Meadowview Heat #1

Forever the One

Rate this book
Years ago, Sadie Courant had been the frizzy-haired twerp next door. Now she’s drop-dead gorgeous and has, well...uh...breasts. It’s no wonder Broadway director Ethan Sawyer doesn’t recognize his best friend’s little sister when he sees her again.

Sadie has been in love with Ethan since she was in braces. So when he fails to recognize her at the bachelor auction she’s organized, she flips. Sure, she looks a little different now, what with the boobs and a little help from a flat iron, but really?

Deciding she needs to get the man out of her system, Sadie negotiates a way for Ethan to make up for his mistake: a one-night stand. She figures after they do the deed, he’ll head back to New York and she’ll finally be able to let go. But when Ethan has to move back to the small town of Meadowview and work side-by-side with Sadie, she realizes she couldn’t be more wrong about the letting go part of her plan. Because Ethan has and always will be…forever the one.

Sadie has had a massive crush on her childhood friend, Ethan, for a decade. She has kept this piece of info secret from everyone. Including Ethan. When Ethan rolls back into town, this is Sadie's chance to knock his socks off and make him realize what he's been missing all of these years. Not everything goes according to plan. Sadie didn't fathom that Ethan wouldn't recognize her. Ethan was just in town for a few days and he didn't expect to be falling head over heels for a blonde stranger. What he most certainly didn't see coming was that the blonde stranger would turn out to be Sadie.

I've not had the opportunity to read anything by this author before. Forever the One turned out to be pretty good. It's the perfect book to take with you to the pool or beach this summer. It's easy to read and it's a sweet story.

That being said, I did find it a bit ... simple. There's nothing wrong with that, it makes for an easy read but I wish that the characters had a bit more to them. I would have loved to know more about each of them. The characters didn't feel fully fleshed out to me. Yes, I had the opportunity to know each of them but I didn't feel like I KNEW them. If that makes any sense. I just wanted a little more from them. The characters weren't all that bad ... I really liked them, actually. But I was left wanting more. You know, this could be a completely strategic thing ... getting you hooked on a series and then you learn more about them as the series progresses. But that's nothing that I enjoy, personally. I would rather know the characters inside and out in the first book so that it will urge me to read the remainder of the series. Anyway.

The story itself was also okay. I didn't find it boring or anything ... just again ... it lacked a bit of depth that I expected when picking this novel up. Most of the situations just seemed to brush the surface and not really delve into anything. There were so many background stories that I wish I was able to learn about because they were intriguing but those seem to be kept under lock and key in the Author Vault ... wherever that is ... I just know that they keep all of the alternate endings for novels and background info on characters along with lists of books with good ideas but horrible executions so that other authors can pick through and make better versions of things ... I'm pretty sure George R. R. Martin has his own wing and shit. Sometimes the only thing keeping me reading a book is the thought of an Author Vault out there ... somewhere ... and some day I might be able to find out more info on books that I almost really liked/loved/hated. Well. That was a nice little detour away from where I wanted to go with this.

So ... pretty okay book. I wouldn't mind reading something else by this author to see if the writing is the same. If her other stuff is a bit deeper, I might have found a new author for my "Must Read Everything By This Person" list.

Can a book be to wordy? Well if it could this book would be one. The story drug so much!! Instead of the story flowing it was drug down and buried with all the fluff. Yea let's call it fluff aka Shi* that absolutely didn't increase/pertain to creating a good story. Descriptions in books are great if done correctly, however in this book it wasn't. It seemed to me as filler to make a somewhat boring as* book longer. I skipped so many paragraphs just to finish. The concept was girl loves brothers best friend, been there down that and so much better than this book. Sex scenes G rated, very quick wrap up of book (possibly best thing, just end this wreckage already!) I don't recommend nor will I read next in this series.

3.5 Stars. This book is exactly what it claims to be, nothing more, nothing less. Sadie has had a crush on her brother’s best friend since she was eleven, and despite the fact that she hasn’t seen him in person for about thirteen years, no one has ever compared to him in her mind. They’ve spent the long years talking over the phone, emailing and texting, so when Sadie needs help for a fundraiser Ethan agrees to come home. But instead of the cute kid in braces he knew all those years ago Sadie is now beautiful and hot, and clearly things are about to change between them.

