They’ve spent a lifetime in each other’s orbits. But one little secret will either break them for good or bind them forever.
Dr. Shyanne Bennett has an almost perfect her own home, half a family practice, and a fat orange cat. Her dating life sucks, but what else did she expect from the tiny pond of Cedar Creek, Kentucky? She has her two Gen Z cousins running her dating apps…for better or worse.
Dean Akers was supposed to be a world champion by now. Not sacrificing his body for a blood-thirsty audience in community center gyms in small, rural towns. He’s tired and jaded and ready to quit. But if he quits, what was it all for?
As high school sweethearts, they were voted cutest couple by their senior class. They were supposed to last. But when they were eighteen, Dean chose wrestling and Shyanne chose medicine, even though neither of them have ever been able to truly let go.
Dean thinks she’s stubborn and obstinate.
Shyanne thinks he’s flaky and unreliable.
There are decades of hurt and history between them…but one thing may be strong enough to bridge the gap.
A baby.
Main Event is the second novella in the Bluegrass Performance Center series. They are short and spicy and intended to be enjoyed in a single sitting…a little afternoon delight, if you will.
“Main Event” is the short of the complicated relationship between Shyanne and Dean.
Shyanne cannot deny her attraction to Dean and they have been on and off for years, she’s addicted to him but she’s aware their lifestyle does not match. Dean lives for wrestling. He has dedicated his life to his job just like Shyanne, but even though they chose to drift apart, the universe keeps pushing Dean towards Shyanne’s world, and this time, everything is different. Shyanne is pregnant with Dean’s child, and Dean’s passion for wrestling is no longer there. Shyanne is the only constant good thing in his life. Her presence that makes him calm, her body that he knows how to worship.
He’s ready to start a new path in his life with Shyanne by his side. But all the hurt from those years is hard to erase, and Shyanne’s heart is too fragile to be broken. She needs Dean, she needs his touch, his body, his presence, he makes her feel alive just like Dean needs her. He needs her to soothe him, to hold him and put up with his antics.
Their urgency for each other with all their baggage from years of passion and failures makes “Main Event” a short but powerful read.
Shyanne and Dean were the cutest high school sweethearts you could ever meet. After high school Shyanne went onto study medicine and now owns half of her family practice. While she did that Dean chose to continue wrestling. They ended things, but now years later, they are reacquainted.
They try to rekindle their old romance with how their lives are now. Only we will see how it turns out.
A fairly short novella from J.L. Minyard about a small town doctor, Shyanne and her high school love, Dean, a somewhat semiprofessional wrestler. The story was cute. I loved the interactions between Shy and her cousins. I enjoyed the storyline between Shy and Dean. I loved the ending and epilogue.
