This continues to be one of the best fairy tale-based series I've read. The bittersweet ending to the Sleeping Beauty section shows that Aoyagi understands both the tale type and the way our view of it has evolved, but it's really the Little Match Girl storyline that makes this. The vicious nature of the series' version of Andersen's character absolutely has something to say about the original, and the way it works with Little Red Riding Hood's own story is a reminder that Perrault's version made it clear that "wolves" aren't canine at all, but human.