From there it’s all pretty obvious, minus the timeline of just how everything finally comes together. There is a one night stand, there is guilt, there are plenty of past issues raising their ugly heads and a surprisingly good working relationship. It’s all fairly standard and predictable, but I nevertheless enjoyed it. I have to admit that since both Sadie and Ethan are so firmly wrapped up in the theatre it’s strange that there’s not one play in the whole book. I would have liked to have actually seen something come out of all the projects they work so hard for – especially as there are plenty of time jumps in this book. However, since this is the first in this series maybe more does come out of it in future books.

In this one, however, Ethan wanders around wallowing in guilt and bad memories, while Sadie stresses about how she’s going to fail and never be as good as her mother. With an added bit of friend time from Sadie’s two best girlfriends, who happen to be the little sisters of her brother’s best mates. I have to admit I found that coincidence just too convenient (and if all the sisters hook up with the brothers then it’s just… urgh), along with the lack of interest in running this apparently famous festival which leaves Ethan as the only viable choice. Hmm…

The characters themselves are okay. Sadie is beautiful and good at what she does, but has extremely low self-esteem and sees herself as pathetically ordinary. Although there are hints of this throughout the book, it’s not really until the end that this becomes a big thing. Unlike Ethan, whose issues loom large throughout. To be honest it would have been nice to have known a bit more about both of them away from their issues and their current working relationship, because there’s a lot of empty space around their lives.

In all this is a quick and easy read, perfect for if you don’t want to think too hard or have holiday time to spare. It won’t change the world, but it is fun enough to make it seem a bit brighter for a few hours. It certainly left me curious enough to investigate the rest of the series.

Author Rochelle French is a new to me author and one that I will be reading more of! I loved this book - it had all of the qualities that make a book amazing. There was drama, angst, love, friendships, anger and happy endings. I enjoyed reading about Sadie and how she is always striving for the approval and love from her parents that her brother gets. She is also hoping to finally put to rest her long-time crush on Ethan. But of course, it all goes wrong and it all goes wrong quickly.

Author Rochelle French was able to have the readers make an instant connection to the characters, the situations and the feelings that the characters shared. She had the reader believing that they were a part of the small town life and that they were all friends in the same circles. I loved learning about the film festival, the way in which the characters were able to integrate themselves into each other's lives and were able to make the reader feel like they were right there with them. The author describes the town, setting, and the theater in such detail that the reader is transported to them as they read the story.

The plot is fast moving and smooth, and the reader feels like they are on a quick moving ride through the story. The author easily makes the reader feel like they are a part of the story and that story is unpredictable at times. The author throws in just the right amount of loops and twists to make the reader wonder, but at the same time it is still a believable story. This is a journey that any reader who appreciates a good romance novel will enjoy this one! It is truly an amazing read. Make sure you add this one to your TBR list soon, you don't want to miss out! Enjoy ~

Sweet, easy to read, standalone, small town romance mixed with an older brother’s best friend theme.

This was the first book I ever read by Rochelle French and despite it having been a while since I first read it, it’s still one of my favourites, especially in the older brother’s best friend/ best friend’s younger sister theme. Overall, this was an enjoyably sweet, easy to read, standalone, small town romance with enough tension and drama to keep you interested and turning the pages with a HEA and epilogue that ties up the story nicely.

The two main characters, Sadie and Ethan, while having been apart in person for many years after their childhoods, have remained in touch via email, phone etc. which allowed the foundation to be set up for the relationship that eventually develops between Ethan and Sadie. The dual points of views helped develop the characters and I loved how both had stubborn attitudes and personalities in regards to a relationship, especially Ethan’s views on a relationship; both clearly knew their own minds and tried to do the right thing but couldn’t deny the chemistry and growing attraction between them now as adults. It was intriguing how the chemistry was built up between the duo presently while working together and how they had to deal with their changing feelings.

Forever the One was relatively well written with a good flow and was paced steadily but never dragged out. There was a clear solid plot and a few surprising twists and turns that unravelled as the book went on in regards to both characters and issues previously that have shaped who they are today. Even though it is part of a series, it can truly be read as a standalone as all things regarding Ethan and Sadie are concluded in this book.

Definitely do not hesitate to give this book a read if you are a small town romance fan or a romance fan in general!

