From the bestselling author of Blackwood Institute and Sabre Security comes a gritty battle against the criminal underworld with a tough-as-nails heroine and the agents determined to love her rough edges.
I am Asset 768. Victim. Survivor. Now… Agent.
After six years of underground fights, a saviour emerges from the shadows. With secret-filled onyx eyes and a past as tangled as mine, his salvation from the cartel has strings attached.
I’m a bargaining chip, delivered to my brother’s best friend and the infamous Anaconda Team. Yet freedom is a bittersweet victory that comes at a cost.
Haunted by my time in captivity and memories forged in violence, I’m offered a lifeline: Join Sabre Security. In return, they’ll help me to enact justice against my traffickers.
But the real danger isn’t my unrelenting thirst for vengeance—it’s my powerful, possessive teammates who will prove to be far deadlier than the fighting pits.
Close quarters blur boundaries, melting professionalism into forbidden lust. I want to take back all that I lost, and not even the threat of my captor hunting down his stolen asset can stop me from filling the chasm he carved inside me.
He thinks I’m just a number. He’ll soon learn I’m his reckoning.

J Rose is an independent dark romance author from the United Kingdom. She writes challenging, plot-driven stories packed full of angst, heartbreak and broken characters fighting for their happily ever afters.
She’s an introverted bookworm at heart with a caffeine addiction, penchant for cursing and an unhealthy attachment to fictional characters.
Feel free to reach out on social media, J Rose loves talking to her readers!
J. Rose never disappoints me. Fractured Future is such an emotional, wild ride. I love how I can relate to all her FMCS 🖤 The guys 😈 I just love them when they are unhinged. She does why choose romances like no other. The freaking tension. Oh, my gawd! ❤️🔥Yes, it's a slow burn, but she does them so well!! 😮💨🔥 RTC 🖤
4.5✨ i know this is still a new release but this book is already being slept on.
i absolutely loved the plot of this book. it was giving jbree x HD carlton x jennifer hartmann. it roped me in from the very beginning and never let go. i loved the characters, i loved the slow burn, i loved the relationships being teased.
honestly i loved ember. i know she’s been through some incredible trauma and i can’t tell if it’s that, or the writing, but she came off a little immature at times. and i feel like that’s a harsh criticism for this particular story considering everything that happens but it still kinda stood out to me. that being said, don’t get me wrong, i did love ember. she’s so strong and badass, and i so appreciate her desire to get revenge and avenge every single woman and girl who has been through what she was put through. she’s not simpering or letting trauma hold her back from getting what she wants. i love how she’s unwilling to settle for less than what she wants.
i looooove the men. so much. warren, the brother’s best friend. hyland, the bodyguard. axel, the unhinged, violent psycho. i mean come on, it’s a perfect group if you ask me. especially when you take into consideration the years, plural, they’ve spent looking for her. swoon. the nearly lifelong, borderline pining. swoon. and blaine…i don’t care if i shouldn’t like him, i don’t care what he’s planning, i love him. i’m so incredibly eager to see what the story arc with these four men is going to be in the coming books. i need more of them immediately.
the fact that the second book is not already in my hands is torture. i’m honestly offended by how good & addicting this was and that i don’t have the next book. this book just impressed the hell out of me. from the characters to the plot to the writing. i was expecting it to be good but honestly not this good. i couldn’t put this book down and i’m dying for the next one.
“None of us ever stopped looking.”
“It could’ve been sixty years, and I’d still be searching for you.”
“Seeing her smile makes me feel light inside. I want her to keep laughing. To forget how incredibly fucked up this all is, even if just for a moment. Maybe I can do that for her.”
“I want the chance to take back my power and fight the monsters who did this to me. I want vengeance.”
“I’ll be the fuel to your fire, red. Just tell me who you want to burn first.”
• dark romance • romantic suspense • why choose • brother’s best friend • bodyguard • found family • forced proximity • private security • slow burn • who did this to you • badass survivor fmc • disability rep • TW: human trafficking, kidnapping, mental health, physical & mental disability
Okay so yes I knew this was going to end in a cliffhanger but i'm still upset about it because oh my gosh 😭. How are you gonna just do that to me??
