Naughty Girl: A true story of child abuse and an eating disorder

Rate this book
Have you ever wanted to be thinner? Naughty Girl's affair with food and later discoveries will astound you.

Naughty Girl is the compelling story of a young woman’s desperate attempts to find self-worth through sexual appeal. With honesty and insight, Holly Alastra recounts growing up in a violent and abusive home and her later struggles with deadly eating disorders. Though Holly spent many years of her life hating and hurting herself, the story is ultimately inspirational, showing the ability of the human spirit to triumph over hardship and misfortune.

The book opens with Holly in the throes of a passionate, yet dangerous love affair with food. Food is her greatest friend and her worst enemy—a fatal attraction. Holly tries to run from the affair, but she can't escape herself, the one person she wants to get away from most.

An exceptional book, a well written, raw and honest expose of a long struggle with anorexia and bulimia. The author, without self pity, documents both her childhood experiences and reactions to them, along with her increasing awareness and understanding, as she struggles to learn to stop her self loathing and learn to have self love and acceptance. The triggers which keep making her relapse into binging and purging and her documentation of her internal dialogue are so supportive and encouraging to read, and help one not feel so alone or ashamed, if you recognise your own thoughts and emotions. A great asset not just for counsellor working to help those with eating disorders but also a great book to help create insight and awareness and hope with those still struggling with similar issues.

Most impressive, raw, ultimately inspirational memoir I've ever read. Rather or not you've had an eating disorder, you can still learn a lot. I know I did.

To all those who have been abused and/or struggle with eating disorders - this is a MUST READ. Even if you just suspect someone you know may have issues, Holly's story will help you understand.

Thank you, Holly, for sharing so much.

This book is so powerful and really lets you into the author's world. It takes guts to write something so raw, and it takes guts to read it. This was a difficult read sometimes based on the nature of some of the content, and it made my heart just ache for Holly as she struggled to learn to love herself.

This book seemed to have been edited by a 5-yr. old. I've never read anything with more spelling & grammar errors. The story was interesting & gave hope to those suffering from an eating disorder.

This isn't a book that warrants a subjective rating based in stars. This young woman is incredibley brave to share her story in hopes of helping others. It was an honor to read.
