From the author of How to Survive at the End of the The third installment of a story of triumph against all odds—in a world where everything is odd.

When Matt was first sent to Gaia—a lifeless garden planet that had been consumed by system meddling—his only goal was to stay alive. Through a combination of grit, ingenuity, and a lot of help from his guardian, Lucy, he’s managed to not only survive the worst but also thrive in a way that’s revived the original Gaians.

Now, others need Matt’s help as well. He once had a choice between Gaia and Ra’Zor, also known as the “Realm of One Thousand Bleedings.” He picked Gaia, but these days Ra’Zor is calling to him. Teleporting to the new planet, he finds himself at rock bottom in terms of both power and knowledge.

The challenges don’t stop there. Ra’Zor is replete with hosts of demons who kill humans without mercy, led by a demon lord who’s nigh invincible. For the humans’ part, the masterminding Church seems to have an agenda of its own . . . one that doesn’t exactly sit right with Matt. On the other hand, the system running the planet seems to really, really like him. And that’s what scares him the most.

The third volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than two million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

Title: Deadworld Isekai 3 (Deadworld Isekai #3)

Author: R.C. Joshua

Genre: LitRPG / Isekai / Sci‑Fi Adventure

Overview of Deadworld Isekai #3:

In this third installment, protagonist Matt departs from revitalized Gaia and plunges into Ra’Zor—the brutal “Realm of One Thousand Bleedings.” Stripped of power and knowledge, he must navigate a demon-infested planet, unravel the machinations of a secretive Church, and confront a nearly invincible Demon Lord, all while grappling with the system’s unnerving favor toward him.

Story Progression & World-Building

Book 1 introduced us to a lifeless Gaia and survival-driven gameplay—Matt struggled simply to stay alive. Book 2 saw him not just adapt but rebuild, gaining allies, establishing a foothold, and reviving life. In #3, there’s a clear tonal and thematic shift: no longer fighting for survival, Matt quests for purpose and justice on Ra’Zor. The narrative skyrockets in scale, pitting him against demons, dogma, and divine-like systems.

Character & System Development

Early books focused on Matt’s tactical ingenuity and gritty growth in a barren world. Here, his character deepens—he questions morality, authority, and the system itself. The system becomes more than a stat allocator—it grows semi-sentient, protective, even worrisome. His companion Lucy also steps into the background, letting Matt shoulder more ethical weight.

Pacing & Stakes

While books 1–2 balanced survival with exploration, #3 shifts to high-octane, mission-driven storytelling. The stakes intensify—facing a Demon Lord and a conspiracy within the Church raises tension. The story finally hits its stride here, with a sense of real narrative propulsion and little risk of stagnation.

Tone & Emotional Depth

Though maintaining its humor and upbeat narration, #3 incorporates more emotional investment. Readers are given stronger character dynamics and deeper personal stakes. Matt isn’t just surviving anymore; he’s choosing sides in a morally complex conflict.

World Expansion

From Gaia’s origin-recovery arc to Ra’Zor’s dark, demon-scorched realm, the worldbuilding has broadened significantly. New factions, high-level threats, and mysterious religious forces provide both rich lore and the promise of deeper plots in future volumes.

“Matt is now faced with a peaceful life of boredom and not being needed. So he goes planet hopping… The story finally hits its stride… exceeded my expectations based on books 1 and 2.”
Strengths: Escalated stakes and expanded scope—demon lords, conspiracies, spiritual challenges. Matt’s growth shifts from mere survival to moral leadership. Pacing remains brisk and engaging, with fewer low-stakes filler chapters. Weaknesses: The system’s favoritism toward Matt may risk plot armor clichés. Some players of the series may miss Gaia’s survival grit in exchange for epic quest arcs.

Series Comparison Summary:

Book 1: Survival & System — a lone man in a dead world, learning to game existence. Book 2: Growth & Community — building, thriving, reconnecting with life. Book 3: Purpose & Conflict — choosing sides, challenging power, embracing destiny.

Conclusion:

Deadworld Isekai 3 intelligently advances the series—raising the emotional stakes, leveling up worldbuilding, and deepening Matt’s internal conflict. If Books 1–2 were establishing his survival and capability, #3 is where he becomes a real force for change. While the shift to broader conflict may not please all fans, it delivers a satisfying escalation with fresh challenges and greater depth.

We veered off into a new direction with this one. So instead of dealing with the actual dead world, Matt decides to take a leveling-vacation off-world, makes friends, kills a ton of demons, and generally upends the System there.

Pretty standard isekai OR LitRPG for this book. The charms that hooked me on the previous two suddenly went all generic, though. Not that that's a horrible thing. LitRPGs in general ARE pretty boilerplate when you get down to it, but we tend to LIKE what they keep feeding us, so we keep coming back for more.

But really? I'm now just following THIS one for the OP goodness and the continuing characters and the craziness that ensues.

Personal note:
If anyone reading my reviews is be interested in reading my SF (Very hard SF, mind you), I'm open to requests.

fun

Matt is now faced with a peaceful life of boredom and not being needed. So he goes planet hopping. He leave Gaia for Ra’zor. There he faces demons and reunites with Derek. He learns the truth of the Church and becomes a fugitive. His only hope of defeating the Church and freeing the reincarnators’ guardians is to take out the Demon Lord. He does. Then he takes out the Church and frees the guardians. He heads home triumphant with a new friend in tow. Book ends.

Still wonderfully humorous and fast paced. Great System, antics and all. Interesting world and characters. Wonderful read I didn’t want to put down and was saddened that it ended. I look forward to the next book.

It's good

This is a great conclusion to the series. Plenty of action if anything. It's the best book of the series because the author was able to build on everything before and also having the main character transfer to a world that wasn't dead. Made him have a lot more potential opponents and Friends enemies and just more interesting. Overall, I highly recommend this book, but I also feel that you should read the first two books in the series to get the most out of it, but you don't have to. You can walk into this knowing nothing about the first two books and still really enjoy it. I hope this review helps. I apologize for any spelling errors and writing this review with voice to text

Thank you

I really enjoyed this book for the emotional aspects, if that makes sense. In a series about a dead world, I felt a lot more depth than most series published on KU lately. I really appreciate this series, as well as the author's note at the end.

Thank you, R. C. Joshua, for the entertaining dialogue and minimal plot holes in a relatively emotional story. It meant a lot to me, at the very least. I will be early anticipating the next series you make 😝

Book three

I read this entire story on Royalroad as it was being written and just wanted to help the author out with this quick little review.
It's a different kind of story about how a hero is sent to a dead world and how the MC struggles to bring the planet and it's people back while the system actively tries to kill everything a second and final time.

Magically Brilliant!

It was exactly what I hoped it would be. Funny, charming, light-hearted, and a good read. The character development is phenomenal, and Matt is easily a top character for me. The author knows how to write a story that draws you in and keeps you invested. Rooting for a main character has never been easier. 10/10

The story finally hits its stride here and moves very well. Not sure if this is the end, but it ends well if so. Exceeded my expectations based on books 1 and 2; they were by no means bad, but risked getting boring. This book has no such problem.

Is This The End?

I think this is a good place to end the series. But I'm not sure if this is the last book. No more have been published, so we'll have to see. But I did really enjoy this Isekai. Well done.

another great book in the series

Our hero and his guardian end up in a new world meeting old friends and enemies. A little less introspective than previous books with great action.

Gaia wasn't the center of the universe this book and it worked well. Cool new characters and a decent enough bad guy(s). 👍🏽👍🏽
