Perfect for when you want a cozy, heartfelt holiday romance…
Mitch Collins is dreading another family Christmas filled with prying questions, silent judgments, and, most painfully, an empty chair beside him at the table. At twenty-eight, he’s tired of being the family’s lone single—and their favorite matchmaking project.
Enter Garred, his best friend’s straight, ruggedly handsome roommate. A serious firefighter with no shortage of charm, Garred might be the last person Mitch expected to bring home for the holidays. But when Mitch’s best friend suggests Garred as a “boyfriend for hire” to keep his family off his back, Mitch reluctantly agrees. What starts as a simple charade soon sparks something Mitch never expected.
With a family that’s instantly smitten with his “boyfriend” and Garred settling into the role with surprising ease, Mitch finds himself in deeper than he planned. As the line between pretense and genuine affection blurs, Mitch wonders if he’s finally found a reason to love the holidays.
Boyfriend for the Holidays is a sweet yet steamy fake-dating, small-town Christmas romance about love that surprises you when you least expect it.
It’s sweet, so sweet, they’re too sweet to be true. Okay, this is just adorable! It makes me crave something sugary thanks to this book. What a couple of lovely guys!🍰💗✨️
Cute little short. Mitch needs a fake boyfriend for his holiday visit to his family and his best friends Kelly offers her supposedly straight roommate as tribute. Garrett is a firefighter and too good at pretending to be Mitch's fake boyfie. Or is he not pretending? Hot firefighters are HOT.
Aahhh it was ADORABLE!! My sweet tooth was super satisfied after reading this cute little fake dating love story. But now i want so much more of Garred and Mitch and his family
This was short and sweet. Like so very sweet!! These two were so cute together. Garred played the fake boyfriend soo well. Though was he really even faking it?! I just couldn’t give it more stars because it was so short. I would have loved an epilogue but I can’t complain about anything else.
100% safe, no cheating or op or break up. Definitely HFN though because there was a love declaration from only one of the MCs.

This is such a sweet and spicy little Christmas treat!
Even though it's very short, this story has pretty much everything you need for a little Holiday read!
I've always been a sucker for the fake dating trope, especially when it involves the mc trying to convince parents and siblings that they're able to date successfully so I knew I'd love this when I read the Summery.
Mitch and Garred are both such lovable and adorable characters. I love their chemistry and how well they complement each other's personalities.
The side characters are also really cute, especially Grandma!
There's also some nice spice to just finish off this already perfect little book!
BOYFRIEND FOR THE HOLIDAYS was a cute novella and I'm always a sucker for the fake dating trope, especially when we're trying to bamboozle nosy family. Mitch and Gerrad were really sweet together and I loved how they fumbled their way into a relationship thanks to their meddling friend Kelly. The moments with Mitch's family were fun and his mom had me cracking up with her embarrassing advice. A fun romance with a bit of spice and plenty of holiday cheer.
It was a sweet and short, fake boyfriend Christmas story. Nothing special to be honest. I feel like I have read books like this quite a few times. You know, it's a cute and fun little palette cleanser.
It only has one pov and it's missing a freaking epilogue. Why? WHY? Why isn't there an epilogue? For novella's like these, where the story basically happens in two days, you really need an epilogue (or I really want a epilogue because I love a hea). Both of these reason make me want to give the book only 3 stars but the mcs were cute and I adore the cover, so I guess I can add another star. I also really liked the movies references at the beginning.
It was just way to freaking short. When the book is so short, I really don't give a fuck about what they eat or what a room looks like.
Yeah…just missed the mark for me 🤷🏼♀️ maybe if it was a bit longer or a true full length novel? There just wasn’t enough time to develop their relationship to make any of it feel organic 🫤 like how does he love Mitchell so damn much? They met in October at a Halloween party and then they’re going to a family dinner for Christmas and Garred is in love? It didn’t feel like there were any events that acted to pull them together 🤷🏼♀️ it made Mitch needing to “remind” himself it was all fake seem ridiculous…especially considering Garred wasn’t actually getting paid (beyond a few meals) for this 🫤
Nice, short and sweet, with the right amount of heat. A good start to my Christmas reading. The writing is decent, and though there was nothing to hark about the done-to-death fake boyfriend for the holidays trope, I still enjoyed it nevertheless.
¿un bombero que se parece a Henry Cavill, caballeroso y fingiendo ser tu novio para navidad poniendo contentos a toda la familia de lo perfecto que es? ¡DENME 10 PLS!
