This book had some really cool ideas! Sci-fi, time travel, and a main character tied to a mysterious machine in her family's creepy old manor. The concept was super unique, and I could tell the author put a lot of thought into the world.
I struggled with the pacing and found the timelines and character shifts were hard to follow. I wasn't able to finish it, but I wanted to still share my honest thoughts based on what I did read. Definitely recommend this to readers who like slower, layered sci-fi that makes you think!
Considering I am not a science fiction fan usually, I found the premise of this book very interesting. I won’t give away any spoilers, however I really enjoyed the trip through history with some very well known names! Anna’s character is brilliant and I enjoyed seeing Amelia develop as a character. The appendices at the end of the book were a very nice touch!

✨ ARC Review: Amelia and The Mirror: The Origin by Priyanshu Sharma Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 stars)
Amelia Forefore is a young woman whose childhood was marked by estrangement from her distant mother, who sent her away to boarding school without much explanation. Years later, following her mother’s death, Amelia returns home—only to uncover deep family secrets that reveal her mother had been protecting her from something far greater: a threat that could unravel Earth and life as we know it.
Amelia and the Mirror: The Origin is an ambitious blend of science fiction and fantasy, weaving together technology, aliens, magic, science—and even a touch of romance.
💫 What I enjoyed: Amelia and Thomas had sweet, believable chemistry that added warmth to the story. Their romance scenes were genuinely cute and brought a softer side to the high-stakes plot.
Bombi, the space-alien husky, was a standout! I adored his character and only wish he had been introduced earlier in the book—more Bombi, please!
The action scenes were engaging and well-written, keeping me hooked through key moments of the story.
The overall concept was compelling, with a creative mashup of genres that felt fresh and daring.
🤔 What didn’t work as well for me: The pacing felt uneven. Certain scenes (like the crystal retrieval) felt rushed, while others (like those with Ludvik and Tesla) dragged on a bit too long.
I found myself wondering why the book was titled Amelia and the Mirror, since much of the focus was on Ludvik and the creation of the Overmind. I would’ve preferred a tighter balance with more emphasis on Amelia and the present-day characters.
The 1980s setting was an interesting choice, but it felt a little off—characters didn’t seem surprised by the advanced tech, which stretched believability. Setting it in a modern-day context might have worked better.
💡 Final thoughts: Great for YA readers and fans of sci-fi/fantasy mashups, Amelia and The Mirror: The Origin is an entertaining read full of imagination, heart, and adventure.
Thank you to Priyanshu Sharma for providing me with a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review.
"An ambitious and thought-provoking novel that stumbles in execution, but still manages to leave a lasting impression."
This book had me intrigued from page one. Amelia and the Mirror offers a rare blend of science fiction, gothic mystery, and philosophical introspection—all orbiting around a central mystery buried in the attic of a haunted ancestral home. The premise is bold: a mirror-like machine (the Overmind) that connects minds across time through closed timelike loops and conscious memory. It's not just time travel—it's time travel through thought, and that’s where the book shines.
Amelia, as a protagonist, is easy to root for—curious, isolated, and smart. Her strained relationship with her mother is one of the book’s most emotionally resonant threads. The themes of inherited trauma, the loneliness of giftedness, and generational duty are explored with quiet elegance.
But while the ideas are rich, the execution isn’t always smooth. Several chapters drift into heavy exposition, where dialogue turns into philosophy lectures. Some characters (especially Thomas and Cassandra) feel more like narrative devices than real people, and the middle section meanders a bit too long before the momentum picks up again. There are moments where the novel feels like it’s aiming more to impress than to connect.
Still, I admire its originality and ambition. It’s clear the author is deeply invested in science and speculative concepts, and the literary tone is admirable—even if it occasionally slows the pace.
Highlights:
Unique concept: time travel through consciousness, not machinery
Emotional core grounded in family and loss
Atmospheric writing and eerie gothic setting
Drawbacks:
Overly dense in places
Some underdeveloped side characters
The plot can feel abstract or vague without clear stakes
Final Thoughts: Not a best novel, but certainly an interesting one. If you’re a fan of Dark, The OA, or Cloud Atlas—and don’t mind a slower, more cerebral pace—Amelia and the Mirror might be your kind of strange.
