Hot diddly damn! This was downright nasty and vicious! I haven't read much from YM Miller, but this made me regret that. As I've said a million times over, there is a certain art to creating a proper splatterpunk story. Many authors try, but few manage to succeed. YM Miller has beaten the odds and won me over big here. The story had plenty of depth, especially with Liam, our lead, from his traumatic upbringing and the very erotic and dangerous situation that he found himself in with his place of employment...or indentured servitude...or whatever the hell you call it. The gore factor was top notch and there was a solid story with tons of context, making the splatterpunk fare seem right at home. You'll wince, you'll gag, but you'll sure as heck find yourself strangely intrigued. This is a story that all gore hounds and horror nuts need to take a look at.

'Fine Young Cannibals!'

A great story that managed to maintain my interest throughout, though the last quarter, which had the potential to deliver a simply knock-out winning conclusion, tended to tail off into the 'ordinary and expected' rather than adding that extra sparkle and excitement that the rest of the story so obviously deserved.

Generally, still a really good, enjoyable read, but for me the ending felt a little pedestrian, flat(ish) and slightly disappointing.

Anyway, planning to read much more from this highly talented young horror writer in future, so keep up the good work Ms Miller!

Rating: 4.2 sizzling hot stars of the unusual.

“Jizz and shit stains were Liam’s life. He couldn’t hack it any longer.”

-This is the opening line of the story. If you don’t want to read this anymore then go on and get out. 🤣

Liam is a 20 year old young man who’s not found his purpose yet in life. He comes from a dark childhood with his mother having been a drug addict and his father being brutally murdered. His mother’s drug dealer also did some very depraved things to this poor boy throughout his childhood.

He’s sick of working as a caregiver and wants to find another job that doesn’t require wiping anymore asses for a living. When he stumbles upon a kitchen assistants job at The Leaky Ladle, he’s quick to jump in and see if he’s a good fit. Once Liam makes his way inside he is immediately thrown off guard and feels like something is amiss and he was right on the money with that assumption…

Next thing he knows is that he’s chained up and naked in the presence of 8 corpses. 😳 what’s the worst that could happen?

This story was wild. YM Miller really knocked it out of the park with this one. I thought that There’s Something in Your Mouth was foul but oh no this story right here takes it even further. Miller did a phenomenal job with the development of these characters and I loved that we got Abby’s POV later throughout the book! It really made such an impact knowing how she came to be about in this position and why. Liam’s backstory was also very well done. The gore and bloodshed factors? 100000000/10. Absolutely disgusting and beyond gruesomely detailed.

A moment for the hot cheese scene… 🧀♨️🥴😵‍💫
IYKYK. 😬

The creativity behind the kills in this story was 🤌🤌
The ENDING?! Just wow. Liam’s new look was the cherry on top 🍒🙌

Human Soup is available now and on KU. Go get it friends!

This was so gross!
The main character, Liam, is well-written and interesting, and the story itself is incredibly disturbing. This was my first book by Y.M. Miller, and it won't be the last!

Liam is stuck in a job at a care home that he hates and decides to change jobs and work in a restaurant. He has no idea the horror that awaits him and what the owners are doing. I love the flashbacks to his younger days about his mother and her partner, who are alcoholics and drug users. A fantastic read!

Liam is stuck in a dead-end job he despises. However, when an opportunity to work elsewhere arises, he accepts it despite all of its red flags... and soon comes to regret this impulsive decision.
He blacks out after his interview and finds himself tied up in the basement of the kitchen surrounded by corpses of varying decomposition and with body parts missing. He soon realises that he's been abducted by Abby and Dave, who run the restaurant called "The Leaky Ladle" - a restaurant for rich cannibals.. tortured and forced to work for them, Liam won't allow these people to break him..

This is hands down my favourite book by Y.M.Miller. It's beautifully written, visceral, and heartbreaking. Each chapter alternates between the present where Liam is working at the restaurant and the past, whereby you realise he's had a horrific childhood filled with sexual abuse and neglect at the hands of his drug addict mother and her boyfriend.

Abby has got to be one of the most vicious and vile female characters I've ever had the displeasure of reading about. She's absolutely psychotic and completely devoid of any human emotion. She abuses Liam both physically and mentally and loves it, and Liam attempts to cope with it as he's infatuated with her.. or so he thinks.

This tale is gory, utterly depraved and disgusting - and you just can't help but hope for Liam throughout. This is a highly recommended read!

What. The. Heck.

Y.M. Miller has a talent. She turns victims into villains, and it's by choice, not by circumstance. In extreme horror and splatterpunk, nobody expects a happy ending. Yet when the curtains are about to come down and the victim is about to win, the author turns them into a villain that would surpass the original. The horror not only continues, but it becomes worse. She did it in You're Going To Die Here, and she has done it again in Human Soup. -

Wow!

A restaurant from hell. A poor young child suffers abuse at the hands of a monster. Fast forward, and the poor shell of a man, doing a job he hates, is lured by the promise of a new job, into the kitchen from hell, by Abby and Dave. Absolute torture, mayhem and canbablism ensues in this fast moving story.

Liam’s life has sucked from the beginning. His mom is a waste of oxygen and he works a crappy job to supply her drug habit.

While roaming the streets at night he finds a paper with a job offer, he thinks why not and goes right to the place to apply only to get hired immediately.