Another from J Rose that I freaking flew through. The slow burn here is soooo good. There's so much freaking tension that sooner or later it's going to explode and be fantastic.
I'm not super sure how I feel on all the guys yet except for Axel. He's unhinged as heck and exactly my type: walking red flag. I hope Ember eats them all alive like the queen she is.
Next book please 🥲
Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for the gifted arc
Wow J Rose you absolutely crushed it with this book, I loved Blackwood Institute so I knew I would love this one also.
Ember is the strongest most bravest girl, to know how much torture she went through when she was sold and trafficked and forced to fight but still did everything in her power to stay alive.
It makes my heart happy to know Warner, axel and Hyland will do everything in their power to keep Ember safe now that she made it back home.
WHAT WAS THAT ENDING..?😭 I need that 2nd book like right now pleaseee.
I feel like Blaine secretly cares for Ember to even tho the boys can’t not stand him!
I can’t not believe Hudson and Kade are the fucking bosses of the company!!! They were everything to me in Blackwood Institute😍
Umm hello? That cliffhanger? what the hell!! I need book 2 now! 😭
but, as always j rose never misses! she gives you these addictive and interesting plots with amazing characters. I was hooked! And I’m so glad to be back in the J Rose universe! 🖤
listen, the slow burn was BURNINGGGG! I internally screamed so many times while reading! But the tension in this book is unmatched like I could actually feel the tension between Ember and the guys.. 🙂↕️ and I was eating it up! Ember’s story is so sad but she’s such a strong and badass FMC! Axel and Hyland are great of course but I already loved Warner from the previous books so I’m glad he’s getting his story now! And umm are we supposed to like Blaine? 🫣 I hope so because i LOVE him and I need more of him ASAP! I have a feeling he’s going to be my favorite guy! I am so honored to have received an arc for this book and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Ember and her guys! I just know it’s going to be crazy ride and I’m here for it!
Also, seeing some of the other characters from previous books always makes me so happy 🥹 I love them so much and I’ll never get enough of them! Hudson will always be my fav J Rose MMC.
And lastly, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, if you haven’t started the J Rose universe yet, what are you doing??? Start it now! 😮💨
Another hit by Rose. After seeing bits and pieces of the Anaconda team in her other books I was already excited when she announced they were getting their own books.
Rose is talented when it comes to writing her FMC’s. Their trauma, their spirit, their strength, everything is always so well crafted and written in a way you can’t help but love them. Add in her flair for badass mmc’s who will do anything for their woman and you have the perfect combination.
Fractured future gives us Ember and she may end up being my favorite yet, she’s strong and sassy and full of a spirit that doesn’t quit.
First of all: When are we going to get a second one?😭 Second: Axel has a 1978 Harley🤭.
tropes: 🦋 reverse harem 🦋 investigation 🦋 strong FMC 🦋 forbidden love 🦋 brother's best friend 🦋 found family 🦋 slow burn 🦋 disability representation 🦋 forced proximity
☞ Before we begin, I remind you: check out the triggers!
╰┈➤ For 6 years, Ember was enslaved, forced to earn money for her "owner" in underground fights, until a British man notices her🫣. After rescuing Ember, our mysterious non-superhero basically hands her over to the special team «Anaconda", where her brother's best friend works—the one who hasn't stopped looking for her for the past six years😩.
Now, not just for herself, but for all the other women who were also kidnapped and imprisoned, Ember begins the training to join the “Anaconda” team and seek justice.
➥ The men in this book are SO sweet, I could eat them up. This isn't the first time I've read J. Rose's books, and what can I say — she writes some of the best men. Yes, they may be alpha-holes in some cases — this is kind of a factory setting —, but each of them is either a big teddy bear or the sweetest marshmallow inside. Warner, Axel, and Hyland are the main characters, the men of dreams, and they're all already taken😩. We could have a British guy, but... but🫣
I'm so excited for the next part! There are two more books coming, and I needed them yesterday!😭 p.s. I think I'll never stop torturing myself by starting new trilogies/series with a cliffhanger at the end.
