Shifter Cub Camp #2

Pegasus Summer

Rate this book
She's the only human counselor at a summer camp for shifters...

Paige isn’t looking forward to spending her summer trying to wrangle kids who can turn into animals. But no matter her own feelings, family comes first. This job is the only way she can afford to send her little brother Archie back to camp this year - and now, more than ever, he has to get better control of his bear.

All she has to do is keep her head down, work hard, and make sure Archie doesn’t get distracted from his shifting lessons. There’s just one problem, and it’s six foot five and wearing a suit. The charismatic, confident, devastatingly attractive camp manager… who’s her little brother’s worst enemy.

This was not part of his plan

A high-flying (literally) executive is the last person you'd expect to find running a summer camp. But pegasus shifter Conleth is always exactly where he means to be, and firmly in control.

Or at least, he was.

Paige and Archie are in trouble, and Conleth's determined to help them both. But she doesn't even know fated mates exist, let alone that he's hers. It'll take careful planning to win her heart - especially since her little brother hates his guts.

Though if the other campers figure out what’s going on, a suspicious, overprotective ten-year-old bear shifter might be the least of Conleth’s problems…

Welcome to back to Cub Camp. It’s going to be another wild summer…

Pegasus Summer
is a laugh-out-loud, slow burn, fated mates romance with a human heroine in her late twenties and a quippy, morally gray shifter with a few secrets of his own. Each book in the Shifter Cub Camp series is a complete romance following a different couple, with no cliffhangers; however, the series should be read in order.

Not as good as the first one in this series but I have deeply fallen for this camp.
I had my problems with both Conleth (remembering that name was hard, I had never heared of it before outside of Zoe Chant's books) and Paige. Also, this book comes with whole lot of Archie which is kinda exhausting. But it was still really good and I loved it. I'm really looking forward to Leonie's story (coming in 2025). It even took me by surprise a couple times. Hetta's animal for example - I never would have guessed it! Or the ending for Paige's family.
If you're into paranormal romance and don't mind instalove (or the word "mate") - you might want to look into Zoe Chant's books.

This shifter romance was hilarious! The cutest shifter kids at a summer camp set to help their teachers get mated, because adults can't be trusted to do things right xD The results are disastrous, as can be expected, lol. The MCs were great, and seeing their get together was so rewarding. The secondary characters were awesome, too! Definitely an addictive series with unique types of shifters, heat, and laughs!

I loved this book; it was so much fun! I laughed out loud several times, it really held my attention well, and I loved the way things came together in the end. The book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. The editing could have been better; there were quite a few typos. I considered dropping a star from my rating because of that, but I loved the book so much and the typos didn’t distract from the story so I kept it at 5 stars.

I have all the mixed feelings about this instalment of the Shifter Cub Camp series, and I enjoyed it both more and less than Book 1.

On the plus side: I think I liked Paige and Conleth as individual characters more than I liked Buck and Honey, and I loved the fact that we have both explicit ADHD and autism rep in the book (the word 'autistic' was never used for Rufus in Book 1 - we just knew he was non-verbal and liked routine, so I figured he was autistic-coded, but in this instalment, we actually get the label too). Also? I pretty much called .

On the minus side: I started to get seriously annoyed with Beth and Estelle in a way I didn't in Book 1. I found the whole 'kids making it their mission to get the main couple together' thread got very old very quickly - I know there are probably a lot of readers that would find it cute and funny, but I - alas - am not one of them. And I also don't know how I feel about . Not to mention the whole plot with Paige and Archie's mother - on the one hand, it added some definite emotional complexity to the plot, but on the other .

This ended up being somewhere between a high 3-star and a low 4-star read for me - I went with the higher rating because of the ND-rep.

