Wolves of Morai #1

A Warrior's Fate

Rate this book
Unforgettable, seductive, and action-packed, A Warrior's Fate is an addictive twist on shifter romance, perfect for fans of captivating, swoonworthy fantasy.

The goddess, Fate, must enjoy playing with the mortals. For why else would she choose the most important night of Isla’s life to place her soulmate on her path?On the night she’s to enter the Hunt, a perilous trial to earn her title of warrior, Isla meets her fated mate. Handsome, arrogant, and frustratingly captivating, Kai is everything she could want, but nowhere near what she needs right now. Because he is the king of the enigmatic Deimos…which makes Isla their rightful queen.

She’s always been taught that the destined mate bond is sacred, a connection between two souls crafted by the goddesses themselves. But she can’t find any sense in leaving everything she loves to live at Kai’s side, even if the mere sight of him sets her soul on fire. She does not love him. She does not know him. Blinding desire is not enough to abandon all she’s ever known, dreamed, and worked for. Lucky for her, then, that Kai seeks to defy their “destiny” as she does.

After agreeing to ignore their bond, the two are determined to go their separate ways. Too bad Fate won’t go down without a fight. For when Isla is victorious and achieves her warrior status, her first assignment is in the very land she wishes to avoid—Deimos. And Kai and temptation aren't all that await her. Something wicked dwells in the shadows of his kingdom...and it's coming for them both.

This is the second edition of A Warrior's Fate.

Conflicted on this. I DEVOURED the first 60% of this book. If the book ended around the 60% mark after the big thing that happens at that part, it would've been fantastic. However, the book didn't end and that's where we run into trouble...

This book is WAY too long. You could have completely cut out almost all of the chapters from Part II and Part IV (Part IV is literally 41% of the book!!). The competition at the beginning is exciting, as well as the beginning tension and romance with Kai, but then Isla remains in that city by the Wall for (what feels like) 100 years after Kai leaves, and it's boring as fuck. Then, after Isla finally gets to Deimos and reunites & mates with Kai, there's like hundreds of pages of NOTHING before the ending gets exciting again.

From the ~60% until the ~85% mark, literally nothing important happens. You honestly can probably skip the whole thing. It dragged SO hard to the point where I'd pick it up and read 10 pages (which is like 1% of this extremely long book) and put it back down again for another day. This whole portion of the book can be summarized by Isla being like, what does it all mean?! And then her talking aloud with Jonah and Kai about what the marker, dagger, and diadem could mean, along with some pretty confusing world-building about the wolves' ancient history (Ares, Phobos, witches, fae[?], tunnels, some hidden pathway, etc.). You learn nothing, and nothing happens. It's a total snoozefest during those chapters because of Isla's endless inner monologue pondering the mystery over and over again, and that whole section of the book could have been boiled down to 1 or 2 chapters. I almost DNF'd this book about 5 times between the 60% - 85% marks, but I had already read SO many pages that I forced myself to keep going. That said, I'm glad I read the ending because the final 15% was very exciting and good again.

I do think that the characters of Isla, Kai, Sebastian, Adrien, and Ameera were really well done. I didn't really care about the others. Ezekiel was clearly suspicious from the beginning, which everyone ignored for way too long into the book. But for the most part, I thought the author did a good job with the characters, romance, tension, and banter.

Overall, it was a good book, but it was way, way, way too long. What makes me sad is that it had the potential to be a great book (it had some ACOMAF vibes that I was iNTO), and it would have been a 5 star book for me if Part II and Part IV were cut down.

DNF 58% in

It really does not need to be this long I’m sorry 😭this book is good it just keeps dragging on at this point. And I don’t really consider it slow burn really more like insta lust. Their relationship based off their lust for each other. Other than that it’s nothing and the mate bond 🤷‍♀️nothing wrong with that but I kind of hoped of more of a development with them. And also the main character does not seem like a warrior she’s just always getting into messes. Anyways maybe I’ll come back to read this in the future in the meantime it’s a DNF it got boring

"To and Through Eternity"

I thank the author for ARC and an amazing opportunity to read her first book in the series.

My First and Best Book of Werewolves I've ever read and I'm mesmerized.

A Warrior's Fate is the Adult Paranormal Fantasy Romance and its first installment in the The Alpha and The Warrior series.

5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2.5-🌶️🌶️

~ Slow burn romance
~ Enemies to Lovers
~ Fated Mates
~ Alpha/ Luna
~ Beta/ Delta
~ Touch her, you die
~ Found Family
~ Betrayal/ Lies
~ Suspense/ Mystery/ Actions
~ Raw Powers
~ Shifters/ Witches/ Monsters

Isla is the FMC who was strong, sassy, fierce and protective of those she loved. Kai is the MMC who was brooding, powerful, protective and loving. Isla and Kai met and their mating bond snapped but both decided it's better for everyone to separate their ways. But little did they know? Fate put them on a same path again and it's complicates their decision without touching each other. Only tension is high. Besides that, Isla and Kai faces the mystery that looms over Deimos history and suspicious those they trusted but who to trust in the end? The war is threatening between two powerful territories and Isla is caught between.

The story was soo interesting as well as intriguing. The world building is vast and unique. The characters development are good and side characters are hilarious and witty Banters. Tension between characters are toe curling. Everything was painfully detailed and more suspense, more mystery and actions. It's third person POV.