Sadie has always had a crush on Ethan, her best friend's older brother. Sadie's brother is also his best friend. She told no one of this crush and has kept in contact with him over the last 13 years while he was away making a name for himself in theater and directing. She has convinced him to return to their hometown for a charity auction. Ethan and Sadie shave not seen each other and Sadie has grown up from the adolescent he remembers. Ethan does not have relationships because of something in hos past and Sadie convinces him a one night stand is fine with her.

Ethan and Sadie both have feelings for each other, but Ethan has built a wall around his heart because of his traumatic past. He sees no way around it, even when he longs for Sadie. Sadie feels looked down upon by her family and does not have much confidence in herself. She also knows that pressuring Ethan is the wrong way to approach him. Reading the rest of the stories now with this group of friends and family.

It's no secret that when Ethan and Sadie are together they act like children, "bite me." His jaw hardened. That was it. He'd flown in from New York to be in her stupid fundraiser, humiliated himself on-stage, walked a half mile in the middle of the night, and she was telling him to eff off?" Ethan I think has an obsession with Sadie's a** especially that little tattoo she has there, "saw it? I think I bit it last night. Twice, if I recall." His girl is seriously insatiable so he has to be the grown up and tell her what's what, "Sadie, you need to get your hands out of my pants when I'm trying to be serious." These two had great chemistry and were always comfortable with each other, "ungrateful beast." Sadie's lips pressed together and she faked a swat on his rear." I honestly enjoyed this book.

This book was a Kindle freebie when I picked it up. It was okay. It has a few weird things going on with it. One you are reading along and then BAM it jumps ahead! Not sure if the author meant to do that or if it was an error. It read like an error, like a few chapters were misplaced. After reading these future chapters all of a sudden it jumps back. No indication that the character are thinking back, just all of a sudden you are. There were also some spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. I liked the basic storyline idea, I just think it could have been executed better. The sex scenes aren't even that steamy. I would not recommend this book to a friend, nor do I plan on reading further books in this series.

I really liked the plot of this book and I liked the characters. I wish the hero didn't take so long to get his head out of his ass but she made it work. I can't wait to read about the other friends and sisters. I loved how different this book was it was nice to read something new.

This book has two different titles which makes no sense. When I open it up on Kobo books it’s called ‘Win Me’. Same story just different title. Sadie Courant runs a theatre festival out of her small town and she took it over from her parents. They don’t expect much from her since in their eyes she will never amount to anything anyway. Her brother Theo believes in her along with his friends Ethan Sawyer and Jack and hers Chessie and Lia. When the director of the festival decides to leave Sadie is left in the lurch in finding someone to take the job. She decides to call on Ethan since he’s into the theater considering he has Tony’s and as of now is an up and coming director of Broadway shows. The thing is she has had a thing for Ethan since she was 12 and after sleeping with him a while ago she was hoping he wouldn’t turn it down because of that. Ethan on the other hand is looking for a way to come back home so he can keep an eye out on his baby sister, Lia. Ever since her marriage blew up he feels responsible for her. Ethan takes the job but he makes sure that Sadie understands that there will be no more hanky panky in the bedroom or anywhere else. As time goes on and the festival goes on without a hitch and sales go up things between the two of them heats up as well. Then one day Ethan explains to Sadie why he can never commit to a relationship and everything comes to a head when they sleep together again. In the end we get a HEA but it’s the story of Ethan and Sadie that makes you wan to Love Forever.

Not having read any of Rochelles books before, I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the whole concept of brothers best friend childhood crush developing to adulthood love. It’s a easy reader, not a lot of vulgar language that some books have although I usually like my love scenes to be more descriptive ( that’s just my opinion) A sweet love story. Tvm.

I enjoyed the characters in this book, both primary and secondary. Ethan and Sadie were both likeable and had known each other for a long time. I would have liked to see more depth to there story and personalities however. The conflict here was pretty much self inflicted and therefore solved in a couple of pages. It was also much shorter than I prefer, possibly why it lacked depth.

Forever the One is your typical little cutesy, love story. Girl crushes on guy, guy doesn’t return those feelings. Girl grows up and still crushes on guy, guy doesn’t recognize the girl. Guy finally recognizes girl and gives her one passionate night and girl fights to keep guy. It’s the same story line that we have all heard or read about one time or another with nothing really spectacular to make it stand out.

