Every so often a business book comes along that feels like a revelation—one so expertly crafted it takes your breath away. It’s clear, straightforward, and brimming with intelligence, yet its brilliance lies in its practical, actionable guidance. This is not just a book for business success; it’s a guide to life mastery, offering insights that transcend the professional world and empower personal growth as well.

What also sets “CEO Potential: Transcend Self, Team, and Organization for Lasting Success in the New Age of AI” by Dave Osh apart is its completeness. You won’t need to sift through other books, enroll in courses, or spend endless hours journaling and *hope* you’ve uncovered the right answers. It eliminates the guesswork by clearly identifying what needs to change and directing you step by step on how to do it. You’re not left to navigate vague concepts on your own; the roadmap is here, meticulously laid out; nothing is overlooked.

While you may find yourself wishing for a sequel or more from the author, you won’t need one. This book delivers everything—insight, framework, and direction—in one cohesive, self-contained volume. It’s all here, waiting to transform how you approach not only your work but your life.

This—”CEO Potential”—is that book.

I know this is a big promise. Yet as an educator, and a voracious lifetime consumer of self-development books, I was astonished at what I discovered in this volume.

The author’s background here is worthy of note. Mr. Osh is a CEO and consultant, with numerous business books to his credit. Yet, he’s been instrumental in many different domains and has accumulated a wealth of experience. These include the military and service as a fighter pilot. Then, when he moved into business, ascending the many levels himself to become a COO, his next level of development started. He was appointed to be CEO of the same company, figuring he could do the job with two hands tied behind his back. Right?

He says he was incredibly wrong, as he outlines his failure. It’s an incredibly vulnerable section for a leader. Thus started his desire to figure it all out, via hard experience, especially the many studies he cites and uses as the basis of the method he’s hammered out and presents in his book. One that he promises is utterly transformative, citing his own story, and that of others.

Building on this foundation, the content of the book unfolds with precision and purpose.

In the first two chapters, the author masterfully sets the stage, showing us not only what’s possible but also what’s in it for us—a gifted teacher igniting curiosity and motivation. Then, in chapter three, the real transformation begins as he introduces the concept of seven distinct levels of potential, each with unique strengths, challenges, and growth opportunities. We’re guided to recognize three key tiers of personal potential: our Center of Gravity Potential (where we predominantly operate), our Fallback Potential (a fallback zone we slip into), and our Growth Edge Potential (the next frontier we’re beginning to explore). As Mr. Osh explains:

Identifying your Center of Gravity is essential as it pinpoints where your predominant behaviors, thoughts, and feelings tend to stabilize. By understanding this, you can better focus on your Growth Edge, which will steer your development efforts. This approach aids in broadening your capabilities and gradually elevating your default Potential to a higher level over time.

This insight redefines transformation—not just as action but as a deep shift in behaviors, thoughts, and emotions—a major part of the 90% that lies below the tip of the iceberg. This isn’t a typical leadership manual; it’s a deeply intelligent guide.

“CEO Potential” then leads us through a powerful self-assessment to uncover our current potential level with thought-provoking questions like: How do you respond when others step out of line? How do I respond when others make mistakes? These questions don’t just spark reflection—they open the door to transformation.

Each level of potential is then explored in its own dedicated chapter, opening with a compelling story about an individual from the fictional company Mr. Osh weaves throughout the book. These stories ground the concepts in relatable, real-world scenarios, making the insights both engaging and actionable. The point is made that there are strengths in each level that we hope to integrate as we move to the next level, and moving to the next level IS the focus of each chapter.

Each chapter also features recurring sections such as strengths, rules, identity, pair beliefs with interdependent beliefs, self-worth, and more, with bulleted points for clarity. Importantly, the ascent to the next level is clearly mapped out, ensuring readers have the tools they need to make meaningful progress, starting at “Decide on Your Own Big Shift.” And the final level is top-tier.

This is more than a book; it’s a revelation. Eye-opening. Deep, and transformative.

Finally, the book turns its focus to group potential and culture in the last section, offering clear, detailed, and insightful chapters. These final chapters lay a solid foundation and guide readers step by step on how to actively create transformation within collective potential, level by level, there, too.

Mountains depositing their bulk strongly and steadfastly in front of us? We all have them, in business and in life.

Scalable? Yes. One step at a time…if we take honest stock of where we are, and then do the work—starting with the one big shift.

At my ‘scaled down’ rating of ten out of five stars, “CEO Potential” is the business and life development book you need. I’m grateful to Dave Osh for providing it.

Dave Osh has written a comprehensive and resourceful guide for anyone looking to grow their leadership skills.

While geared towards CEOs, anyone who wants to grow their influence and performance within a corporate organization will find value in reading this book.

Based on a lot of research and pulling countless stories from Dave’s own personal experience as a leader of large-scale transformation programs, CEO Potential focuses is on just that: The Potential (with a capital “P”) that any individual has to grow and develop into a transformational leader.

Whether you are a CEO and are wondering how to grow, or perhaps you are an executive or manager trying to get to that next level of leadership, this book will guide you in assessing where you are today and how to get to where you have the Potential to get to.

CEO Potential by Dave Osh is a great book. The idea that the role of the CEO is changing because of AI is super interesting. Osh suggests that CEOs now have to do more than just manage, they need to be visionaries and innovators who drive transformation. I think that’s a pretty important point because businesses have to keep up with rapid changes, and a strong leader can make all the difference. It offers solid advice on how to lead successfully while also focusing on the people and growth that make a company thrive.

It is like living in another world

The world of CEO's seems like something out of the movies, what a great approach this book gives us! The book has too many aspects that stand out, but I think what I stayed with almost all the reading is the ability of a CEO to be so interdisciplinary and where does that come from? Precisely, from the keys that the author mentions, someone who experiences it firsthand is very clear about why these figures get to where they do. Highly recommended.

I really liked the view the author has on these things, the fact that adaptability is a key aspect in this book resonated with me a lot, and I think it will with others. If you are already a business owner and are the CEO of your own company, this would be a great book to develop yourself or improve team management. A group-centric mindset is excellent if you want to please people, but it's not as constructive and efficient as an expansive or integral transformer. The author wrote in a very relatable tone that helps me understand the book better.
