After all we’ve been through together, I can’t believe it’s time to say goodbye to Ryll and her unforgettable crew. No more Axel, Wilder, Stone, Harper, Ren, Sky, Elizabeth, Penelope, Mei, or Constantin (yes, our new honorary Daedalus!). Parting is bittersweet, but wow, what a sendoff.
As their enemies close in, the stakes are higher than ever. But let’s lead with the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Our broody, bossy Stone has finally cracked and joined the steamy fun! So, with all her “boys” by her side (and in her bed), Ryll can focus on taking down her enemies with a bold and daring plan. But in true Daedalus fashion, victory isn’t easily earned. For every step forward, there’s a maddening step back. With Blaine and Luther joining forces and calling in favors from those still willing to help, the number of enemies is growing and they’re not playing fair, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Ryll and her team. The pages literally flow with blood as the Daedalus crew fight through every battle. Yet, every time it seems Blaine and Luther’s days are numbered, they slip away to cause ever more mischief. The tension was palpable, the action relentless, and the twists- completely bonkers in the best way. I loved the tie-in to Casey’s Nympho series, with Slater playing a key role in Ryll’s master plan. In fact, all the side characters had their role to play. I could gush about them for hours, though I have to admit Sky still grated on my nerves (even if I get where she’s coming from). As for Axel, Wilder, and Stone? They’ve never been sexier, though I did miss a bit of Stone’s trademark scowls and broodiness. That said, this final installment wasn’t without its WTF moments starting with Ryll’s dramatic rescue at the beginning, which couldn’t have been more unbelievable if it tried. And what was this Brotherhood of Archimedes, with their almost-supernatural abilities. It felt like Casey was cranking the volume up to 11 and wanted to squeeze every last idea she had for the series into this final book. Was it a bit much at times? Sure. Did I care? Not really. Despite the eye-rolling, head-scratching moments, Casey brought it all home beautifully. Ryll stepped into her rightful place, and Havensea and Daedalus Inc are finally poised for a brighter future. Long live the queen!