Why was this so short? I really wish this was longer, or if the author could bless us with a longer version, maybe a series of these two. Regardless, I’ve found a new favorite book and author.
This is a short story following Mitch dreading his family Christmas dinner because it’s uncomfortable and there’s always an empty chair besides him. At the advice of his best friend, he recruits Garred to be a pretend boyfriend. As they navigate their lie, things unexpectedly start turning warmer and Garred being the “perfect” boyfriend his family loves, starts to do things to Mitch’s already existing feelings.
I do not always smile like an idiot when I read books, but this is consecutively the second that has made me. The writing captivated me quite quickly, as it exuded Mitch’s personality with a relatable premise from the very start. As the story continues, we’re introduced to more characters and even though some are very brief interactions, it feels like I’ve known them for a while. All the characters in this story are lovable with enjoyable personalities. Each adds their own little flavor by sometimes creating a little drama, or by helping Mitch and Garred get closer.
The plot in this story is quite relatable and it’s surprisingly paced well for a short story. The attraction and interactions between Mitch and Garred were well written and interwoven into the events of the Christmas family dinner. I was honestly impressed with how the author wrote this story occurring in such a limited time frame without being too detailed or vague. It was a perfect blend and I couldn’t ask for more!
The romance is the highlight of this short story but there are also many other moving parts. I enjoyed Mitch’s interactions with his family because it felt natural including his friend. His family is very adorable and warm but I’m curious about his brother. Honestly, it would be interesting to have more details or stories about them all.
Overall, this was a surprisingly short and enjoyable read. I would love a longer version of this story with more of their past and future interactions because both main characters are just so lovable. Definitely a good read for the holiday or winter season!
This was my first reading from Gaia Tate and the story is super cute, definitely recommend it if you want a sweet Christmas story to read. It’s not necessarily insta love but it’s definitely right up on it. Basically 2 people who have a crush on each other who end up becoming fake boyfriends. I mean, you can see where that’s gonna go straight from the beginning, lol. But, I personally do a lot of the times like pretty predictable books so this was definitely my style.
The whole story is told entirely from Mitch’s point of view, but Gaia pulls it off very well that you can clearly see Garred’s point of view without actually having to read it.
At first, I didn’t really like Mitch’s family because of the way Mitch described them and from their actions before they actually came into the story, but I’m glad my mind was changed (except for Adam, still don’t really like him all that much). Garred definitely saw Mitch’s family’s actions in a different light than Mitch himself and Garred was right in his thoughts, though I could understand where Mitch was coming from.
There were a couple of story flaws, like right after they got out of the plane and grabbed their bags they jumped right to Garred getting into the drivers seat but no mention of them getting a rental or anything, like the car was just magically there for them or something. Then another flaw where Garred put his hand on Mitch’s shoulder while he was driving. I mean that may not be an impossible position but I definitely don’t think him bending his arm back like that would be very comfortable, and then right after he moved his hand to his cheek and unless it was the back of his hand (considering the moment, it sounds like it was his palm) that is definitely not a possible position while driving a car. These don’t affect my review at all, just thought I’d mention them cause they are a bit odd to me, the hand flaw the most.
The wine incident was super funny. I feel like whenever wine is involved with anything, there is always going to be an accident involving it, lol.
Overall, it’s a great story and as I said at the top, definitely recommend picking this up.

“Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays 'cause no matter how far away you roam when you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze for the holidays, you can't beat home sweet home.” ~ (There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays) ~ Perry Como
Mitch, of 'A Boyfriend for the Holidays' by Gaia Tate, sits on his bed contemplating his trip home for Christmas. He wants to celebrate Christmas with his family and see his family but dreads their yearly "inquisition" about why he is still single. When his best friend, Kelly, calls and wants to meet for coffee, he knows he can commiserate with her.
His friend, having often heard about his dilemma and hating to see Mitch so sad, proposes what could be a solution. She suggests that he get a fake boyfriend to go with him and suggests her handsome, well-mannered roommate, Garrard, who also happens to be a fireman. Mitch has secretly had a crush on Garrard since he met him at Halloween and can't believe he would ever agree to such an outrageous proposition. Before he can stop Kelly, she calls Garrard and asks if he would be willing to be Mitch's “date” for his Christmas visit home. To Mitch's amazement, Garrard agrees, bringing a glimmer of hope that this Christmas will be different.
