There’s an arsonist in the city, and he means business. But Captain Nick Calhoun, a fourth-generation firefighter, can’t seem to keep his mind on the game. He’s too busy trying to drink away a bad memory. When his behavior puts his department—and his men—in jeopardy, the fire chief has no choice but to give him an ultimatum: work with a co-captain until he can regain control, or lose his job.
When Nick agrees, he is ready for anything but Danni O’Brien. Danni is a female firefighter, and the most beautiful woman Nick has ever laid eyes on. There’s something about her that Nick is instantly drawn to, and he wants to get closer. But Danni is hiding a dark secret of her own; a secret that forces her to keep Nick—and all men—at bay.
As the sparks between them fly, a fire hits close to home, and they are forced to work against time to try and stop a madman. When tensions smolder, can Nick and Danni let go of their pasts long enough to stop the destruction? Or will they crash and burn in the fire of their own memories?
R. Sue Oleson was born and raised in Texas, at the gateway of Tornado Alley. A graduate of New Mexico State University, she is a Registered Nurse, and has worked in both acute & long-term care, rehab, and psychiatric nursing. She enjoys watching movies and reading a good book—ANY good book! While crime and mystery novels are her favorites, she grew up sneaking her mom’s romance novels—hence, her natural gravitation toward writing romantic suspense. When not writing, she also enjoys singing Karaoke, relaxing in the pool, and taking motorcycle trips with her husband. Still living in Tornado Alley, she & her husband are both licensed Amateur (HAM) Radio Operators, and are active in local Emergency Management / Storm Spotting for the community.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
R. Sue Oleson’s second novel, Burn, is just as good as the first. Burn is a romantic thriller that highlights the men and women who serve our communities as firefighters.
Burn is fast paced. There is some romance and an arson mystery in addition to the firehouse upheaval that occurs when female lieutenant, Danni O’Brien temporarily transfers. The action is griping and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Ms. Oleson has used her personal interactions/experiences with firefighters and their work to make Burn a realistic and believable story.
Ms. Oleson has filled Burn with believable and fully developed characters. The main characters, Danni O’Brien and Nick Calhoun, come from a long line of firefighters. They both have tragedies in the past that they have to work through and move beyond. The secondary characters are well developed and add greatly to both the plot and the portrayal of the main characters.
Burn by R. Sue Oleson is an enjoyable escape. I’m looking forward to Ms. Oleson’s next book.
