REVIEW
The world is a crazy place – so much so, it’s often difficult to get a grip on what’s happening; that, or you simply get overwhelmed. Being a big follower of the news and the sort of person who wants to know what’s going on, I found this book, Where are we Going and are we Nearly There Yet? by Paul Hodson utterly fascinating. Admittedly, it’s a bit of a brick – but, hey, there’s a lot to cover, the author grappling with a huge number of subjects, from Childhood, Family, and Parenting to being a Global Citizen.
So, what did I enjoy the most? Firstly, I liked the accessibility of the writing style. Mr Hodson is looking at a number of complex subjects, but he still keeps it understandable, even to a laymen like me. Secondly, although the world is a bit depressing, there’s still an ‘optimistic’ feel to this book; that it’s not all doom and gloom. And that we, as humans, as part of everything, can change so much – if we want to. Thirdly, I loved how comprehensive in scope the book is. It’s simply full of facts I’d forgotten or never even knew - Kenyan democracy or the lack thereof, for example. And the way China seems to do everything in a different way to the rest of the world – and why.
So, if you happen to be looking for a thought-provoking book on world politics, history, cultural development, globalism etc. etc. - it’s a very long list – that’s written in an energetic, accessible way, this book is for you. I suspect most readers will find a lot to ponder over within this book, and it might help many to better understand the world, where it’s going, and what it’ll look like when we get there.
