But her guilt was far greater. For though Lady Moira Fitzgerald had sacrificed herself to keep her people safe, she knew no man would have her now. Certainly not one as noble as Sir Connor FitzClifford! And yet her heart flared with passion whenever he drew near…
Sworn to protect Gerald's keep and all within, Connor FitzClifford hadn't realized such a vow would reweave the tapestry of his life. For his promise had bound him not only to the besieged fortress, but also to its mistress, the enigmatic Lady Moira, a woman whose very soul mirrored his own!
Sharon M. Schulze began writing romance fiction shortly after graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, while pursuing her first career as a civil engineer. She soon discovered that confirmed daydreamer/bookaholics can practice their craft anywhere, even someplace as unromantic as a wastewater treatment plant (her place of employment at the time!). In her writing, she gets the chance to experience days gone by--without encountering disease, vermin, and archaic plumbing.
Published since 1997, Sharon was a finalist in RWA's Golden Heart Contest; her third book, THE SHIELDED HEART, was a nominee for a Romantic Times Magazine Reviewers Choice Award and one of the 1999 Barclay Gold Contest's Top Ten Favorite Romances. She is a past president of the Connecticut Chapter of Romance Writers of America (CTRWA) and a former RWA Region 1 Director. She is a member of RWA, several RWA chapters, the Authors Guild and Novelists Inc.
A New Hampshire native, Sharon lived in Ohio and Massachusetts before settling in Connecticut over twenty five years ago. She and her husband Cliff share their now-empty nest--a medieval writer’s dream complete with a moat and drawbridge (actually a lovely house with a porch, a brook and a bridge)--with visiting family and friends, and the occasional 4-legged grandchild.
Ireland, 1215 At his brothers request, Lord Connor FitzClifford journeyed to Gerald’s Keep to lend assistance to the widow who now found herself unprotected by the recent death of her husband. The shock of finding Lady Moira FitzGerald so great with child, her man-at-arms so insolent and her keep remarkably still well protected, he knew there was a lot more to the story of why she had sent for the help from her overlord. The guilt over how she got into her current situation kept Moira more vigilant than most would have been, she knew it was all her fault that the MacCarthy’s wanted her, her child and her keep, but could she convince the brother of her overlord that her sins were not so much, that the people deserved help, that her child needed protection no matter what he decided to do with her. With the vow of protection from Connor, he set to work to figure a way to quell the MacCarthy’s in their quest for Gerald Keep and to protect the beautiful Lady Moira from them and her own family if need be.
This is the 4th in the l’Eau Clair Chronicles, while I miss some of the previous family members, it is wonderful to get better acquainted with Rannulf’s brother Connor and get reacquainted with the fun loving, now knighted Sir Will. This story gives a different view of a hero, admitting to weakness if only to himself shows a remarkable amount of strength. The story is very fluent and allows for the option of tender feelings to grow for each of the characters, even some of the bad guys leave the ending in good standing. This is a slower paced book than some of the previous, no kidnapping, very little battle, only remembered horrors and nightmares. The main principle is based in the mystery of how to beat the other side without forfeit of Lady Moira or her child. All the while everyone is second guessing themselves and filled with uncertainties but the honesty and the trust between Moira and Connor in the end, succeed (sorry for the spoiler, but you knew all along they would). Again, I love this series, it is an older Harlequin Historical (2000), got the whole series out just to re-read them.
I had no idea when I picked this up that it was part of such a long series and additionally that it was in the middle. I could tell I was missing one story, but not three! I really enjoyed this one. Medieval romance is so hard to keep clean for some reason and this one did it while still managing to be exciting and fun. I love the way they fall in love and the twists and turns they have. Moira is very strong and brave despite all that has happened to her. The only drawback I found was that they seems to stand and sit several times during conversations that made it hard for me to follow what they were doing when. Not enough to keep me from it. Now, I can't wait to find the other books and try them out!
This is a sweet romance with lots of sexual tension but no more. Though that makes sense since Lady Moira FitzGerald is nearly 9 months pregnant. Connor FitzClifford arrives to help Moira keep Gerald's Keep and falls head over heels in love without even realizing. He finds her pregnant state compelling and her attitude and fortitude even more so. Noira has never known a man like Connor. Her husband had looked for a broodmare. Her kin were looking only for what she could bring them. But Connor looked to her for her intelligence and thoughtfullness and he touched her in ways she thought were lost to her. Book 5 of the L'Eau Clair chronicles was solid but not exciting.
I bought this book as a joke, to have something completely mindless and sexy to read on a girls weekend years ago. I only remember it because the heroine was pregnant and the whole darn book went by without even a kiss! My friends were laughing at me as I shared the plot with them at the spa. Ha! Joke was on me!
Ireland 1215 I liked Lady Moira and Sir Connor. It's a good story with a bit of a twist. Short, nice story. Some of their thoughts are repeated too much, but a bit of skimming the words and on with the story.
