The mix between romance and suspense was well balanced. I loved the chemistry and banter between Sam and Casey from the start even with their feelings developing a little quick. Their time together was a little lighter given what Sam was dealing with. Casey was so patient and kind, letting Sam open up when she was ready. I liked the way the reader learned about her past. The suspense was written well. I loved getting a pov from the villain and how it was more of a cat and mouse game rather than a whodunnit. It was easy to get sucked in.

‘In Two Weeks' Time’ by Rebecka Lassen introduces the reader to a tough and driven PI named Samantha Reeves who, while investigating one of her clients, finds her life profoundly shaken. Her investigating journey leads her to Mendokta Country Club, where she meets charming and handsome Casey Parks, the club’s marketing director.

As Samantha tries to maintain her surveillance, she is stretched and torn between her undeniable chemistry with Casey and some strange things happening surrounding her case. Soon she finds herself and everyone around her in grave danger.

The investigation becomes increasingly personal, as it is ironically linked to Samantha’s past. She grapples with her haunting experiences from her time in the military, adding a bit more layers to her character. Her struggles with her trauma, on top of her feelings for Casey, make the story more relatable and engaging. Already suffering from PTSD, she starts spiraling in trying to solve the case. The author deserves credit for handling the sensitive issues of PTSD and military experiences with utmost care.

Casey, who has already had a failed relationship in his past, navigates between trying to keep himself in check from falling too soon and trusting his heart. His unwavering support to Samantha strengthens their bond. With a bit of help from others, he creates a sound place in Sam’s life, but also faces some consequences for the same.

Lassen’s writing is vivid, blending humor and tension as the story progresses. The interplay between Sam’s personal trauma and professional life adds a lot of depth to the character. The flashbacks to her military life were also intense and capturing. The description of the backdrops and the brilliant use of symbolism for the protagonist’s chaotic life throughout the story showcase the authors’ potential.

The story is professionally edited with skillful grammar and little to no use of unnecessarily complicated phrases. The book does contain profanity. With mild spice and lots of flirting, it scratches the itch for a cute thriller-rom-com work for readers.

The book is a bit of a mixed bag for me. While it shows the author’s potential, I felt it was a bit flat, as the pacing was uneven. Certain plot points and characters felt rushed and didn’t add much to the narrative. Like tending too long to Sam’s emotions at times overpowered the central plot of the book. While her perceptions enrich the story, it somewhere loses momentum in those moments, also disrupting the balance of the story.

The mystery itself lacked intrigue, making it predictable, and diminishing the impact of the story. The dialogues were authentic and relatable, but sometimes they lacked the punch needed to elevate some critical moments of the story. A polished blend of action and highlighting Sam’s PI skill could add richness to the mystery.

Despite its shortcomings, ‘In Two Weeks' Time’ is a robust offering by the author. It will successfully capture the interest of readers who like a blend of thriller and thematic character-driven stories. It’s a decent read for a versatile reader and earns a 3 out of 5 stars for exploring some provocative themes. The book certainly piques my curiosity about what is coming next from the promising author.

Thank you Discovery for the ARC!

Samantha is an army veteran turned PI on a case chasing an egotistical husband. When he doesn't show up to the golf outing he was supposed to attend, she knows something is wrong. He has been found murdered and there is an old photo that was left behind with a message. A photo from a day Samantha remembers all too clearly. But what does she have to do with Jeffrey? She was just hired by the scorned wife and has failed in her work in that he died on her watch. As Sam works to dig deeper she finds that things are not adding up and it seems someone is out for her. Her PTSD has kicked into overdrive lately and that terrible day back in Afghanistan can't seem to stop playing repeat in her mind. As more bodies tied to her pile up, she has to come to terms that she is the actual target and these are all collateral damage until it's her time. In a race to find the killer, she knows she doesn't have much time before she will be next. With a budding new romance also taking up her time and thoughts, she must decide if Casey is a distraction or someone she just might be able to try and be in a relationship with. After a tumultuous childhood, she has never been able to get close to someone. This case has shaken up her life in more ways than she could have ever imaged. This was a fun, fast paced thriller and I did enjoy learning about Sam's background and why she is the way she is. Thank you to the author for the complementary novel, this review is of my own opinion and accord.