With the amount of books that I happily devour daily, it typically takes something really special and often times different to make me sit up and really take notice. I don’t mind reading “tired” or “played out” themes, as long as the author is able to make it their own, write it well and give the book a personality worth getting to know. Unfortunately, this one fell flat on two of the categories. The book is well written, it just didn’t stand out or give me anything I haven’t already heard before.

Now, to be fair, I need to stress my earlier point…I read a lot…like, a lot, a lot. Normally around 2 novels a day. Now, that could be considered light reading to some, but if that is the case, then you definitely know what I am talking about when I say that something has to be really good to stand out in the crowd, because anything less than almost perfection quickly becomes forgettable. So, often times there are books that are pretty good, maybe even really good that I have read, but they will still only get a 2-3 star rating from me, because it’s the great and fantastic books that I read, the ones that really stand out, that I give my 4 and 5 stars to. So, with all that being said, this is a good book…meaning, there wasn’t anything that I hated about it and I did not cause anyone or anything physical damage while reading the book. I’m sure that a majority of you would find it an ok/good book and I was entertained while I was reading it, but when I was done with it, I was on to the next book without a thought or lingering feeling about it, it just didn’t stand out.

Overall, no, this is not a book that I would recommend. Those looking for a quick, cutesy love story will likely enjoy this book, but those looking for something a bit more profound, or those who really like their reads to be more memorable (like I do), this one is not going to be for you.

Happy reading, until next time…

Unsatisfying

I find the opening premise of this book to bed totally unbelievable. The hero has been gone from town for 12 years, and doesn't recognize the heroine when he sees her. Could be possible, until you know the whole backstory. Not only has he been back to visit his sister, who is the heroine's best friend, he's best friends with the heroine's brother, AND he and the heroine are still in touch and friendly via phone and email. In this digital age of Facebook, selfies, and cell phone cameras, it doesn't make any sense that he wouldn't have seen photos, at least, of the heroine over the years. Even if it were possible, the heroines reaction was too over-the-top for someone who was supposed to be such good friends. The whole situation seemed contrived, as did the angst and drama of the rest of the book. It didn't fit the friends-to-lovers trope. Lastly, most of what happened in the story, whether present day or from the past, was narrated rather than experienced by the reader.

Sadie had a crush on her brother’s best friend Ethan. Sadie hasn’t seen him in a long time but they stayed in touch. Ethan was successfully making his way in the world but he agreed to come home and help Sadie with a charity event. Ethan doesn’t recognize Sadie at first. But when he does there is an attraction going on. But Ethan has a wall around his heart. Sadie doesn’t really have any self esteem, but agrees to a one night with Ethan.
The story does jump back and forth a little but i still enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the plot of the story. As far as characters, I liked the ups and downs Sadie and Ethan go through. I recommend.

I loved this book, it reached in and grabbed me by the heart. I found myself laughing and teary, sometimes in the same moment. I have a feeling this author could seriously strain my bank account. I read a lot of books, very fast, and so, normally hold out for the free ones, but I already bought and read the second in this series. Oh well, good book.
Now for the rest, I am a trained proofreader and an experienced copy-editor and so, even when I'm reading for enjoyment, little mistakes jump out at me. This book had a few, nothing major, but it upsets me that with a little tweaking it could be ever better.

All around good fun

This book was very enjoyable and sweet. I liked the characters and story. I would recommend this to anyone and I am looking forward to reading more in the series :)

Judging a book... covered matched the story. I knew what I was getting when I saw the cover and the story delivered. I will say the cover is not very original, but it served it purpose. The cover gets 3.5/5

Spoilers:
I did not like how fast Ethan came to his conclusion on his feelings for Sadie. It was very sweet the way he did it, but with all the reason he didn't want to be in a relationship and for it to be changed in one night seemed to far fetched for me.

Sadie Courant had a crush on Ethan Sawyer since he moved to Meadowview when he with thirteen and became her brother's best friend. Now he is coming home to help her with a fund raiser and everything is going wrong for her. Her plane is late, the convertible she rented has a top that will not go up when it starts to rain causing her ultra curly hair to super frizz. She gets to the benefit late and Ethan does not recognize her after all these years.

This sets the story plot for a funny and entertaining romance between friends that move on to become Forever the One WOW!
