Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.

There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.

Death Note has always been one of my all-time favorite manga series, and reading it again in the new Diamond Edition has only deepened my love for it, it is nice to look at and the story inside is amazing. My original volumes have been through a lot over the years, so I decided to treat myself to this beautiful hardcover edition—and I couldn't be happier.

It's been a while since I last read the series, and this reread reminded me just how good the early chapters are, they catch your attention right away. The Diamond Edition covers what I believe to be volumes 1 and 2, spanning chapters 1 through 16. Even though I'm still waiting for Misa to appear :c, just seeing early Light in action again is amazing. His calculated descent into madness makes him such a good villain, and the psychological duel between him and L is already starting.

While I consider L, Light, and Ryuk protagonists—Death Note wouldn't be Death Note without Ryuk—The characters in this volume that I really liked were; Raye Penber, Naomi Misora, and Touta Matsuda. Naomi, in particular. I am looking forward to seeing a lot more Matsuda especially when they all interact together.

Review Buku: Death Note – New Edition Vol. 1

Seit wann? Hat doch vorher nie ne Rolle gespielt?!

Having a cousin who reads comics is cool because you can borrow their comics 😆

It's so nostalgic to read this comic now. I remember watching the live action back in high school with my sister and the story was mindblowing.

L is smart, but I gotta say, Light is a total genius in this game.

Tanpa basa-basi, langsung gas sejak awal. Cerita suspense memang harus seperti ini. Komik edisi tebal biasanya membosankan, walaupun ceritanya bagus. Tapi manga ini beda. Page turner.
