Alpha’s Assassin

"This story had a surprising plot. After reading many shifter stories I did not think I could be surprised. But this one did. Great read!" - Carolina H.

My fated mate tried to kill me.

Finding myself as the unexpected and reluctant leader of my ruined pack,

I encounter Petra—the lethal beauty sent to end my life.

Beyond all reason, I spare her and bring her on my journey.

I must receive a royal blessing to become Alpha of my pack.

As we evade bloodthirsty Lone wolves and dangerous fairies,

Her intoxicating scent drives me wild; her touch electrifies my skin.

My mind screams "enemy," but my wolf howls to claim her as mine.

With each moment, the lines blur between duty and desire, reason and instinct.

As her past threatens to tear her away, I face an impossible

Trust my would-be assassin or protect my pack from her kind.

One thing's for certain—anyone who tries to take her from me will meet a fate worse than death.

Jericko and Petra’s story is jam packed full of shifters and fairies. The storyline is a fated mates - enemies to lovers tale. It’s got heat, hatred and fae magic. The characters are multifaceted with each one having their own strengths and abilities. I liked how the author used the fated mate trope to move the story along to let the heat between Petra and Jericho skyrocket. The editing is good . 5✨’s.

Alpha’s Assassin (Shifters of Clarion) ~~ I read Alpha’s Assassin on Kindle, and it was a quick but really entertaining wolf-shifter romance that pulled me in right from the start. I enjoy enemies-to-lovers stories, and this one definitely leans into that trope with a strong paranormal twist. The story opens with the Alpha of a ruined pack trying to rebuild his leadership and protect what little he has left after everything has fallen apart around him. Just when he thinks things can’t get worse, an assassin named Petra shows up — and she’s literally been sent to kill him.

What makes the story interesting is that instead of killing her or fighting her, he ends up sparing her life. From that moment on, the tension between them becomes the driving force of the book. Petra isn’t just some random enemy either — she’s deadly, mysterious, and has a complicated past that slowly starts to unfold as the story moves forward. The Alpha knows she could betray him at any moment, yet his wolf instantly recognizes something deeper between them that neither of them wants to admit.

As they travel together to seek a royal blessing so he can officially become Alpha, danger keeps following them. There are rogue wolves, dangerous fae, and plenty of moments where Petra’s loyalty is questioned. What I liked most was watching their relationship slowly shift from enemies… to reluctant allies… to something much deeper. Even when his mind tells him she’s the enemy, his wolf is completely convinced she’s his fated mate.

The chemistry between them is intense, especially because neither of them fully trusts the other. Petra has secrets, and when parts of her past begin to catch up with her, it puts both of them — and the pack — in serious danger. By the end of the book, the Alpha is faced with a choice: protect his pack from her kind… or risk everything to protect the woman he’s starting to fall for.

This was a fast read (just over 100 pages) but it still managed to pack in action, romance, and that classic wolf-shifter tension that I always enjoy in these types of books. If you like fated mates, strong Alpha leaders, dangerous assassins, and enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance, this one is definitely worth reading.

I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t believe I have finished all of these amazing authors books. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself — you won’t regret it.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review. I have also read every book both authors have written and have loved every single book published…

Ariel Renner's Alpha's Assassin is a thrilling rollercoaster of tension, passion, and raw emotion, weaving together themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the undeniable pull of fated mates. This book captures the essence of what it means to be torn between duty and the wild call of love.

The story plunges readers into high stakes from the very first moment. The protagonist, newly thrust into the role of Alpha after the devastation of his pack, is a complex character driven by honor, grief, and a simmering inner conflict. The introduction of Petra—the assassin sent to kill him—immediately ups the ante. She's a lethal force cloaked in mystery, her dangerous allure irresistible to both the Alpha and the reader.

What makes this story truly captivating is the deep, primal connection between the two leads. The Alpha’s internal struggle, caught between his wolf’s primal instinct to claim Petra as his mate and his logical mind screaming that she’s a threat, creates an electric tension. Each encounter between them crackles with intensity, their chemistry raw and undeniable.

Petra’s character is equally compelling. Her assassin's edge contrasts beautifully with moments of vulnerability as her walls begin to crumble. As the layers of her past are revealed, her journey becomes one of redemption and self-discovery, drawing the reader deeper into her story.

The plot is masterfully paced, balancing moments of heart-pounding action—like battles with Lone wolves and clashes with fairies—with deeply emotional and intimate scenes that explore trust and the bond of fated mates. The journey to secure a royal blessing to lead the pack is not just a physical one but an emotional trial that tests the Alpha’s resolve, loyalty, and his capacity for forgiveness and love.

Renner’s world-building is immersive, painting a vivid landscape filled with danger, magic, and the complexities of pack politics. Her writing is evocative, bringing to life the intensity of the Alpha's emotions and the magnetic pull between him and Petra.