Love and fate

I loved, loved Conleth and Paige’s fated mates coworkers romance. It is a fun and swoony story full of friendship, love, danger, drama, silliness, misunderstandings, and magic. As told through the minds and hearts of Conleth and Paige who are real, relatable people with flaws, but who are really trying to just do their best as messy imperfect beings. Conleth is a Pegasus shifter who has ADHD. He’s a camp manager for Camp Thunderbird, a shifter summer camp. He agreed to work there five years ago based on a “prophecy” that he would meet his faded mate there. Paige is a human who will be a camp counselor in order to pay for her bear shifter brother, Archie, to go to camp and learn to control his shift. Conleth knows the moment he sees Paige that she is his fated mate. The problem is Archie hates Conleth and will do anything to keep Paige away from him. The two follow the twisting road to their HEA while continuing to deal with their own issues, corral a gaggle of shifter children, and deal with the camper’s attempts to interfere in their love lives. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline as shown through sweet moments, spicy scenes, laughs, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, secrets, revelations, and all the heart squeezing love. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Summer Loving

Paige was nervous about her summer job as a camp counsellor. The special camp for shifter children made her a bit anxious as she was to be the only non-shifter working there. It was not her idea of fun but she was doing it for her brother Archie, a bear. Since starting to shift he had a lot of trouble controlling his bear cub. Any emotion and puff, his clothes were in tatters. Paige knew that this was possibly his only chance to learn to control his animal before he exposed himself at school. There'd been a few close shaves. The camp was too expensive for her mother and her but hearimg of their predicament the directors were willing to let her pay off his fee by working. She just hoped being a mere human she didn't let the side down. Archie was excited so she hid her fears. She pulled back her shoulders and pulled in a sharp breath in shock. One of the other workers was staring at her agog. He was unbelievably handsome and muscular as most shifters seemed to be. The staff all resembled a modelling agency more than a summer camp but this man was hot. But why was he wearing a suit?Who was he and why was she reacting to him like a teenager? Oh boy, this was not going to make her job any easier.

WONDERFULLY ENTERTAINING STORY!!!💙💙💙💙💙

What a fun story this was. All of the characters were so funny and quirky! You didn't know what was going to happen next in this amazingly entertaining book. There were no dull moments just non-stop pranks, unexpected happenings, heartfelt moments, some suspense and lots and lots of humor!! I laughed out loud many times and startled my cat!! The relationship between Paige and Conleth was really heartwarmingly romantic, steamy and sweet right from the first meeting. The young campers were a hoot. They stuck their noses into everything in an attempt to be match makers with hilarious results!!! There were so many unusual and loveable characters it is hard to choose one I loved the most they were all so adorable!! This story had one of the most perfect endings.....it was surprising but oh so perfect!!! I highly recommend this book. Once you start you will be so caught up with all the crazy and endearing things going on you won't be able to put it down!!😇

How amazing was to go back to Cub Camp.
And I guess due to my recent ADHD diagnosis I can appreciate this book even more, the way this author put the neuro divergent traits on her characters and how they thrive and find support in their families and friends is something that I have loved since the beginning, I have read if not all, pretty much the majority of the books in this universe and seeing familiar faces and little cameos here and there was really cute, Conleth was a surprise but nothing compared to Paige she is such a strong character but also the fierce way she loves her own and protects them is admirable and Archie, Archie my little baby, I felt all the angst every single one of them felt, and the banter in between everyone from the smallest to the oldest. I cannot wait for the next one, I will be sitting here waiting, wishing I could also go to Cub Camp, please someone tell Lord Golden that I want his permission to attend!

Keeps you guessing until the very end!

Conleth is managing the shifter camp to make sure it is still running when his niece gets old enough to go. Paige is there to help her brother learn to control his shifting into a bear. See what happens when they meet and he realizes she is his mate! And then she realizes her brother can't stand him! How can they get past this? With a lot of interference... Um help...from the campers!

The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain with a character oriented storyline that has a few steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and engaging. Read at least these 2 in order, but to really get the most from this series, read Fire and Rescue Shifter series in order first, then Fire & Rescue Shifters Friends and Family and then Wildfire Crew before reading these 2 books. I can't wait until the next book comes out!