“A mind-bending journey through time, memory, and legacy—this is time travel reimagined through intellect and emotion.”
“Amelia and the Mirror” is not your usual time-travel sci-fi. Priyanshu Sharma crafts a cerebral and emotionally complex story where science, consciousness, and forgotten family secrets converge. The novel follows Amelia Forefore, a fiercely curious girl whose encounter with a mysterious monolith hidden in her ancestral manor propels her into a psychological journey through time and self.
What I appreciated most was how the story unfolds with restraint. It’s not flashy or action-heavy—instead, it digs deep into generational trauma, the loneliness of genius, and the cost of protecting those you love. The “Overmind” concept—part time machine, part consciousness gateway—was original and haunting.
However, the pacing in some middle chapters slowed a bit, and some philosophical sections leaned heavy on exposition. Yet the emotional weight, especially surrounding Amelia’s relationship with her mother and the legacy she inherits, kept me engaged.
If you enjoy stories like The Midnight Library meets Interstellar, but with a more personal, dreamlike atmosphere, this book will linger in your thoughts long after the final page.
Final Verdict: Beautifully written, thoughtful, and quietly powerful. A few slow patches, but worth the journey. 🔍 Recommended for fans of reflective sci-fi, dark academia, and stories where time itself becomes a character.
Amelia and the Mirror is a thrilling blend of time travel, family mystery, and extra-terrestrial intrigue — narrative that begins when Amelia is just 11 years old.
At its heart, the story is about a young girl who hears an otherworldly call — a voice that beckons her toward the unknown. But when she answers, her life changes in an instant. Sent away by a frightened mother who doesn’t understand, Amelia is thrust into a world full of secrets, loss, and cosmic mystery.
Parallel to her story is Ludvik, Amelia’s missing grandfather and a genius inventor working on a time travel device known as Cronos Gate. His sudden disappearance raises chilling questions. Did he succeed? Where did he go? And how is this connected to Amelia’s visions?
The book expertly weaves science fiction with emotional tension, using Amelia’s experiences to explore bigger questions: What if we’re meant for something beyond this world? What happens when we follow a calling no one else can hear?
With moments of wonder, fear, and revelation, Amelia and the Mirror offers a mysterious, compelling ride that’s equal parts heart and high concept.
🪞 What if the mirror didn’t reflect your face… but your forgotten future?
Amelia and the Mirror: The Origin by Priyanshu Sharma is a high-concept sci-fi fantasy adventure that blends Nikola Tesla’s final invention with cosmic warfare, fractured timelines, and the resilience of one unlikely heroine. In a world where memory is weaponized and dimensions bleed into each other, Amelia must reckon with her bloodline’s dangerous legacy—and decide whether she’ll be a gatekeeper… or a galactic catalyst.
With whispers of Foundation, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Dark, this Indie Ink Spotlight dives into a story where time is not linear, consciousness is not contained, and the ultimate battle is waged not just across space—but within.
Amelia and The Mirror is a beautifully illustrated and thoughtfully written tale that captures the wonder of childhood imagination. The author successfully blends fantasy with meaningful life lessons, making the story both entertaining and enriching for young readers. The pacing is gentle, and the language is accessible, yet rich in imagery, making it ideal for early readers and shared reading experiences.
One of the book’s strengths lies in its subtle emotional depth—it gently addresses themes like loneliness, self-worth, and courage without becoming heavy-handed. The mirror motif is cleverly used to symbolize introspection and transformation, offering a layered reading experience for adults as well.
Overall, Amelia and The Mirror is an enchanting story that encourages self-reflection, bravery, and creative thinking. It’s a delightful addition to any child’s bookshelf and a valuable tool for parents and educators seeking stories with emotional intelligence.
I really enjoyed reading Amelia and the Mirror. I like imaginary fiction a lot, and this book perfectly fits into that genre. The storyline is creative and full of magical twists that pull you into Amelia’s world right from the beginning.