One thing about J Rose is that she’s gonna write a bad ass, strong ass, resilient ass FMC and I LOVE that.
I LOVED Warner in previous books, and I loved him equally as much in this one. I love Ax and Hyland too, but they can’t take Warners place. I’m so excited for the rest of this, and for Ember to get the justice she deserves.
……I also have a crush on Blaine. SUE ME.
I wasn’t prepared for the cliffhanger, so I need the next book IMMEDIATELY.
J. Rose did it again: I finished Fractured Future almost in one sitting because it just had me that hooked. Honestly one of her best work yet!
We follow Ember, who’s a victim of human trafficking and then ends up being rescued by the Anaconda Team of Sabre Security. I love love love the little cameos of the main characters of the previous books. J. Rose just never missed when it comes to dark romance.
The vibes ™: - why choose ❤️🔥 - trying to take down a human trafficking ring - high stakes - mental health & chronic illness rep 🫂 - spice 👀 - all the J. Rose goodness you’d expect 🫶🏻
Due to that cliffhanger I’m now impatiently waiting for book two 😭
Thanks to the author for allowing me to read this as an e-arc 💌✨
i was lucky enough to recieve an ARC copy of this book, but i’ve been super busy with school and haven’t been able to read it until now. this also has no impact on my review.
now, where do i even begin??? j. rose has such a unique way of presenting characters. we get to bond with the characters through their hardships and trauma. i thoroughly enjoyed this book, as i got much more insight into some of my favorite characters from previous series.
i really felt for ember, and i loved watching her evolve as well as open up and learn to trust. warner is so babygirl, hyland is a grumpy sweetheart, axel is just so funny and scary, and i think blaise may join the mix! i am so excited to see where this goes. i hate that this book ended on a cliffhanger, but would it be a true j. rose book if it hadn’t? i can’t wait for the next book. GODSPEED J. ROSE!!! PLEASE WRITE FAST
9 out of 10 stars and 🌶️🌶️ for this excitingly-rendered first installation in the Anaconda Tales!
J Rose delivers another high-octane action and gripping drama with characters that have so much trauma, depth and desperate need of healing. Ember is such a strong and complex character. There’s so much that needs unpacking and it was enthralling to see her difficulties and how she is slowly defeating them. I’m sure we will get more of her (and her harem’s) histories as the series progresses because at the end of this book we have even more questions!
I don’t know how we’re going to get to our baddie and how we’re gonna solve that cliff-hanger. But I cannot wait for more!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️/5 📚 1 of 3 ⺁ Ends on a Cliffhanger 🚨 Check the Trigger Warnings, seriously....this is not a light topic book. 🎙️ Multiple POV's but mainly from FMC Release Date: March 21st 2025
Firstly, I NEED MORE ASAP!!! Seriously I need book two like now, because I absolutely need more of Ember's story and because the anxiety of the unknown is killing me. Im no stranger to J. Rose's books, I loved the Blackwood Institute Trilogy and all of her flawed morally corrupt characters and it was nice to get a glimpse of them in Embers story. Still up to their old antics, in all the best ways.
This is Embers story, and what a story it is. Ember is taken from a date and trafficked into the sex trade but she ends up being a prized champion fighter for a really bad powerful man. Ember's POV of her ordeal are harrowing and tough to read at times as she is brutally victimized for 6 long years and has to literally fight for her life every single day to survive. She is so strong, and honestly so kick ass that you cant do anything but want to like her.
The men in her life [Yes these are listed in the order in which I adore them, and while this is book one and I reserve the right to change my mind at any time.....This is my order at the end of this book]
Warner is her older brothers best friend, but also her childhood best friend who has been chasing down leads and looking for her non stop for the past 6 years with his company Sabre Security. He's her steady in the constant storm, and her support system that has seen her at every low and high that she has had. This man is so into her that finding her has literally consumed her for the past 6 years.
Axel is a psychotic Golden Retriever who is so freaking down bad for Ember. He's the first to make her smile, and he makes it his mission to bring some joy back into her life after what shes been through. But dont let that fool you, he will literally skin anyone alive or break every bone in their body just for looking at her wrong. Ember embraces all that makes Axel, Axel...Even his tragic upbringing.