I’m in the minority review wise but I found this dragged on overlong and seemed a bit unrealistic.
Plus the behaviour of some of the children was just too OTT for me.
The whole Paige is human, oh let’s suddenly change that outcome moment was weird.
Plus Paige and Archie’s mum was seriously screwed up, but let’s quickly sort that out too.
So too long overall and quick resolutions to problems.
Though I did like how special and specific behavioural problems, both Conleath’s, Archie’s and others, were discussed, handled and treated.
Life is not always easy to explain for those with issues. Having two children with different difficulties, I appreciated how it was dealt with.
Read through KU.
Not sure I’ll read more as I still dislike Buck’s rude attitude and it seems the children are going to be causing more hassles.

Really enjoyed this one! It made me laugh a lot, including a couple times so hard that I woke my family up in the middle of the night. The humor is a bit dry, and that's exactly my type of humor.

This is a slow burn, and I loved the younger shifters POVs of them doing their best to get these two together even when it went in complete opposition to what they (or others) were trying to do. This book was a riot. If you can imagine a summer camp for shifters where the adults often need supervision too, that's what you'll get.

This book also has some family drama that ends in strengthened bonds, which is a fave.

Also loved the twist at end. I didn't see it coming and I should have, but I thought the other other twist that also happened would be it.

Conleth has his work cut out 4 him. Archie don't like the idea of his sister possibly being his mate. He will do anything he can 2 prevent things from happening but can conleth convince everyone he's not a bad guy and he get what he's dreamed about 4 so long? With so called help from Beth and the others it might not b a good thing 4 help cause that help could go with way. They find secrets along the way with Archie's mom and her past along with other mysterious things. Can everything b fixed rt in x? Read and decide. I loved it. I was surprised in a few spots especially between Archie and conleth.

Pegasus Summer #2 03/25/2025

Conleth is the manger for the summer camp he is watching all the counselors arrive a day before the kids show up. There’s a new one Page she is going to work the summer so he brother can come back to camp. But Archie has told her the rules because she just human and he definitely doesn’t want her getting mating fever. But that’s just what happens. The minute Conleth sees her he knows here is his fated mate and Archie isn’t having any of that because he’s not going to lose his sister. So enjoy the read and see what trouble Archie causes to keep them apart but does it work?

Very entertaining

Great character development. I didn't start w the first book in the series but getting to know the kids and everyone else was easy and fun. The banter between everyone was funny and believable. You can tell some of them have known each other for years. I appreciate that the author took the time to do that bc it's easy to make shallow characters that don't really matter. I cared about what happened to them. I also appreciated the twists and turns in the storyline and the mystery of Hetta! This really was a lot of fun to read; one of those stories you think about at work and want to get home to. I'm definitely going to check out more from this author

I swear the book made me feel old and curmudgeonly. The camp kids in the last book were a little much but I still really liked it and them over all. In this book they all seemed extra over the top nosy, manipulative and bratty. Every time they did something it was glossed over and no one ever told them ‘no’, ‘stop this crap’ or ‘mind your own business!’.
Thankfully the ending made it very clear that in bk 3 of the series they were going to ramp it up even more so I’m going to wait to read it until I’ve forgotten how annoying I found them.

Side note to the author, repeatedly calling one of the campers a ‘stocky girl’ and only that is pretty sh!tty.

Winner, winner chicken dinner! Lots of laughs.

Another great showing for our favorite campers, this book has it all. Wow, it just keeps getting better. It's our favorite camp manager's turn to find summer love. Paige is the perfect match to go up against this grumpy camper. You will fall in love with these characters and this story has some highs and lows. It does deal with some heavy subject matter but in the end it is worth the lows to get to the happy ending. Read this one or start at the beginning either way winner, winner chicken dinner. Lol

Conleth and Paige’s story was a joy to read. Conleth recognizes Paige as his mate immediately but not only is she human but her baby brother Archie hates him. Paige just wants to focus on Archie’s shifting because it really stresses their mother who is already dealing with chronic depression. Conleth’s plans just made me laugh, as did the kids trying to help. I like how this book prioritized family, didn’t shy away from mental illness and neurodivergence. I love how the mini saga about their mum wrapped up and just the whole book gave warm and fuzzies.

