of the scenes were super beautiful. Hats off for making me really love erotica. Nothing against it obviously, just usually not something I read a lot of. I will definitely be reading more Magnus Thorne, tho.

“A few things you should know about me,” Holt says calmly, smoothing his thumbs across Patrick’s knuckles. “I like being in charge. Like it a little rough, too.” He leans in closer, breath tickling Patrick’s nose. “And I’d prefer you call me ’sir’.”
Patrick rolls over instantly, pressing kiss after kiss to Holt’s stocky torso, his lips brushing the faded scars through his chest hair.
⭐️ 4/5 — Sweet, spicy, and tender, but the single third person POV kept me at arm's length. 🌶 4.5/5 — Red-hot heat, steady rhythm, and toe-curling scenes... minus that one damn kink miss.
This book delivered exactly what I hoped for in a trans MM novella: hot chemistry, soft intimacy, and a surprisingly tender connection over a few days together. Holt and Patrick's time together felt natural and warm, like something that could turn into more. And the sex? Yeah, it slapped. They went there, and it was filthy in the best way. 🥵
Buuut… there was one kink element that didn’t work for me: Holt kept calling Patrick “pig,” and yeah, I’m not into that. I love degradation—call it coarse love, call it filthy talk—but that particular word just isn’t my vibe. It pulled me out of the scene more than once. 🫤
Still, the rest? Satisfying. Magnus Thorne’s writing had a steady pulse, the emotional undercurrent hit just enough, and overall it left me warm and squirmy. Would I read more from this author? Hell yes. 🙂↕️✨️

Like it a little rough, too.” He leans in closer, breath tickling Patrick’s nose. “And I’d prefer you call me ’sir’.” - “You sound so good when you’re begging’, sweetheart. You need me to destroy this slutty little hole of yours?” - “I know you said it was your last night in town, but if you—” “Yes,” Patrick says. Holt laughs. “Wanna just shoot me a text when you’re finished for the day? Rather pick you up, if you don’t mind.” “Yeah. I can do that.” “Alright.” Holt tilts his head. “You gonna kiss me goodbye?” “If that’s okay, yeah.” Holt shakes his head as if amused, dropping one arm from the steering wheel as he leans over and pecks Patrick on the mouth, then lightly pinches his cheek. “See you later, darlin’. Be good.” -

4.5/5. This was such a fun, short read. I love Patrick and Holt. It was fun to see them meet, immediately hit it off, and just keep falling for each other. It went from spicy hook up to super sweet. We obviously didn’t get much story since it was so short and spicy, but I’d read a lot more about these two.

As always, ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings and triggers may be incomplete. Please take care of yourself while reading.
I discovered this 15k word novella through a Trans Rights Readathon recommendation on Instagram. Trying out new authors can be scary, but I was absolutely not disappointed with this beauty by Magnus Thorne and proceeded to add almost the entirety of his backlist to my TBR.
This short novella packs a punch. It's deliciously spicy and high heat, and as Magnus promises you'll "come for the smut and stay for the feelings." The novella is told entirely from Patrick's point of view, and I think it paints the perfect picture of the confident and generous Holt. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I had a great time watching as their relationship grew over the week Patrick was visiting Holt's small town for a work conference. I also enjoyed watching them take care of each other, even during what was supposed to be a casual hookup. Whether it was in the bedroom, eating together, or taking a shower, it was perfect. Although I could've read a multitude of chapters about Patrick and Holt, I think this book is the right length and ends on a contended note. If you're interested in checking out Magnus's work, one of his short stories or novellas is the perfect way to dip your toe in!
what a hot hot read. not my usual like but boy, I enjoyed this short romp. Patrick at a conference meets Holt and hooks up for a night that drags on for the whole week. Holt demands to be addressed as"Sir," and Patrick duly obliges.
Still in a weird place with reading. This didn’t really hold my attention despite it being 64 pages. It was super hot at times but I needed more substance.
“How am I supposed to just let you leave tomorrow?” His words taste like fermented wheat and promises; like home cooking and fresh sheets stretched tight over a bed too big for one person. Instead of speaking at all, Patrick squashes the sound that crawls up his throat and kisses Holt.
As short (and flipping hot) as this story is it's one of those that lingers in your mind, makes you want more of these two men (Oh, I wish). This is a new author for me and I've already browsed his list and marked several as 'want to read' that's how impressed I was with this writing style. A sweet and hot cozy tale of two unlikely men getting together.
This is a hookup to more erotic novella, featuring Patrick and Holt, and is a standalone book.
Thanks to my book buddies for putting this on my radar and twisting my rubber arm to read it. I’m always up for a quick novella read.
This was full of spice and kink play but also some real tenderness and feelings brewing between Patrick and Holt. It was a great little novella.
Things to expect in this book are: Standalone novella MM erotica Single POV Hookup Trans top who prefers Sir Calls him good boy & darlin Mild D/s Spicy times Dirty talk Edging Degradation Water sports O control HEA hint
A short MM erotica novella that was generally hot but had a few things I wasn't into, like watersports. The dirty talk was mostly hot, though again, part of it veered into something I didn't like.
Fast read, trans rep (MC), pretty well written, lots of kinks that are all listed at the beginning of the book.
not my favourite by Thorne but I do love the way they describe bodies and attraction without making it sound cheap. Holt and Patrick have plenty of chemistry together and it captures the experience of meeting someone new and clicking right away and not wanting to spend all your time together from that moment on.
Picked this up as part of this year's Trans Rights Readathon because I'd heard great things & it definitely delivered!
If you're looking for a high heat novella that still gives us some sweet moments, give this a try. Holt & Patrick have a chance encounter at a bar and although Patrick is only in town briefly for a work conference, their one night stand turns into more. Would absolutely love to see more of them in another short one day maybe!
This was hot! One night stand gets multiple encores, and boy is it a good time. The perfect mix of dirty and sweet. Whew! I have to read more from Magnus soon.