Hyland, strong silent mountain of a man who buries all his pain deep down and is emotionally stunted from his past traumas. Im not going to lie, I dont really like Hyland which is fine because I like 3/4 of the Anaconda Team. He's just too flat for me if i'm being honest, and I have a hang up about long hair [which is always being brought up when he's mentioned from Ember's pov] that takes me out of picturing him in a likable way. I dont like his over the top protectiveness, especially given what we know about Ember. SHE DONT NEED NO MAN!! Give her some space my dude, damn.
This book seriously kept me up all night, there were no slow parts only slow burn....Like seriously slow freaking burn, so if thats not your thing and you want heat then honestly still read this book cause its good...Just go into it knowing there isnt too much heat. Only a few mildly spicy moments, but if this book is anything like the others from J. Rose, book 2 will bring it.
Tropes: * Why Choose * Criminal Investigation * Strong FMC * Forbidden Love * Brother's Best Friend * Found Family * Disability Rep * Forced Proximity * Slow Burn
Dark themes and forced proximity for this why choose romance and the slowest of slow burns but you didn’t even miss the spice because the story was that good.
excuse me? i knew going into this, this book would be dark. but DAMNNNNNN J ROSE YOU DID NOT HOLD BACK. PAGE ONE, BOOM 💥
i loved loved loved ember with my whole heart. seeing her journey from just the beginning of the book has me so ready for her to heal as the series go on, she is my baby fr 😭
there was so much emotion this first book involving family ties that was so heart breaking but goddamn was it written so well.
we also meet a few men 😏 without naming names, we have a cute childhood friends background, an insane but quirky psycho, the overbearing protector, and mayyybeeee something akin to a phantom? 👀 i love all the main characters in this book so much, and having a badass fmc who isn’t afraid to say and ask for what she wants is always my favorite to read 😭
i can’t wait to keep reading this series as it goes on, because wheewww that ending?! HELLLLOOOOO
this is my first j rose book but you can quickly tell (if you didn’t already know) this book is in the same universe as a lot of her other series, while it is easy to figure out the place in the universe i will 10000% be reading from the first series to make sure i know every single little thing about every side character for the next release 🤣
thank you j rose and valentines pr for the arc! all thoughts and opinions are my own!
Will there ever be a J Rose book I won't love? I think not. Out of all the books I've read only 1 has been a 4 star, all the others have been easy 5 stars if I could give more they would be 465 stars.
I love this univers that J Rose have created, I hope she never stops writing in it. Obviously someday there won't be more stories left and what a sad day that will be.
One of the things that make J Rose one of my favorites is the character development in her books. There's usually not a ton of serious plot. Instead it's all about each character working through something so that they're good and ready for the next book. And even though the plot is slow I'm so freaking entertained. I'm not bored. I'm not hoping something will happen. I trust the process. And that's easy to do in a J Rose book cause you will not regret it.
Ember is by far the strongest heroine I have ever read. Everything she went through is horrific, most people would not have been able to survive. The way J Rose wrote Ember's character was beautiful. I was there with Ember for everything and it was definitely hard to read at times. Then once she was saved I really felt the heartbreak of hers in returning to normal life and how hard that was and allowing herself to live again. It was really beautiful.
I have to say that Blaine Madden came crashing into Ember's life and what a wild ride it was even if it was way to short. That entrance must go down in history as my favorite character introduction.
I have such a soft spot for Axel. Several times when Axel said something violent or outrageous I was smiling because I knew he wasn't kidding. I don't know why but I smiled every time.
J Rose is the best why-choose author. There's never a member of the harem that I dislike or not care about. Sure I have favorites but I still love everyone.
I loved this book. I loved the characters. Can't wait for the next book, that cliffhanger was crazy.
J pulled out the slowest and most tension filled slow burn of my life and…. I’m not mad about it!!!
This book was so delicious, and such a perfect start to J’s newest trilogy, Anaconda Tales! I am already invested in every single one of these characters, and cannot wait to see the character development.