Brilliant Series

Pegasus Summer (Shifter Cub Book 2) by Zoe Chant and Helen Kestral. Bear shifter Archie is back at Shifter Cub camp and his big sister Paige is with him as a councillor. When Pegasus shifter Conleth meets Paige he knows she is his mate but she doesn’t realise as she’s human and Archie actively hates the idea because it might mean it takes his big sister away from the family and Archie’s fertile brain ,with the help of the other kids, comes up with plenty of ways to keep them apart.

One of my favorites of 2024 so far!! Like everyone else, I was so excited when Conleth's book finally got here .. and it did not disappoint!

Characters are written so well, that you just can't help but fall in love with them. There are so many laugh-out-loud parts in this book, but the thing I was most impressed with was how well the ADHD part of the story was handled. Not having experience with it myself, I've struggled to understand it. It was so beautifully handled in this story.

Now the wait begins for the Leonie's book ...

Very entertaining!

This is one of my favorite series! I can’t wait until book #3 comes out! It’s an entertaining combination of kids versus adults with humor, romance and “wild” animals all mixed in! Growing, learning to accept one’s self, and working as a team. I love all of the repeat characters from book to book. How the characters interact and bond through out the book makes for fun entertaining plot twists.

Ok, Helen Kestral's shifter romances are the best. It starts with the Firefighter series, then their kids in the Wildfire series, and now this series, the Cub Camp, features side characters from the Wildfire series meeting their mates while surrounded by shifter kids. Great, funny dialog and the kids are not depicted as stupid.

Cute, charming, silly, heartwarming, plus a hunky guy and sassy woman getting together. Just what you're looking for in a shifter romance.

always ZOE

Another one in the can! So cute those lil ruffians.. kids just don’t know when to stop, do they? So the campers are still up to their meddling ways such yentas!
And does rangvald have a baby Cthulhu in a jar? That is not good!
Lord golden bigoted butthead I really wish he would just be exposed that in reality he is just a tiny itty bitty dragon or a fire ant!! That is more suitable!

This one made me laugh and I really needed that bit of healing from humor. Helen (aka Zoe Chant) has an easy style with her dialogue - it flows naturally. Her characters are each distinctive unlike some series where you get a repeat of other work with minor changes. I thoroughly enjoyed this and read it in one sitting. Recommend.

It's been a while since we last visited Cub Camp, but it was worth the wait. I laughed so hard throughout this book. The kids are absolutely hysterical. With all the humor, we still get just as much romance. New characters and some old favorites. Conleth and Paige were perfect together. His interactions with Archie were priceless. A 'Zoe' book never disappoints me. A must read!

What a fun story

The kids sure got up to a lot of no good! What happened to Conlith's mate was so unexpected! I really like all of the surprises in the story. You just never knee when a new surprise would happen. I enjoy the cub camp stories a lot. Visiting with the hot shots was fun as well. Looking forward to the next story.

Another fun book with a few twists and surprises. Did not see them coming. Loved seeing the campers come together. These books always make you laugh and smile. They are easy and a very fast read to keep one entertained. Getting to see Callum finally get his mate was well worth the wait.

I struggled with the first half of this one. I think it was supposed to be funny, but I found it hysterical and ridiculous. Fortunately it calmed down for the second half. The story itself was almost like one of those kids summer camp movies trying to target adults. And I don't see how that could ever be a success.

I have loved this book and the characters. I have to say Archie is my favourite character, he is mischievous and lovable at the same time. He gives the main character a few headaches. The ending was a surprise, the book is well written and the characters come to life on the pages. I can’t wait for Tiger summer to come out. I’ve tried to pre order but cannot find it at the moment.

Amazing

I love all these books set in the Fire and Rescue world! Book two of Shifter Cub Camp is no exception. I love Conleth and Paige. The kids are such fun. I love seeing the characters from other books. This author does such an amazing job of weaving together romance and humor. If you haven't read any of these books you need to.

Great Addition To An Already Great Series

I've read both Firefighter Shifters, Wildfire Shifters, and the first in the adorable sequel series in Shifter Cub Camp, and can't complain one bit. It's a great story with all the kid shenanigans combined with beloved characters. Highly recommend it and can't wait for the next story.
