Story started off absolutely amazing. Something we probably haven’t seen before. We have two cardiology surgeons, two very competitive cardiology surgeons, two cardiology surgeons that despise each other and are super competitive. The difference between these two? The FMC is a regular, normal cardiology surgeon during the day, but a murdering stripper at night getting revenge on everyone who wronged her. And the MMC is a tattooed cardiology surgeon who is part of the Irish mafia, who kills quietly and lethally and has a rough past. I was literally kicking and screaming when I started reading.
And to take this story up a notch, these two get drunkenly married in Vegas. And the FMC still hates the MMC, and the MMC is all “my wife” and insists that they stay married. But the FMC keeps fighting him.
Until they both suddenly are in love with each other (didn’t really understand when and how it happened), out of nowhere too. One second they were hating each other’s guts, then they were fucking in the hospital, and there was some knife (scalpel) play involved, and then there was love. And that’s where the story took a turn for the worse. It was almost like the authors were changed, and everything just became boring and so, so predictable.
And the same night they realise they are in love is the same night the MMC finds out that the FMC was the one who got him arrested because the FMC keeps a diary with all her “victims”. So now all the trust is gone, and he thinks that she did all of this as part of a master plan to ruin him. So to test her, he takes her to his house to enter her into this “trial thing” to see if she survives or not by getting her to tell a lot of truths. At the same time, he keeps saying that he will die with her if she fails, even though he believes that she is a traitor. Then at the end of the trial, he brings out his snake (literal snake, animal) and lets her decide the FMC’s fate. And when the snake doesn’t kill the FMC, the MMC decides to fuck the FMC with the snake wrapped all around her and strangling her… mind you, all of this happens during the same 24 hours.
The MMC also comes clean about his past and the mafia, and the FMC tells him everything. And now everything is water under the bridge, and they are all annoyingly lovey-dovey again.
Then we enter the side story; there, the MMC, together with his brothers, are going to take down their enemies (a rival family). And the MMC is all like to the FMC, “the man you are going to see in there is not your husband, but a cold-hearted monster killer”. And I was like, no, you are a little kitten, pretending to be a big bad wolf who somehow manages to take a snake and give said snake some Stockholm syndrome. Then the FMC was kidnapped by the rival, and then they got the rival murdered, and then the end.
So. Fucking. Predictable.
I mean, I was loving the headstrong and badass FMC. And suddenly, out of nowhere, she turned into this pathetic mess of a woman who was head over heels over this Stockholm syndrome snake kidnapper wannabe mobster. Like wtf! Where did that woman go?
This story was better than the previous one in this series because that one almost made me vomit, so I had to DNF it. But I almost DNFed this one at the end because of the mushy, pushy bullshit between the main characters had going on!
