In the American Civil War, airships ruled the skies. Confederate Navy Lieutenant Henry Steward commanded, with skill and ingenuity, one of the hot air blimps. Captured in the Bahamas, he was released from a Chicago pow camp in 1866.
Returning home to his destroyed farm in Dublin, Georgia, he's reunited with his childhood friend, Samuel Freeman. Sam escaped to the north and joined the Union Army. Henry is able to sell his farm, as he is one of the few with a title. He and Sam pool their money and buy a decommissioned airship. They name her Sanctuary.
Post war, big companies like Air Masters try to build a trade monopoly. Henry and Sam just want to be peaceful merchants. They board their first cargo and passenger and head west with the southerly trade winds to California.
