Now I will start by saying the story it’s self I liked it. The characters very likable mostly. But let me tell you if I have to read one more time about “I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.” I was totally going to throw the kindle across the room. Excessive use of the phrase all I got to say.
I did like the story but it seem stiff in ways,I'm not sure how to put it.Andrew steps in and marries Emily after his brother backs out.So he saves the hotels that she is trying to save but doesn't have the funds to do so.But the marriage is in name only but they work together to make the hotels their dream but it comes a cost,he still suffers from better in the service and Emily is a holding a very big secret from her husband. He tries to help her get her apartment ready to sell but it does it has a surprise but when she fines out her feelings are hurt that he went behind her back and didn't talk over any changes before they were made,he finds away to make it up to her. Everything seems to be working out for them, they are getting to know each other, getting closer, they feel the changes until she decides to tell him her secret but before she can everyone's life changes, her secert is out and it breaks them apart, his feelings are hurt,he feels lied to,not loved if at all. They get time apart and it helps in away,it makes them stand back and see what was missing. This story does have a happy ending! It's a story of dreams, hopes and love and trying to make a dream come true even at a cost of losing love.
I liked the story line and the author can visually take you there, but the book has a substantial amount of errors. A couple of gramatical errors which I overlooked because I was intrigued by the story. I was very annoyed by how Jacks wife name went from Sarah to Susan. I also did not like the ordeal surrounding Ace; how did he make his daughter and wife promise not to tell anyone about his condition if he was in a coma? How can you keep someone in a coma with a nurse at home without doctor supervision? That did not seem very realistic. The author did very well with story development with both main characters and I did enjoy the story. My recommendation to the author is for her to read each chapter before writing the next chapter if she is not going to use an editor. It’s a cute story, when you overlook the errors.
This is a very fast read, but a bit unhinged. Emily is trying to save her father’s hotel business. She is set to marry Daniel in an arranged marriage to get a cash infusion. Daniel bails so his brother Andrew steps in. Emily and Andrew are both very business driven. He is hiding PTSD and she is hiding that her dad is in a coma. The characters are compelling. It’s a fast read with spicy scenes. The pacing is a bit off and some of the action doesn’t entirely make sense. My biggest issue is how no one knew her dad was in a coma. Like everyone just believes he’s traveling and hasn’t been seen for months on end. It doesn’t make sense to keep it from Andrew and his family after they get married. It’s great if you want a fast read and can suspend disbelief. The author definitely has potential.
Honestly, the betrayal that occurs is not that serious. Spoilers ahead- she lied because it was her father’s wish. She was stuck between a rock and hard place. Would I be upset? Yes. Would I ditch her and go no contact and harden my heart right after her dad’s death and stretch it for 2 months? No way. He showed zero empathy or the slightest bit of understanding. Basically left her to grieve, barely spoke to her at the friggin funeral then ignored her for 2 months. When she came for her things he said he thought it was best and had the nerve to say “I thought I knew you”. Seriously? Be upset, express your upset but what happened was way over the top. And all she says is “I understand”. When he decides to pop up and apologize, immediate acceptance by Emily. Good grief.
Lightweight, unrealistic escapism that somehow also manages to have characters who feel like real people? It sounds like a big ask, but this book manages to strike that balance. Mega rich people marrying for business is hardly the basis for romance, but sparks fly and feelings happen. The spice was fairly spicy (I’d give it maybe 2/5 chillies) and the emotional details the author gave for the characters helped to make a silly plot become a really good read. Bittersweet HEA too, which was unexpected but kind of lovely.
This book was not for me. For starters, the chemistry between the main couple was lacking from the get go. I did not feel even the faintest spark with them. Emily hiding her father's illness from the world, and mainly Andrew seemed pointless for me. Then out of nowhere Daniel is upset that his bother married the girl he jilted and wants her back. GTFOH! I kept hoping something would spark some sort of reaction from me but alas, it did not.
Read this after seeing it on a FB pop up ad and it was readable but I don’t think I’ll be rushing to read any others in the series just yet. I get she promised her Dad she wouldn’t say anything but it was a bit of a joke. If Andrew and Emily actually just spoke to each other, they wouldn’t have had nearly as many issues. I thought this would be a nice easy read with a sweet love story and a HEA but it just didn’t hit the spot for me.
The first book I am reading by this author and loved the storyline. What started off as a contract marriage ended up being a love story. I loved both characters and the way the story evolved. No spoilers from me and will definitely read more of Elara books.
The editing of this book was hard to get through. At one point the character Sarah was called Susan which confused me. Had to go back to make sure I hadn't misread the name. Maybe having someone proof read would help. But I did enjoy the story.
It lacked character development and was a bit stilted and clinical through most of it. Not a lot of emotional investment before claiming to love each other. It got more emotional towards the end, but still felt lacking.