The themes of trust, redemption, and the duality of instinct versus reason resonate deeply, making this more than just a romance—it’s a story about the choices that define us and the bonds that shape our futures.

For fans of steamy shifter romances with fated mates, morally grey characters, and heart-stopping action, Alpha's Assassin is an absolute must-read. It’s a story that grips you with its intensity and doesn’t let go, leaving you breathless until the final page.

I received an ARC from the author in return for an early review.

A battle rages between wolves those in a pack and those considered “lone”-pack less. An assassin has been instructed to infiltrate into the pack camp and kill the Alpha but when she gets ready to do it, she can’t because she feels an attraction towards him. She is captured but plans her escape until she finds he has the same attraction towards her. They give in to their feelings and later find her lones have captured the other two members of their party. In getting them back they are captured as well and Petra finds out the truth about who she really is.

A fight takes place and the man she loves is the victor over the one who she had considered to be her
father. They get the laws changed to allow “lones” to be free and not hunted anymore by the packs.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it as one I think you’ll enjoy especially if you like spicy romance in your reading!

After centuries of mistrust, perhaps a future book will show if the efforts of Petra and Jericko were successful or not.

Petra is determined to kill the alpha of Mettal.  This is a feud that started over five generations ago when a royal wolf was killed by her group, the Lones (they refuse to be called a pack).  Petra thinks she can slip in to the alpha's home, assassinate him while he is sleeping and slip out....easy, peasy.  Not!  First, her info isn't up to date as the alpha was killed.  Second, when she sees her intended victim, she is instantly smitten and can't follow through.  His eyes open, she is caught, and she is imprisoned.

So begins the tale of Petra and Jericko.  They must navigate their pack issues, their attraction to each other, Petra's orders to kill Jericko, and a long history of two packs who have been enemies for many generations. A story of twists and turns, drama, suspense, learning to trust, learning to adapt, and learning to move past old history.

In the midst of recovering after a devastating attack that claimed the lives of multiple members of the pack, including his father and brother, Jericho, if confirmed by the moon goddess , will assume the responsibilities of the pack's Alpha.

In this world where there are pack wolves or lycans and lones or wolves without a pack structure, Pedra, daughter of one of the lone leaders, has been trained to be an assassin.

The author creates and introduces through her gift, a tragi-romance story where the intended victim falls for his would be assassin after facing multiple occasions where their lives are in danger, impromptu meetings with other Supernatural beings occur, battles are waged and amix of love / distrust, love / hate, friendship as well as loyalties emotions are felt and lived.

I recommend this book and award it 5 Stars.

Alpha’s Assassin is a marvelous wolf shifter romance which I thought to be quite suspenseful and a definite page-turner. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book to the point where I did NOT want to set the book down for a single moment. Author Ariel Renner has done another brilliant job with writing this remarkable wolf shifter romance. She’s becoming one of my favorite paranormal romance authors that I absolutely enjoy reading her fascinating books. I love that Jericko and Petra have a sort of happy ending to their remarkable story. Now I’m not going to reveal anything about this book because I don’t want to ruin it for future readers. Alpha’s Assassin is a wolf shifter romance book that I would give as a recommendation for anyone to read this remarkable book.

Petra was sent by her father to kill the Arian Pack Alpha, but when she sees him she can’t kill him. Trying to escape she is caught, Jericko is drawn to her, she smells so good. Jericko, his mother and Callen plan to journey to the Alpha King, will take Petra with them. Petra is a delightful, powerful woman, she wants Jericko, smells so good she can’t decide whether to kiss him or punch him. She is delightful and very entertaining. Jericko is her fated mate, they can’t resist the mate bond. They will face many challenges, misunderstandings, surprises, betrayal, violent enemies, and difficulties. But together they will triumph and find their true destiny and happiness.

Another great story from Ariel Renner, written with Lila Bosch. A shifter romance with action, magic, friendship, fated mates and love. A shorter story than the rest of this series, but still a great read and one I couldn't put down.

A group of lone wolves have been fighting against a wolf pack for years and following a particularly large battle Petra is sent by her father into the pack to kill the new Alpha. But on finding him asleep she finds something stops her and then she's his prisoner.

Jericko should want to get rid of his assassin but needs to get the Alpha King's approval to take his Alpha position and decides to take his assassin with him, not knowing what draws him to her so much.

If you’re looking for a book that is fast paced and to the point this book is it!
It’s a fast read with spice and a really good plot. A plot that I really wish they would have dove more into honestly that’s the only reason I took a star away. The plot had so much potential and the characters could have had so much growth. I was more sad it was over so fast!

The book starts off right away and never slows! Fated mates, An alpha that doesn’t know if he should be an alpha, an assassin sent to kill the alpha but finds answers instead. It had action, love, and mystery.

Definitely worth the read!

