Have you ever wandered or been thrust into any periods of wilderness in your life and faith journey? I invite you to be part of this journey.

I love how the author tied in chapters from the Psalms to her lessons about the wildernesses of life. I have been through more than one trip of wandering in the wilderness and those trips had me clinging to the Psalms.

In Chapter 1, through the story of John the Baptist, we are encouraged to recognize God’s strength. We all have circles of influence. We are encouraged to minister to others who are within those circles.

I loved the author’s thoughts on how time spent in the wilderness could be preparing us for future ministry. I have found this to be true in my own life, more than once. I like to call this being a good steward of our experiences. We must keep our hearts, minds and eyes open to the possibilities.

Throughout this Bible study, the author asked really good, thought provoking and soul searching questions. And, I must say that I absolutely loved the closing Benediction. It is a reminder of God’s goodness as we are sent on our own journey with these beautiful blessings.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from IVP through NetGalley. All thoughts expressed in this review are mine. This book will be available on May 20, 2025.

This six-week Bible study invites you to find God’s presence and purpose in seasons of uncertainty. Through Scripture, reflection, and guided teaching, it reveals how the wilderness—though painful and disorienting—can become a sacred place of growth, dependence, and renewed faith when we allow God to meet us there.

You do not need to be in the middle of the “wilderness” to be impacted by this Bible study. I really appreciated how Kristel prompted us to reflect on the past, acknowledge the present, and trust God for the future. She’s not only gifted at teaching what Scripture says, but this study equally focuses on how Scripture should disciple us, molding us deeper into Christlikeness—especially since Jesus went through the wilderness himself!

I also can’t go without mentioning how beautifully Kristel’s love and appreciation for multicultural ministry and immigration weaves throughout the study. You’ll walk through the wilderness of oppression, sin, distraction, despair, and temptation, all while naturally encountering her personal journey and values.

Though I’d say this Bible study would be strongest in a group setting, I still enjoyed completing it on my own. There is one weekly group session and five individual sessions, with the fifth day focusing primarily on reflection for the past week. I simply treated the study like a six-day study, doing the group session on my own as “day one” of that week.

Thank you @kristelace for sending me your Bible study! You are such a gifted teacher and writer—I can’t wait to grow from your next study.