When Mitch and Garrard arrive at Mitch's home, his family is stunned to find that Mitch has someone with him and bombards them with questions. Instead of feeling uncomfortable, Garrard does and says all the right things, ingratiating Mitch’s family to him right away. Garrard is very convincing as a boyfriend—maybe too convincing. This leaves Mitch wondering if Garrad's attention is all an act or if there could be some truth in it.
Creating a short story presents a unique challenge, as there are so few words to provide sufficient background for it to make sense. But 'Boyfriend for the Holidays’ is an excellent example of how it's done. I adored Mitch and Garrard and the entire Christmas experience. Even though it technically was an insta-love situation, it did not feel that way. It's my favorite holiday story this season. Thanks so much, Gaia.

'As we walk in, she grabs my elbow and hisses— loud enough for Garred to hear—” Mitch, this is a Christmas miracle!” Oh. My. God. My face heats up like a gas canister about to explode, and all I want to do right now is merge with the dining room floor like a chameleon. I glance at Garred, and he’s clearly amused— he’s smirking as if to say he’s absolutely going to bring this up later, especially since my mom’s reaction makes it sound like she’d given up on my dating life entirely.'
I absolutely loved this book. It was such a sweet romance. I love the fake relationship trope and this one was pretty easy going. Mitch and Garred were adorable together. Mitch definitely had a crush, and Garred had a warm personality and was a charmer. But their friend Kelly told him Garred was gay and the book is entirely in Mitch's point of view, so we're only in his head.
I expected the toxic family drama that usually comes with the fake relationship trope, but I actually really liked Mitch's family and loved how Garred interacted with them. Mitch's mother and grandmother in particular made me laugh.
“I can't believe she just—” I start, then cover my face with my hands. “Oh god, this is so embarrassing.” “I don't know,” Garred says, his voice warm with amusement as he pulls me closer. “I think it's kind of sweet. In a thoroughly mortifying way.”
I just wish I could have gotten an epilogue for after where it ended to see what happened with them once they returned home. Or maybe a scene with them and Kelly.
A very heartwarming read. It's my favorite for the holiday season so far. 5 stars
This one was a delight and felt a little more developed than others. Plus, the pining wasn't over years' worth of misunderstanding, a much better-for-me situation! It had been a matter of months.
Mitch is dreading going home and yet again being the only single sibling there, the focus of his family's worries and ill-advised matchmaking. When his bestie suggests he bring her gorgeous and very straight firefighter roommate home with him as his fake boyfriend, he's aghast...the man is SO HOT he requires putting out himself, and Mitch has had a crush ever since he met the guy!
But...Garred is so nice, and...on board...and so...Mitch finds himself walking up to his parents' doorstep for Christmas, hand in hand with Garred. Who is kind to everyone, doesn't mind all the goggling and raised brows at his sudden appearance...is open to casual touches....and kisses... and sharing Mitch's room...! Garred charms them all, and Mitch has a hard time reining in his fluttering heart. I mean, who wouldn't have a hard time with it? Okay it's not his heart that's hard... 😁
Why oh why is this guy straight?
Come on ya'll know that's not the case...! LOL
This one was sweet and fun and I ate it up and asked for more and promptly went back to the author's book list for my next hit between much more angst-filled reads.
HFN that feels like HEA, fake boyfriends, best friend's roommate, firefighter and book editor. Totally safe for me, no OM drama or even mentions of past lovers. Thank you author! Highly recommended when you need a fast, satisfying little bite of romance.
Boyfriend For the Holidays by Gaia Tate was one of those books that completely wrecked my sleep schedule in the best way. I told myself I would just read a few chapters before bed, and suddenly it was way past bedtime and I was still turning pages because I had to know what happened next. This is a cozy, swoony holiday romance that absolutely understands why people love the fake boyfriend trope.
What really worked for me was how natural the connection felt between the main characters. The setup is familiar, but the execution made it feel fresh. The dialogue was fun and flirty without trying too hard, and the emotional moments landed in a way that felt genuine. I loved how the holiday setting was woven into the story instead of just being background decoration. From family gatherings to seasonal tension, it added warmth and stakes without ever feeling overdone.
Gaia Tate does a great job balancing lighthearted romance with just enough emotional depth to keep you invested. I found myself smiling a lot while reading, but there were also moments that made me pause and feel things, which I always appreciate in a romance. The pacing was strong too. I never felt bored or tempted to skim.
I originally read this through Kindle Unlimited, and I loved it so much that I went back and bought my own copy because I know I will want to reread it. That alone says a lot. I honestly wish it were longer or had a sequel because I was not ready to say goodbye to these characters. A five star holiday read for me, easily. Give it a chance and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with Mitch and Garred too!