I was drawn in by the tittle I love assassin stories and pretty much anything enemies to lovers. Right off the bat Petra tries to kill our young alpha Jericko. This was a fun enemies to lovers Instalove adventure where Jericko and our assassin Petra are always at odds with each other, she’s his prisoner. I liked that this book was light and not too heavy with death and violence, theres some but it’s fairly brief. I really enjoyed Petra’s escape attempts and watching Jericko simply retrieve her every time, she was spitting mad.

Alpha’s Assassin (Shifters of Clarion) by Ariel Renner and Lila Bosch

Paranormal Romance
Enemies to Lovers
Fated Mates

MMC - Jericko - soon to be alpha of the wolf pack, Takes no nonsense and can come across as kind of a jerk.
FMC - Petra - orphan and part of the lone wolves, assassin by trade. Feisty and knows her mind

There has been a rivalry between the lone wolves and the Pack wolves for centuries.

This is a Insta love adventure as Jerico takes Petra prisoner and they must journey together to go see the King.

For me this was a super quick read as I read it in a few hours. I would recommend it to anyone who loves an easy read and like anything paranormal.

Soooo this book was a short novella and all in all wasn't too bad. I got right away the FMC and the MMC would be together. I wished that there was more yearning and character building, having them get to know one another better. I felt like they would just randomly get spicy. go. (I will give it grace for those different gaps due to it being a shorter book).
I thought it was interesting that the FMC character was part wolf part fae and is set to bring centeries of peace. I would really like to see her powers grow and how this journey for peace will book. I'm interested to see if there are any other books connected to this series and see how it plays out.

Another entertaining quick read from Ariel Renner. At this point, I just blindly read what she writes because every time, it's a quick and fun read. This one follows Petra and Jericko. Fated mates, but also enemies. Lots of battle action, some spice, brief mention of the Alpha King Leon from another story, and a happy ending.

Following a major battle between a Wolf pack and their enemies the lone wolves. Petra has sent by her father to kill Jericko who will be the new pack alpha but when push comes to shove finds she can't do it.
It is a relatively short read that sees them turn from enemies to lovers.
I wish that the story was longer as the plot has so much potential but I enjoyed the story immensely.

A young girl doing what her father wants of her because he is the only family she has ever known. But soon finds out that she has been lied to about how her family died by the person she cared about the most. This story is very interesting in the way that it plays out. Our main character's backstory is very sad, and you can see how she struggles with her decisions between her father and the man she just met who seems to be drawing her in.

This was a bit different as it involve the FMC being an assassin and morally flawed. It added an extra twist as the MMC Jericko was the one that followed the rules.
As this was a short read, then the plot was fleshed out. I wish it had been longer so we could get more of Jericko’s backstory and see more interaction between him and Petra.
I did enjoy this story and loved the scenario’s that they found themselves in!

This book was short and sweet! We get a short glimpse into Petra’s background and I would definitely read more to come. Jericko is still a bit of a loose end but I think that story will be more rounded out as well. The spice was spicing so if you’re looking for a short palate cleanser with a pretty good plot and some good spice then the Alphas Assassin is for you!.

This was a fantastic read.

I loved the relationship between the Alpha and his would-be assassin. Fated mates who see each other as enemies first, but are able to look past that.

The world building is amazing. Well thought out and described in such detail to make the reader "see" it.

Great plot, appealing characters... all around great book!.

Slightly shorter than I'd like but complete and definitely enjoyable

The two main characters - Petra (the Assassin) & Jericko (the Alpha) - are both well-drawn. Each has their own strengths and, despite the circumstances of their original meeting, they are unable to resist the attraction that springs to life between them.

Good action, enjoyable passion, and I'd recommend this to other readers of shifter romances.

I do love a good enemies to lovers wolf shifter story and this was just that!

Although Assassin Petra was sent to kill the Alpha of Arion, Jeriko, as soon as she sees him she just can’t go through with it. Mmm I wonder why …..

This book is full of tension, action and spicy love. It has a strong FMC and a possessive MMC and with a great ending to finish it off it’s definitely worth a read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

It is the tale of a wolf, brought up in a group of lone wolves, who is sent by her father to assassinate the Alpha of a nearby pack. When she is poised over him with a knife, she finds that she can't do it. There is something about him that stops her. The story has some twists and turns, but it all works out in the end.

Petra was given a mission. Kill the Alpha. She expected an old general but found his son instead. She couldn’t kill the man whom she longed to kiss, and more. Father said he was the enemy but she wanted him as a love. How could she please both men in her life? Internal struggles, hot love, and a possible reconciliation between the pack and the lones….if only she gives love a chance.

I am loving this series. Jericko and Petra's story is a wonderful journey. These two are sworn enemies but the Moon Goddess has other plans for them. Their fated mating is going to bring much change for many. Very positive outcome. And a forever love. Ariel is a wonderful author. This is a must read