I’ve said it once before, and I’ll say it again. Diving into every J Rose book feels like coming back home. I adored this book, and to say I’m ready for book two is an understatement!
another day, another j rose book that I fall in love with? are we shocked? no! I flew through this book, it was soooo good omg! the plot was gripping from the start, I could put it down after that prologue, it really grabs your interest from the get go! j rose really knows how to write badass female characters, and as for in this book, the fmc, ember, is definitely one of those characters, she was so resilient and strong despite everything she’s been through, but we also got to read about her raw emotions, she was a well developed and complex character which I adored! as for the meds, I love how each of them is different from the other, and I’m loving the side plot for blaine and how his character fits into this little group despite his past, each guy has their own dynamics, plots, and personalities which makes reading a why choose so much easier to distinguish between them! overall, an amazing first book in this series, with that cliffhanger, IM DYING FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!
I don't even know where to start with this review as in true J Rose fashion, I am left screaming over the cliffhanger.
Ember is a true badass FMC, from the moment her story starts you can see she's a fighter, determined, and so stubborn. She goes through hell for six years, and has built some strong mental walls around herself - that the men on the anaconda team are prepared to break down. As always with J Rose's books, you can expect a real and raw description of different mental health struggles.
I can't wait for the next book and to get more answers. Back to screaming over that ending now....
Wow what a journey this book was. I will preface this by saying this book is dark and deals with many triggering topics including trafficking. Before you go into this book please check your trigger warnings.
This was my first book by J. Rose but it certainly won’t be my last. I was absolutely addicted to this audiobook and now that I know that she has more books set in this same universe I can’t wait to dive into more.
This book was a whirlwind. Ember is such an incredibly strong and inspiring fmc. She survived so much and even in the face of danger she stood her ground and challenged the bad guys. I loved watching her try and take back her life. Spending time with each of the members of the Anaconda team brought out different aspects of her personality.
The slow burn and tension between Ember and Warner, Axel and Hyland was painful in the best way. Add in the unexpected Blaine and I’m so excited to see how this plays out! Each is so different from each other. Warner, Axel and Hyland are such a cohesive team and add in the bad blood with Blaine and book two is looking like it’s going to be a very enjoyable ride 😏.
The audio narration was really well done. I would have loved if each male character had their own narrator but either way Hannah Hedley and Will Thorne did an excellent job voicing these characters. I was completely captivated by this story and their performance.
Thank you to J Rose and Valentine PR for the opportunity to recieve an alc of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book? Gritty. Unforgiving. Unapologetically powerful.
Fractured Future is more than a revenge fantasy—it’s a bloody resurrection. Watching the FMC claw her way from victim to vengeance-fueled weapon had me holding my breath the entire time.
The emotional weight? Heavy. The chemistry? Lethal. And the Anaconda Team? If feral protective energy was a drug, I’d be overdosing.
There’s trauma, rage, resilience, and yes—heat that will have you gripping the pages. But it’s also about found family, healing, and the very messy road between survival and power.
I devoured it. I felt it. And I already need book two.
4.5 stars for the blend of danger, slow-burning trust, and the moments that hit way too close to home.
Recommended if you love: — trauma recovery arcs — close-quarters feral tension — protective men with no chill — morally grey MCs who refuse to stay broken
This is book one in a thrillogy. And I? I’m fully in.
Ahh the cliffy! So good - I'll be waiting for the next book!!
This was my first book by this author and I did very much enjoy - I will be reading more.
Intense start for sure and I just got pulled in. The tension between her and the guys was THERE. You could feel it off the pages... !
Also Ember, strong, Bad A** female. I loved her character and I love that the author wrote a strong female. Again, first time reader for her and I loved this aspect
Oohhh my freak’n gosh this book!!! J. Rose has done it again!!! Aahhh this book had me on an emotional roller coaster!!!! & that cliffhanger!!😭 I need the next one please 😅 oohhh my gosh!! No words .. & I don’t wanna say anything cuz you know I don’t wanna give anything away lol .. so.. all I know is this is a must read just like all her other books !! 🩵🖤
I’m so excited we get the Anaconda team’s story!! It was everything!!!
While this book covers some extremely heavy topics and trauma, compared to the Harrowdean Manor duet, I enjoyed that it was slightly more light hearted and humorous.