I was excited to read this book, and as the story goes on, it becomes more and more gripping. The suspense and mystery kept me hooked, and I often found myself making time just to read a few more pages. The mirror as a portal to another world was such a fascinating idea, and the characters were well-developed and fun to follow.
Overall, it’s a wonderfully written story with a mix of adventure, fantasy, and emotion. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves imaginary fiction and enjoys getting lost in a magical story.
Would you like a shorter version or one written for a school assignment format?
Amelia and the Mirror had some really intriguing ideas! The blend of sci-fi and time travel, with a mysterious machine tied to the main character’s family manor, gave the story a unique atmosphere. The concept, while somewhat predictable, clearly had a lot of thought put into it, and I appreciated the author’s creativity.
That said, I did struggle with the overall pacing. The chapters felt disjointed at times, and the frequent timeline and character shifts made it tough to follow the narrative. There were also quite a few formatting issues that made the reading experience less smooth.
I wasn’t able to finish the book, but I still wanted to share my honest impressions based on what I did read. I think readers who enjoy slower, layered sci-fi with a bit of a fantasy twist might really appreciate this one—especially if they don’t mind a more abstract, nonlinear style.
{3.5 stars} A big thanks to the author for sending me this book!
I am not a big science fiction fan but this book won me over with its gripping story and really cool concepts. Time travel, alien creatures, shape-shifting enemies - it's got everything!
The story is expertly paced with manipulations and betrayals, heart-pumping action, emotional depth and a dash of humour. But what really stood out for me was the protagonist. She's strong, determined & unapologetic. I loved watching her unravel the mysteries of the past, navigate the missions and discoveries thrown her way.
The characters took some getting used to especially the complex alien species and their motivations but the appendix helped clarify things and I appreciate the touch it brought to the narrative.
Usually, I don't read sci-fi it's not a genre that I prefer. But I have to admit that I like it, it was interesting.
Amelia returns to her house after many years, and she discovers why her mother sent her away when she was a little girl. With her new friend Thomas, they will try to stop the villain and save the world.
I really enjoyed it. I liked Amelia's courage she's an interesting character. Now, let's talk about Thomas. This man is just amazing. Helpful and caring, he has helped Amelia since the beginning. Also, I liked the fact that the story goes back in time, and it shows us how it all started.
If you like time travel and aliens you should read this book.
Wow!! what an absolutely wild ride. I really really enjoyed this book!! I loved the banter, the sassy retorts and even the anxiety I experienced during the battle scenes.
I did wish this book was as focused on Ludvik, I very much enjoyed his story and found it very interesting, but I also found myself missing Amelia at times.
If you love Sci-Fi Fantasy... this book is for you!
Amelia, is a resilient and determined young woman who undergoes significant growth throughout the story. The narrative is filled with unexpected twists and surprises. I was so captivated from the start. Beneath the exhilarating adventure lies a deeper exploration of themes such as the essence of reality, the strength of love, and the value of perseverance. This depth of this well put together tale was exhilarating. Definitely made me imagine the possibilities of other realms.
This book was a bit out of my comfort zone since I don't normally read sci-fi. However I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to get into and I liked the dynamic between Amelia and her mother. Also i liked how the family secret was revealed and that we got to go back in time to see how her grandfather build the machine, even though it was sometimes a bit slow paced. While the ending felt a bit rushed to me.
But overall I did really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.
I give this book four stars! It started off slow, but once the action kicked in—it kicked. Gave me Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Men in Black vibes all rolled into one, with time travel, aliens, and a healthy dose of who the hell can I trust? The writing pulled me in deeper with every chapter. Definitely one to watch if you like sci-fi with suspense. 🚀👽📚 Can't wait for book two!

If you love science fiction, this book is a must-read. Time travel, alien creatures, shape shifting - it has it all. Amelia's story will draw you in. She is strong, determined, and unapologetic. One of my favorite parts was reading about Amelia's family past and how she navigates her missions. It's a story that's as magical as it is thought-provoking
This is a really interesting story, which the author has put so much thought into. I enjoyed Amelias character and plot from the start, but the plot was overshadowed with her grandfather's story. Good book for Sci-Fi readers.
