Jax Mulaney’s mate is dead and her killer’s trail has gone cold. Eaten up by grief and guilt, it’s an effort just to get through the day. Now, after a year in mourning, his animal instincts have reawakened. As he struggles to control the need clawing at him, his pack mate Chandra’s sexy body and snappy wit put his self-discipline to the test.
Chandra is heartsick watching Jax struggle, and wants nothing more than to comfort him. If she takes his offer of passion without strings, she knows she’s in for a world of hurt. But if she refuses, she might blow her one chance to convince him that she can rock his world and fill the empty space in his heart.
Will Jax let love in, only to risk having it taken away again?
Chloe Cole is the New York Times bestselling author of steamy paranormal romance novels and one half of the happiest couple in the world. She and her handsome hubby currently reside in Pennsylvania with a four-pack of teenage boys and their two dogs, Gimli and Pug. When she isn't acting as maid, chef, chauffeur, or therapist, she can be found reading just about anything she can get her hands on, from Young Adult novels to books on poker theory. She hates bugs (except ladybugs, on account of their cute outfits), but lurrves chocolate. She also loves writing steamy romance stories, but also hopes to one day publish something her dad can read without wanting to poke his eyes out with sharp sticks. If she had to pick another occupation, she would be a pirate. Or, like, a ninja maybe. Oooh, or a Gryffendor!
Jax Mulaney’s mate is dead and the killer is still out there and has Chandra with her sexy body and snappy wit in his sights in this exciting paranormal romance.
Chandra has watched Jax’s struggle to overcome his grief in the wake of his mate’s death but she needs him to fill the empty space in her heart and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the heartfelt emotional turmoil and desires that radiate from Jax and Chandra as they awaken to new possibilities and red hot passion that burns deep. The fast paced and smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense, excitement and passion and spine tingling excitement builds as Chandra grows suspicious of a human female’s actions and gets caught in a deadly trap that could destroy the couple’s happiness before they even realize what they have.
These strong bewitching characters capture the heart and draw readers deeper into the story while the excitement and passions keep readers on their toes and ensures that they can’t put the story down until they have read every last word. That is the way it was for me at least with this quick and entertaining romance and I can’t wait to join the Montana Wolves to see what happens next.
This one continues the story of the Montana wolf packs. We got a little more of the world in this installment. It was lovely seeing Jax moving on with his life. Again, it is very, very short. I would have loved seeing some scenes with the little boy for instance.
Anyway, what there is, is well written and I found myself rooting for both the MCs. Jax does some really TSTL stuff which tends to happen when you start drinking to forget. Chandra's role in his recovery is very sweet.
I read all 4 of these stories in one day and they made for a nice light read.
This is a great second chance story. I loved the way the story was told. That even though you lose a part of yourself and feel lost you can have a chance to gain something new. You don't have to feel guilty of moving on.
Jax is trying to get over the loss of his mate Sara whom he lost a few months prior to a man who lost his marbles. Chandra hanged clans and is now a part of Pray, will she be able to help him with his misery or will she have to suffer along with him? Really good book.
Chandra was head over heels in love with Jax pretty much at that first meeting – the night she left her former pack and asked to join Liam’s. Jax was still reeling from the death of his mate Sara who had been brutally killed by a hunter or worse. Chandra had accepted that they would be pack mates, friends even though she wished for more one day when his heart had healed. At least she told herself that to get through the knowledge that his heart had seemingly died with Sara. Oh he was devoted to their son Ryan but that’s a father thing and a constant reminder of the woman he’d loved.
She was okay with it, really. Until tonight. When Jax had once again gone out gotten himself drunk and this time brought back a human bombshell for a night in the sack. She simply could not take the sounds coming from his room down the hall. So without thought she confronted him. And in that moment things began to change for them.
It had been a year since Sara’s death and Jax needed the release of a woman. He knew it was both stupid and forbidden to bring Amber back to the compound but he was too drunk to really think too deeply about that. When Chan confronted him it was probably the sexiest thing he’d ever seen her do. Granted, he was drunk and hadn’t noticed much lately but.. damn. Slowly an idea formed in his addled brain… he didn’t want a mate, no one could replace Sara – but a friend with benefits. Yeah. That would work nicely.
There was something off about Amber. Chandra couldn’t put a finger on it but something was wrong. Especially when she could smell her cloying perfume hours after she’d left… or had she? There was going to be a heap of trouble if that human had snooped around where she shouldn’t have and Jax would face the blame for it. So Chandra had some investigating to do. Never realizing the trouble it was going to put her into instead.
Jax and Chandra make a sexy, hot couple in Awakening. And their story is aptly named as Jax is awakening from the grief that he’s held onto and beginning to see that there is life after a mate’s death. As well as the chance to avenge Sara’s death, Jax also has the chance to move them forward as a couple in their own right with a future yet to be claimed but enjoyed together.
This series has been out for a couple years, but it’s one that is well worth searching for or even revisiting. If you love Shifter Romance, then the Montana Wolves will provide some very good, sexy and entertaining stories to catch up on.
This book picked up after the first book and another great read! Chandra finds herself falling for Jax is still getting over his mate's death but is starting to feel things again. Can they have a friends with benefits relationship? Will it turn into more? Again a strong story with great characters.
Kindle Unlimited book. We met them in book 1. He lost his mate in a tragic hunting and he left her pack to join his. It's a year later and they have became friends. Can they overcome the bad that has happened and have a future together?
Novella that I enjoyed but I hoped for more shown of Chandra and Jax’s attraction before consummating their “friends with benefits” relationship. Still good to see series continue and I’d read the next one.
Jax & Chandras story is great, sexy and dangerous. Once again Ms Cole gets right to the point without a bunch of nonsense. Great storyline, hot characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series
Book two started off at a good pace and kept going. Book two picks up a little over a year after book one. We meet Jax ( he lost his mate) and Chandra. The love affair is subtle but sweet. Can't wait for book three.
In book 2 we see Jax and Cheandra trying to find their way to each other. Will the bad guy win or love? Another really nice story from Chloe! And i can say it gets better and better. Can't wait to see what waits ahead!
Book 2 in the Montana Wolves series. This book revolves around Jax and Chandra. We see that there is a second chance at love if we let it. Great storyline with action and romance. Can't wait for more.
I loved this book. It had a really strong storyline which was written perfectly. I loved the characters, Jax and Chandra. They were such a great couple and had such great chemistry, although started out a bit unconventional it soon worked out. Looking forward to book 3!
Nicely done wolf shifter story. This is the second book in the series, but stands fine as a read alone. Plenty of action, a seriously sick bad guy, and some spice. Adult read
