NEVER GIVE UP“Why is this happening to me?” Maybe that’s a question you’ve asked yourself. If you have, you are not alone.I’ve faced many battles in my life. I have survived eight heart operations, four of which were open-heart surgeries. I have nearly died on the operating table three times, and I was repeatedly told I would never physically excel...and yet, after much blood, sweat, tears, and prayer, I fulfilled an unimaginable childhood dream! The fact that I’m still alive and well and have achieved what I was told would be impossible is a journey I believe needs to be shared. My story is one of faith, healing, and above all, hope.

Danny Covey lives in Embrun, Ontario, Canada, with his fantabulous wife, Carly, and their three children – Grant, Layla, and Carter. Danny is a creative renaissance man who fills his time as a graphic designer, illustrator, marketer, art instructor, and amateur video producer.

“I don’t necessarily enjoy being the center of interest, but I love creating the center of interest."

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is a great demonstration of difficult life circumstances dealt with a positive attitude, empathy, optimistic outlook and good sense of humor. The book includes a bit of everything; many wholesome (and heavier) moments, fun facts, interesting quotes and references, parenting advice and life advice. It also offers good balance between storytelling and self-reflection.

This book has been written through a very interesting religious (Christian) perspective, which has provided me with novel insights about my own faith and beliefs. I have also appreciated the more technical descriptions of the author's surgeries and health situations, and how he reconciles science and religion in his own life. Overall, I highly recommend this book.

*On a side note, smiling does improve your running performance, all you need is a bit of faith 😉

His Original Book Reflects His Heart

I have known Danny for a few years. We met for coffee, and that is where he revealed his life challenges. His book goes much more in detail than a few hours of listening over a coffee. Danny is genuine, friendly, humorous, gentle, and honest. His book reflects his heart. It answers the fundamental question of facing life challenges: "Why?" For Danny, it was for God's works to manifest through him.

After reading his original book, he mentioned that a chapter was not included due to the publisher's limited requirements. I am happy to share with you that he did find a publisher who added detailed personal information about his life to share. I greatly recommend to read. You will experience what an amazing God was/is in His life.

With God Everything is Possible!
What a great book. Well written, witty, humorous. A real life story of God’s grace in action. We have bought extra copies to share with family members with the hope that they will benefit from Danny’s extraordinary approach to cope and overcome a very serious heart condition. Highly recommended reading for anyone struggling with health issues. Excellent gift to share with love ones struggling to find hope and encouragement in their life.

A Great Read!
I only agreed to write this review because I thought Danny Covey was related to THE Stephen R. Covey (just kidding). Filled with cleverness and wit, Danny's story is a true testament to the power of determination, resilience and faith. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to others looking for a captivating and thought-provoking read.

Grey's Anatomy Meets Enter the Dragon with a Healthy Dose of Shadowlands

"Scar Tissue," is Danny's recounting of his own life, a tale that runs the gamut from operating theaters to martial arts dojos. One might think a story about surviving multiple open-heart surgeries would be devoid of levity, but fear not, Danny mixes tragedy, levity and wisdom with aplomb.

Danny is like a librarian that is also a secret cage fighter – His love of and dedication to martial arts amidst his health challenges suggests a mantra of 'float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, and if your heart fails, surgery number three.'

But in all seriousness this is a deeply personal book in all the good ways. Conversations that we ourselves have about our faith and the meaning of life (No it's not 42) aren't just thrown in, but are clearly - through his unique circumstances - mulled over and prayed over.

Read this book and you will probably keep thinking about it for a while, at least you should be.

- It's tempting to imagine alternative titles like "Heartbreak Warrior" or "The Cardio Kid," but Danny pulls no punches with the simplicity that is "Scar Tissue."

Excellent Book! A True Memoir of Hope and Perseverance in Hardships. Danny's journey from childhood to adulthood, marked by his health struggles, is truly uplifting. Reading about how others persevere through life's hardships gives me strength for my own challenges. His descriptions of the obstacles he and his family overcame serve as an encouragement to everyone. This book serves as a powerful reminder that God can transform even the worst experiences into something good. Thank you, Danny, for sharing your story and inspiring us all.

A story straight from the heart. Danny Covey gives a vulnerable look into the thoughts and feelings that happen in life's most difficult trials. He brings you on a journey of anticipation and hope folded in with humorous stories and lessons learned. He encourages the reader who may find themselves on either side of a crisis - whether as a spectator or in the spotlight. An enjoyable read of a miraculous life.

With a friendly, homey, and humorous style, Danny Covey, takes us through the journey of his life facing and surviving eight heart surgeries starting as a little boy. He is wonderfully transparent about his physical and psychological struggles. It is a chronicle of surmounting great adversity and coming out the better.