From the very first page, In Two Weeks' Time had me hooked with its perfect balance of suspense, romance, and emotional depth. Rebecka Lassen crafts a thrilling narrative that follows Army veteran-turned-private investigator Samantha Reeves, whose seemingly routine life takes a dangerous turn when a case leads her straight into the crosshairs of a vengeful killer.

Sam is a protagonist you can’t help but root for—strong, independent, yet undeniably human. Her past as a veteran adds layers to her character, making her resilience all the more compelling. When she crosses paths with Casey Parks, a charming marketing director at an elite country club, their chemistry is undeniable. But just as Casey becomes intrigued by Sam, he unknowingly finds himself entangled in the very danger that haunts her past.

Lassen masterfully weaves tension into every scene, keeping the stakes high as Sam races against time to uncover the truth. The blend of mystery and romance is seamless, making the novel an addictive read. What truly stands out is the way Lassen balances lighthearted moments with darker themes—an artful touch that keeps the story engaging without becoming overwhelmingly grim.

For fans of romantic suspense, In Two Weeks' Time is a must-read. It’s a book that will have you flipping pages long into the night, heart racing, and emotions fully invested. Highly recommended!

Looking for a romantic suspense that’s fast-paced, easy to devour, and just the right dose of danger? From the jump, this story grabs you with a solid mix of tension, emotion, and sizzling (but mostly closed-door) chemistry.

Samantha Reeves is your classic tough-but-vulnerable heroine—an Army vet turned PI whose life gets shaken up by a case that is more personal and deadly than expected. Enter Casey Parks, charming marketing guy at a fancy country club who’s about to get a lot more than he bargained for. Sparks fly, of course.

The suspense is snappy, and while the villain doesn’t stay a mystery for long, it’s more about how things unfold than the whodunnit. Flashbacks to Sam’s time in Afghanistan give the story extra weight and depth. And the banter? Pure Midwestern gold.

If you’re into quick reads with solid characters, light spice, insta-love vibes, and a good blend of heart and heat, this one’s totally worth your time.

I picked up this book at the book fair for Adults and got to meet the Author. My friend and I made this our first book we read in our book club! She was super sweet and I loved that she was local to MN. It made the places described in the book so much more personal.
Overall it was a good easy read. I went into it thinking it was just going to be a thriller and then was pleasantly surprised by the romance.
It kept me engaged through a whole 9 hour day of traveling and made the day fly.
However, I feel like the first half of the book told the whole story. With the second half of the book I did find myself skimming certain scenes because I already knew how it was going to end.
Overall, I would recommend this book to someone else and found the characters enjoyable and would read a sequel!

Just a head's up: I'm terrible at writing reviews, so if this seems messy, I'm sorry.

This book was a fast-paced, easy read. The characters were realistic but not overly complicated. The villain's identity was revealed fairly quickly, which took some of the mystery away.
The flashbacks to the FMC's time in Afghanistan were probably my favorite part.
I would give this book 1🌶 on the spice scale. There was one mildly descriptive love scene toward the end of the book. Most of the love scenes consisted of foreplay and then fade to black/closed door intimacy.
If you're looking for tame insta-love romantic suspense, this book is wonderful. The banter is great and feels very Midwestern, which I love. All in all, this was a fun read that kept my attention until the very end.

From the very first page, I was hooked by the emotional depth and gripping tension. Lassen masterfully weaves a story that's equal parts heart-wrenching and hopeful.

The pacing is perfect, just enough suspense to keep you turning the pages, but also tender moments that stay with you long after you finish.

If you love stories about resilience, love, and the complexities of time and relationships, this one’s a must-read. Highly recommended!
