In another place, in another time, four men dance with destiny as they uncover what brotherhood truly means. Set in a fantastical medieval kingdom, The Brothers Fore is Jonny Bush’s first full-length novel inspired by the creatively rich universe of the band Ghost. With characters and themes familiar to many, this tale plunges deep into the dynamics of dysfunction as a father’s progeny fight to break the cycle of paternal deceit to reclaim fate for themselves.
So this is essentially published Ghost fanfiction and I appreciate that someone loves Ghost enough to actually publish a book based on the lore, so I had to give it a chance.
I knew the plot already since I know the lore (or at least I thought I did… before Tobias changed everything for no reason) but I loved the setting and the magic. I just wish we’d got to spend more time with each brother before he died 💔 Pereggio’s story made me SO sad and I love Stendwio and Matryios SO MUCH 😭
My biggest gripe is that I just wish this was… better written and edited 😭 I found several typos grammatical errors and random punctuation marks where they shouldn’t be. The story also drags in a lot of spots. But it’s okay because if you have Ghosts, you have everything ❤️
"Write a book that doesn't mention any of the personas in Ghost, but clearly involves those characters, and quote as many Ghost song lyrics as you can. And include excessive gore followed inexplicably by a fancy masquerade party and... oh yeah, some dancing zombies." Johnny Bush: "Sure, but can I include some of my drawings?"
I love Ghost. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Terzo gets me hot and I've read more AO3 smut than anyone should, but I did NOT like this. Why? Let's see: the typos and one particular character's comments that sound like he's breaking the 4th wall to get a laugh from the studio audience, the female characters that are written like non-player characters (Actual dialogue: Male: "Come" Female: "Again?" Male: "I meant come have a glass of wine with me."), and that the book itself took up so much space in my suitcase, but was printed triple spaced with big margins like a failing high school student's term paper. Oh and the wink wink reference to olive oil certain to make AO3 readers wince. And that there's just no point. Bad dude from the prologue does endless bad stuff and eventually pays for it. Creepy guy is actually a mama's boy, leaves in search of the sibling that was never previously mentioned in a contrived bid for a sequel.
If you're a fan, you'll feel compelled to buy this. But don't bother reading it. Just put it on the shelf with your RHRN commemorative popcorn bucket.
I’ll probably try it again, but I DNF after the ballroom scene. I liked it in the beginning, but the plot fell off and never got up. Is the plot in the room with us? It was like waiting for a punchline that never came. Also, was this properly proofread or edited? (I understand self published is not a perfect editing system, but there is an editor credited right?) Certain scenes, wording, phrases, even character interactions or motives did not flow right. I liked the concept and was so excited to read it, but sadly it was disappointing.
I got this book as a birthday present and it hit the mark.
If you are a fan of ghost, this book is a must have in my opinion. I have been a fan since their first album and have been really invested into their story.
So this book, inspired by the lore of the band, is like a love letter to the band. The tiny nods to the ghost songs were amazing and k am sure other ghost fans will love it too.
It is very well written, illustrations in the book are beautiful.
It made me laugh, it made me cry. It will definitely make you tear up.
solid book, it also felt like a roller-coaster while reading . I'm a big ghost fan and was excited to hear that there was a book loosely based on the lore. this book at some points did not feel like 500 pages. i did laugh a lot at this book and some of the lyrics randomly strewn were kind of silly , but also had some really good worldbuilding and quotes. and aion is the best character in this book. but i would recommend it though
A must read for any Ghost fan. The story is inspired by the lore of Ghost and as a fan I throughly enjoyed the authors take on it. Ghost fans will love the nods to ghost songs and lore scattered through the book. Even non ghost fans I feel would enjoy the story written.
The characters in the story are very similar but different to who inspired them, and I loved reading about their interactions with each other and getting flash backs to them growing up. I would have loved to see more of their childhood hopefully the author will write a prequelle :D
The book made me laugh out loud in parts and cry in others. I was invested in the characters and was shocked by the twists and plots. Very well written and I look forward to the next one when it gets released.
just found out this author uses ai without apology. explains the shitty plot and questionable typos that riddle this slop.
also the olive oil AO3 smut references were so corny immediately takes u outta the book. do not even get me started on the breaking the fourth wall bullshit. super fucking weird will not be finishing.
Didn’t know what to expect besides it being based off of Ghost (one of my favorite bands) but I LOVED it! It was right up my alley and honestly non Ghost fans could very well enjoy this book as it has its own story to it. I highly recommend it for all!
I loved it so much it's different from ghost. But the same too. It had an amazing plot line, made me laugh and cry and the references are amazing. It was a blast