4.5. This is adorable, swoony, and had just the right amount of sizzle for a short, holiday treat. I stayed up way too late to finish reading it last night. Mitch is an assistant book editor & gamer; he's shy, sweet, and has only had 2 boyfriends. Since he's never brought anyone home to meet the family , his siblings are all settled, AND he's already in his late 20s, his mom has started setting him up with random people. In order to stave off a lot of discomfort during Christmas, his best friend Kelly suggests that he hire someone to act as a shield, a fake boyfriend! Garred, a hottie firefighter & Kelly's roommate, agrees to be Mitch's fake boyfriend during the trip home to Mitch's family.
Fake Boyfriend + forced proximity + Only One Bed = a recipe for a super cute, very swoony, trip home for the holidays. Mitch was totally clueless during this trip, but Garred is everything you could want in the perfect book boyfriend! We find out about their meet-cute, which was totally adorkable and left an impression on Garred. The family members were great additions to the story, especially the mom and grandma. I very much enjoyed this story and the connection between Mitch + Garred as they turn out to have quite a bit in common - they are so adorable!

OMG this book!!! This freaking book!! Why’d it have to be so short I need atleast 3 more of these books 300+ pages no less give me a series. I beg!!!
I honestly believe in love again I don’t care Mitch and Garred were so stinking cute with eachother oh my gosh!! I need me a man to love me like Garred loves Mitch like if I fake dated him it would have been over in a second when I seen how he acted with the family I’m proposing to that man idc!!
Mitch’s family were so real and authentic, like when y’all gonna invite me to y’all’s Christmas dinner I’ll be there with my rolls from Texas Roadhouse
The whole family was Hilarious I love them so much they felt so real and just like the sweetest people even though they were on Mitch’s ass to get a man like damn leave him alone!!
But don’t get me started on Adam like damn all these excuses on being protective boy please he was straight up rude and didn’t want to see Mitch happy yeah I said what I said fight me!! He redeemed himself a bit in the end I guess!!😒
Overall such a good ass fucking book wtf!!! Didn’t expect this from such a short story but it felt so fleshed out and it was just so good!!!! I need more on Mitch and Garreds story or something give me more please!!!
Ps.. when Garred talks about living up to the book boyfriends I almost levitated like yes hun you live up to them 100%!!!
This is a sweet and steamy holiday short story. Perfect for an afternoon read. A fun fake boyfriend and family pressure read. This is the story of Mitch and Garred. Being 28 and still single, Mitch is dreading going home again as the sole single person in the family. He is tired of the silent judgements and he really wants to be in a relationship with someone. While having coffee with his best friend, she comes up with the idea that Mitch should hire someone. And she has the perfect someone. Her roommate Garred. He is a fire fighter and is off for Christmas. Believing that Garred would never agree, he agrees. Then he is shocked when Garred does agree. And no payment is required. He will work for food alone. This is their story. This is a sweet story. I enjoyed how they both grew to be more comfortable with each other. I didn't understand the miscommunication about sexual preference but his best friend knew Mitch better than I did. The book is well written and easy to read. I really enjoyed it.

“Maybe if I could show you how good we could be together, you'd want this to be real. Want me.”
Mitch is visiting his family and is not looking forward to all of the comments about his chronic singleness. Enter Gerrard, a firefighter up to play pretend.
Tropes: — Fake dating — Holiday novella — Only one bed — Boy obsessed
This was so cute!! Literally the perfect short and sweet and spicy novella for the holidays. I love fake dating. It’s one of my favorite tropes and this one does it so well. I loved the family dynamics and I loved all the “fake” affection. I loved how seamlessly they seemed to go together and how easy it was for them to progress to the “real”. Just so cute overall and a fun time!!
An absolute joy from start to finish. Boyfriend for the Holidays is endearing, earnest, and just downright lovely. I don’t think I stopped smiling the entire time, grinning ear to ear one moment and feeling that heat in my cheeks the next. Gaia Tate struck the perfect balance between sweet, tender romance and genuine, flirty chemistry, delivering emotional beats that landed beautifully and a connection that felt sincere from the start. The whole story radiated cozy, festive magic in a way that makes holiday romances so addictive. This was my first Gaia Tate read, and it absolutely won’t be my last. Definitely an easy, enthusiastic recommendation for anyone looking for a feel-good holiday romance with both charm and little kick of spice.