The guys are all SO FINE and have an edge to them. Their banter is so fun but they truly see each other as family. Ember was fierce and the perfect fit into this crazy group. After everything she endured she was still such a fighter and I admired her strength, her resilience, and the silent battles she faced.
While I loved all the guys for various reasons, my boo Axel was perfection. I mean who would fall for a quirky funny dude who is completed tatted and also legit CRAZY!
I think Blaine came in a close second kind of for the same reasons. He was a hilarious, flirty, bad boy through and through.
I also really enjoyed that there was multi POV. I’m nosey and want to know what everyone is thinking and feeling and it really just made the book so well rounded. The Anaconda team was fascinating to me and I love how all of her books have the characters interconnected. He see Hyland in Briar Valley and Warner in Harrowdean and Blackwood Institute. These interconnected series are truly a dark masterpiece in my opinion.
This was absolutely a winner of an arc for me and I ran at about 22% in to purchase the physical copy because I was so obsessed! Please be sure to check your TW as this book involves some heavy material including trafficking.
ARC kindly provided for the author in exchange for honest review
J. Rose is one of my favorite authors since I started on bookstagram, and of course I liked this book, but there were things in the plot that left me with very mixed feelings, which made it a bit difficult for me to fully love the book, and which I'll describe at the end of my review. I also thought this book had a simplicity that I hadn't seen in the author until now, and I LOVED that about the story. The characters were charming, as is usual with J. Rose, and I think it's going to be the first time I've had a hard time having a favorite. Plus, those updates about Brooke and her guys gave me life.
Ember is the main character of this story, a girl whose life changed in the most unexpected ways: she spends years held against her will, being used as a weapon for other people's enjoyment, and in her attempt to survive, she loses herself. Em is a strong girl, there's no doubt about it, but she also shows a vulnerability I haven't read in any of J. Rose's FMCs so far, and I loved that so much, especially our protagonist's tireless desire to know what happened to Gracie (whom I hope to learn more about in the next book) and those moments where she compares her suffering to that of Gael's other victims and her internal struggle to accept that her pain and trauma are just as valid as those of the other girls. Another aspect I really enjoyed about Ember was the beautiful and special relationship she has with Tom, her older brother, who never stopped looking out for her and, despite making mistakes, is always there for her.
Warner has been Tom's best friend since they were little, so he's always been a part of Ember's life. I really loved that the author showed me some of the sweetest memories of their childhood together, and why the connection between Warner and Ember is so strong that he never stopped looking for her, not just because of his friendship with Tom. Warner is the boss of Anaconda Team, a loyal, kind, and charming man when he's with Em, but his personality changes completely when he has to work for Sabre Security, which made me love him so much.
Hayland is the character I wanted to read the most in this series, and he did NOT disappoint! He's a man with major traumas, regrets, and fears that he expresses by obsessing over the well-being and protection of those around him, and that broke my heart a little, as well as his personal story and everything I learned about this character throughout Fractured Future. I also have to say that I really enjoyed reading Hayland struggling with his feelings for Ember and connecting with her in a special way.
Axel is my favorite so far! I fell in love with his jokey, playful, and slightly (very) crazy personality and the way all the characters describe him. I loved that the author gave us so much information about him: his clothes, his love for food, his likes, a bit of his past, and his place as the newest member of the team. Plus, the mysterious touch and twists in his personal story that the author prepared for us, which I wasn't expecting at all, were some of the best parts of the story.
The first boy we meet in the book is Blaine, a character who arrives in Ember's life in an unexpected and mysterious way, who has connections to Sabre and the Anaconda Team members we meet throughout the story. I think it's best not to say too much about him because that's part of the charm of this flirtatious man.
Finally, as I mentioned at the beginning, there was an important aspect of the plot that caused me a lot of turmoil (and trouble) in this book, especially because of the situations we're experiencing in the world and it's that once again, the "bad guys" in this story are Mexican. I don't know if it's because the story is going to be tied in some way to Briar Valley or not, but it's still a problematic situation because it perpetuates stereotypes about us, and there are some inaccurate descriptions of my country so, that really broke my heart.