But is the restaurant what it seems or will Liam endure another traumatic event at the hands of someone evil?

I enjoyed the concept of the book and the writing overall, I’ll be reading more by this author.

Human Soup is a deliciously deranged concoction of terror, dark humor, and visceral storytelling. Y.M. Miller pulls no punches in this gore-soaked, extreme horror novel, blending grotesque imagery with a surprisingly engaging narrative. If you love your horror unapologetically wild and boundary-pushing, this book is for you. 🧟‍♂️💀🍲

The story centers on Liam, a down-on-his-luck nursing assistant who stumbles into a horrifying situation after taking a kitchen job at the suspiciously named "Leaky Ladle." What follows is a descent into madness, cannibalism, and mind-bending revelations that will make your stomach churn and your pulse race.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
The real horror begins when Liam discovers that the Leaky Ladle isn’t just serving soup—it’s serving people. The scene where Liam is forced to consume human flesh by the sadistic Abby is both grotesque and oddly captivating. Abby is a standout character—chilling, seductive, and absolutely unhinged. Her twisted games and the psychological torment she inflicts on Liam elevate the terror to a whole new level.

One of the most shocking moments comes when Liam realizes he’s not the first victim. The grim discovery of decayed corpses in the basement, each with their own horrific story, paints a picture of the restaurant’s horrifying legacy. And that final showdown between Liam and Abby? Let’s just say it’s bloody, brutal, and oh-so-satisfying.

Its blend of intense horror and dark comedy sets Human Soup apart. The humor is twisted, but it provides just enough levity to make the gore more palatable. Miller’s writing is sharp and vivid, and while the book is heavy on the blood and guts, it never loses sight of its characters.

This isn’t a story for the faint of heart. It’s extreme, graphic, and not afraid to get messy—literally. But Human Soup is a must-read if you’re looking for a horror novel that will leave you shocked, entertained, and maybe a little queasy. Just don’t read it while eating dinner. 😉

SOUP'S ON! Y.M. Miller has returned yet again with another delightfully twisted Splatterpunk novella. Human Soup fits snuggly into a sub-genre of horror I've stumbled into reading this year "How Monsters are Made". Miller has already proven her deft skill at writing messy, twisted tales. Human Soup is no exception. Amidst the blood, depravity and meat prep, we are treated to further examples of the monstrous things people can do. Is it for love? For Revenge? For Power? Readers can ponder these questions as they work through the various dishes Miller serves them as they read. Line one of chapter one already had me laughing, and as I moved deeper into the book, it became clear Miller had rolled up her selves and decided to have some real fun with this story. In true Miller fashion, there were moments I exclaimed and audible "ooo!" and jaw dropping with a "so that's happened". As someone who enjoys cooking, and has seen a few cooking shows, I found myself wondering how certain "dishes" would be prepared, and what they would pair with. Fans of Splatterpunk best come hungry when reading Human Soup , but be warned...you'll leave satisfied, but soon be hungry for more of Y.M Miller's writing. BON APPETITE!

Another bloody marvellous extreme masterpiece by Y.M. Miller.

Brain Soup, Labia Steaks and Molten Cheese Members.

Liam is a little lost and sick of his current career as a carer, so he applies for a job at The Leaky Ladle.....unfortunately it isn't the escape he was hoping for.
Human Soup gives us Cannabalism, Murder, Sex, Torture, the story of a very traumatic past and a bunch of dark humour for that extra Y.M.Miller touch!

THE ENDING!!!

Straight into my top 5 EH reads of the year, I loved every minute of this book, cycled through every emotion and lapped up every single bit of DISGUSTING gore.
From Tears to Turned On.

1000% reccomend.

Thank you again for sending me the ARC, an absolute privilege.

Liam had a heartbreaking childhood of abuse from his mother to random men his mother allowed to abuse him. As an adult working in a care home, wanting a different career. Applying for a kitchen job, only to become kidnapped and tortured by a psychopath woman. Labby is a little psycho.
I had to skip past the chapters of the past once the abuse started.
Other than the past chapters, I enjoyed it.

Steady your gag reflex,

Liam is desperate to find a new job. No experience required, just the willingness to put heart, flesh and blood into service.

Liam is a tortured character, in every way. The torment of his early years is heartbreaking ; his current state of affairs stomach churning; the desire to shape his destiny uncomfortably compelling.

My first read by this author and it won’t be my last.

horror at its finest

Wow this book was everything. It was horrific, gut wrenching and sad, it was inventive and just grotesque. I loved it . It was so different from what I usually read but man I had to keep reading the fresh horror to see how it ended. It just blew my mind with all the horror of a snapped mind.

Woooaaahhh! This was a wild ride from start to finish! It’s definitely not for the faint of heart! Trigger warning central. Great story, good plot and the character development was great! Let’s just say I’ll be eyeing up the kitchen when I head out to a restaurant for quite sometime! I hope I don’t bump into Labby anytime soon.

Worst job interview ever

Poor Liam. He just wanted a change but the change he found was more depraved than he thought. He found pain and the darkest parts of himself. This was a bloody and enjoyable read!

After reading this book I think I will not eat out. I really felt sorry for Liam but I was so mad at the way it ended. He could have gotten away from this group of nuts. Loved the book kept yoh turning pages.
