Mixed feelings about this book

So, on the one hand it's an enjoyable read. Once it gets going properly it gets easier to read and easier to fall into the storyline.
Until something happens that pulls you right out of the storyline and sets your metaphorical teeth on edge.
Like people mainlining heroine.
That right there is a basic error.
There are plenty of other examples.
The book is liberally littered with mixed tense.
The author couldn't make their mind up as to which branch of military the H served with.
Delta. Green berets (which would have happened before Delta) back to Delta. Then he was a Ranger. Then back to Delta.
Some of the sentence structure is so far off the wall it's difficult to understand what the author is trying to convey.
The puppy changed sex twice.
Missing words or incorrect words.
If the book had received editorial attention I would have had no hesitation in giving 5 stars but as it stands I honestly can't give more than 3.
The author has said writing from the heart is more important than grammar etc but I have to disagree because the power of the written word is immense until it makes no sense.
It also feels slightly disrespectful of the readers when an author can't be bothered to correct mistakes or ensure the people spending money actually receive a good quality product.
I will purchase the next book if only to see if the quality improves but if not then it will be the last I purchase by the author.
Which would be a shame because this book shows the potential to be an all time favourite.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was recommended to me in a MC Romance group.

To me, it's BARELY a MC book. It's a MILITARY book. It heavily, and I do mean HEAVILY centers around current, past, present military members, operations, terms, they even live on a compound.
Almost every male and one female character in the book are veterans.

There's nothing wrong with that but again, it says Creed's Lake MC, a military biker romance. I assumed, wrongly, it was more of a book about an MC. I don't always read military romances because of my own life experiences and this was a bit much for me.

Especially when a lot of the language, military terms, branches of military are mixed up and exchanged as the book goes on. It needed heavy editing for more than just what I'm mentioning. Language mix-ups, past tenses, incorrect words, or phrases, changing of characters names/branch of military, I'm fairly sure even one character was a man then a woman.

It's also hardly a romance. The two main characters while engaging and living in the same house aren't even together, even sleeping together, for I'd say a good 70% of the book. They're very attracted to each other but there's too much plot going on to really develop their story. It’s like they’re dancing around each other for most of the book, finally get together, sleep together a ton then major drama, then bam book ends. For as long as it was there’s hardly any relationship development. Not enough to give me a HEA, marriage and babies feeling.

Alistair Creed (MMC) and Morgan Rossi (FMC) are the main characters.

Creed is a secret billionaire many times over. He’s been in the military almost his entire life (As a Seal? Ranger? Delta Force? It changes constantly) still goes out on secret missions as a contractor, bought up an entire lake and 4000 acres in a sleepy little town and created his own compound for veterans. Basically, it’s a private military base. It has housing, grocery stores, an entertainment center, private offices, daycares, a school, even helicopter pads and a private airstrip.

It has incredibly high walls and intense security but *no one who doesn’t live there* is supposed to know anything about it, what it is or what they do. They all have to sign NDA’s. They even import whores and have them work jobs at Creed’s Lake. Basically, if you live at Creed’s Lake, you almost never leave Creed’s Lake. The entire town just seems to think it’s a MC warehouse.

Let’s be honest, this makes no sense. Everyone around them thinks military trucks, private deliveries, helicopters, and private jets on 4000 acres belongs to a biker group that almost no one ever sees?

Morgan Rossi is a very famous actress. She’s one of the few child actors in Hollywood that never got corrupt. She doesn’t do drugs, she’s only had sex with two men her entire life, her parents went on every call or movie set as a kid so she never became an asshole stuck up fake person basically. She’s a walking sex goddess who shows her tits and ass on screen but with a heart of gold, innocence that “wafts” off her and the sweetest, nicest personality on the planet. Essentially, she’s too good to be true.

Creed and Morgan meet by chance on an airplane with that instant light up my body and my heart soul mate connection that they both ignore.

Creed is jaded, hates rich people, hates Hollywood, hates actresses with a passion because turns out his mother was an attention whore model who ditches his billionaire dad, broke his heart and became the evil witch of Hollywood known for her bad attitude and evil demeanor.

He basically dismisses Morgan, thinks she’s fake, thinks she has an ulterior motive and is hiding her “true personality” almost half the book. Ironic since he’s ya know a BILLIONAIRE. So of course he’s an asshole without even trying to know her.

Morgan is coming home to her uber small town (turns out this is where Creed's compound is) because she’s finally gotten out from her terrible contract (Ironically forced on her by Creed’s mother and stepfather, that doesn’t come out until much later) and to check on her childhood best friend, Callie. Callie has stopped doing video calls once a week with Morgan and is married to a very abusive druggie but won’t leave him.

Morgan comes home and Callie and her daughter are missing. She files a missing persons report and a Amber Alert for the child since she hasn’t been going to school. One night Morgan gets lured to a motel by Callie, who is half beaten to death. Turns out her druggie husband wants Morgan to pay him millions of dollars and to r@pe her. He kills Callie in front of Morgan, than tries to kill Morgan. The daughter, Addie is locked in a bathroom. Creed saves Morgan and Addie.

Morgan gets custody of Addie. Her and Addie live on Creed’s compound in his house for safety reasons. Remember, she’s also a Hollywood movie star and is stalked and harassed everywhere. She can’t even go to Creed’s compound/entertainment center because everyone is so obsessed with how hot she is.

Eventually, Morgan and Creed get together. To be fair, he seemed to fall in love with the little girl well before Morgan. They sleep together without protection. Creed also goes to premieres with her so now the whole world knows about the billionaire and the movie star. Creed then tells her he has to go on one last top secret mission with the government because even though he retired out of the military, he didn’t really retire Mmmmmk?

Creed goes away for months. Shocker not shocker, Morgan is pregnant with twins. We get to hear how impossibly hot she is while pregnant.

95% of the way through the book, CREED DIES. WE’RE TOLD HE DOESN’T MAKE IT BACK FROM HIS SUPER IMPOSSIBLE MISSION.

Then the world goes into lockdown and terrorist attacks happen in big cities all over the world. Creed killed the “biggest terrorist” ever but there were still terrorist cells set up and some of these attacks go off around the world. London, Seattle, LA, New York, Paris… Creed’s entire compound and essentially every branch of the military goes out to stop these attacks and the President makes the entire USA “go dark”.

Creed’s team comes back and brings Morgan outside. Lo and behold Creed didn’t die but was captured and tortured. They thought he died because a terrorist stole his camis and his dog tags to infiltrate his camp and it backfired.

Creed and Morgan get married. Creed adopts Addie as well. They have twin boys. End of book. I will not be reading the next in the series.

Absolutely Amazing

This is one of the best longer books I've read in a while...perfectly imperfect well written characters. I love the story line and I'm jumping straight into the next book.
