What devious plans does Caroline Bingley have up her sleeve? As tensions rise, will Mr. Bennet, Mr. Gardiner, and Lord Matlock intervene to steer events toward a favorable outcome? And can the mischievous antics of four furry friends—Jasper, Bacon, Sir Whiskers, and Miss Poppy—create enough mayhem to bring about happily ever afters for our beloved characters? Discover what happens when three determined patriarchs, one insightful matriarch, two supportive cousins, a shy younger sister, and four endearing pets join forces—intentionally or not—to transform Darcy into a gentleman of true worth. ‘Determined Interference’ celebrates the idea that love can flourish even amid chaos and that, sometimes, interference leads to the most cherished outcomes. Join us in this enchanting story where family, friends, and a quartet of playful animals help shape the futures of Jane and Elizabeth in the most delightful ways.
In this version Mr Bennett is a responsible father who pays attention to what his daughters are doing. Uncle Gardiner owns Netherfield, and leases it to Bingley because he thinks he may be a good match for Jane (talk about manipulative!!). Darcy delivers his infamous insult at the Meryton assembly, so Elizabeth has no great opinion of him. Unbeknownst to Darcy, Bennett is a good friend of Lord Matlock, was friends with Darcy's father when he was alive, and he, Jane, and Elizabeth all are close to the entire Fitzwilliam family. Bennett reports Darcy's poor behavior to Lord Matlock, and Colonel Fitzwilliam arrives to take Darcy to task, and improve his behavior. Caroline Bingley becomes a problem, so Gardiner wants to get the Bingley family out of Netherfield.
This is a low angst story wherein the main characters just seem to fall in with everyone else's wishes. As soon as Darcy learns that Elizabeth knows the Fitzwilliams, he's immediately ready to pursue her. As soon as Darcy apologizes, Elizabeth is immediately smitten. There are no villains, just mildly annoying people. The book is written in a simplistic style with no surprises, no drama. There's romance, but it's almost too easy. This makes for a rather bland story with very little to add spice.
The book is written well enough, but this is definitely not great literature. I recommend it for a light and engaging tale with some cute, but obnoxious, pets. The cover is superb. What a beautiful scene, and a beautiful man!
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
This story started well, but the storyline with the Bingley’s just fizzles out and is never addressed again. The rest has a lot of page time for ODC but was maybe a tad boring. No real angst or anything to drive the story forward. I really like this author so this was a bit of a let down. However, it’s worth reading and for those who don’t like angst, this is for you.
I found this cheesy. Very cheesy. Both the story and the writing. And a little overly dramatic in style given that not much happens. Except for the dogs - which were given a lot of page time. I did a lot of skimming with this one.
