I, Me, and My Shadow Veronica Lake’s passionate retelling of her son Brian’s story, written by Phoebe Harper. Any name changes or timelines, disparities or character resemblance to any living person is a coincidence.
Children born into a broken family can sometime leave them with traumatic memories, which then could develop into serious mental health issues. This is Brian’s story, another victim of the Hillsborough disaster, and all the traumas he went through during his life. But first, we need to understand his parents, to know him. To understand the family dynamics is to understand Brian. We are a product of our environment. This is where it all started for Veronica, his mother.
A must read for any parent that has a child struggling with mental health issues
This is a very moving book about a young man who was dealt a dirty hand. The book chronicles his life and his attempt to reach out for help at the end, and none was there. As a grandmother who has lost a grandson to suicide it is evident young folks are not getting what they need. The system that should’ve helped Brian failed him. As the title says, they could have saved him. An easy read, I highly recommended it.