The plot had me on the edge from the beginning and kept me turning pages till the end. This is the kind of story that would have you on a choke hold and my god, did I miss the characters already? Hell yea.

Book 2 is releasing on Next Year and it couldn't come sooner.

I think this book is gonna put me in a book slump 😔

I know a lot of reviews say this book is long, and it is. Long af. Unnecessarily long even. However, I think even more than the length, this book has a pacing issue.

The first 50% is a masterpiece- a slow burn, fated mates with warring nations, and soldier training? Art. 🤌🏽
The problem is after the 60% mark, things …. kept dragging?! 😭😭😭😭

I understand building a world, plot, characterisation etc. but there’s only so many times you can hear the same confusing plot machinations with no resolution in a 700+ page book. A fated mates pnr book. Like this isn’t some high fantasy so ….?! Too much skeletal structure not enough meat makes for a boring book indeed ☝🏽

Lastly, we have the insta-lust, which I don’t mind even if it’s not slow burn (which this actually was so thank God) but my issue is after they mate?! Instantly, and I mean, automatically, they exchange I love yous and it’s all understanding and mate bond and sensing each others feelings and blah blah blah 😒

I felt that really detracted from the book and wasn’t consistent with the obstinate, witty and mischievous characters we had been reading about. Definitely could’ve used more relationship development and maybe even a misunderstanding/ separation or two -– which perfect opportunity here because warring nations 😔 but alas it wasn’t to be

I usually dnf books if at 60% I start to not care about the main leads but I persisted and it took me way longer than usual to finish . And now? Now I’m in a reading slump so thanks khadija of the past 😒 😮‍💨

THIS BOOK. Oh my god, this book… 💉 into the veins.

Shifters, witches, fae. High fantasy in a somewhat urban world.
AND THE SPICY ANGSTY JUICY TENSION. 🌶️🌶️
Just IMAGINE.. two fated mates who refuse to touch, (because if they touch the bond will fully form) who are from opposing sides of the political chain.

The FMC was so badass. Fully grumpy but deep down stressed and anxious and trying to be strong and unbothered. When she said “down boy” I SCREAMED. She’s one of my all time favorites.

The angst between these two love interests was what hooked me. The murder mystery kept it going. And the political intrigue.. unreal!
The world building was phenomenal but still left MANY questions open for the next book.
I loved the way the sentences flowed. They were long but easy to read.
I loved the way mental health struggles around trauma were presented. It was so visceral and deep. Chaotic and yet, so easy to follow. It felt like my own brain quite frankly.

I truly don’t know how I can possibly explain how absolutely wonderful this book is. A new ALL TIME FAVOURITE

Ok the torture is over… if you want a knockoff of the first three ACOTAR books but with wolf people and shoved into 800 pages then this is the book for you! But also maybe seek help! The main character bit the inside of her cheek so much I don’t know how she has any cheek left to chomp, see a cheek doctor sis! In the end they didn’t even catch the killer and nothing was solved, so differently different but we’re seeing it here!

5⭐️ I can’t stop recommending this book to anyone who loves adult fantasy romance—it’s everything I want in this genre!

I rarely rate books, because there are so many that I love and recommend but know they aren’t necessarily worthy of a 5⭐️—so I get ratings paralysis 😂 BUT—this I have no hesitation rating 5⭐️’s as for me: this book is the complete package.

What you can expect:

❤️‍🔥 slow burn romance (the tension is THICK)

🐺 wolf shifters

✨ high fantasy (one of the only shifter fantasy romance books I’ve ever read with a truly high fantasy setting and sensibility!)

👗 what’s that trope where they have to attend a formal event and the MMC arranges a dress for the FMC? Whatever it is I am a SUCKER for it, and this particular version is ELITE 🔥

🔎 mystery (almost thriller-ish in terms of plot pace and tension!)

⚔️ kick ass warrior FMC

💕 friendship family (it gave me the same warm feelings I got from the ACOTAR “inner circle”, while also being totally unique!)

📚 bookshop after hours 🍷and shenanigans (yes this is niche but it gets its own dot point because I WANT THIS 😂. Applications for real life bookshop meet up friendship group open!)

🌶️🌶️ spice!

❤️‍🩹 FEELINGS

Cannot wait for the next instalment—brace yourselves as I will very likely continue to be insufferable about this series for the foreseeable future 😉

This book was pretty good but I found the plot very confusing and hard to follow at times, especially towards this middle/to the end. Don’t get me wrong though, I absolutely love political fantasy plots/intricate plots, they are my favourite category in fact. But I felt that this one in particular was very challenging to navigate, and I also guessed the major plot twist. I may read the second book if only to be able to then look on this book retrospectively and see if I can understand it more thoroughly and appreciatively. The romance plot between the MMC and FMC was good despite the other plot issues and was the reason I kept persevering, along with the found family elements as well.

This book could be so great!
But it is just too damn long.
It started off so great! And then it just dragged on so much that the great chemistry of the MCs also just fizzled out. The ending was good again, but by that time I just didn't care anymore... I didn't care about the romance or who`s the bad guy, what hes planning and who lives. Which is really sad, because again, this book had the potential to be so good :/

This one was a CHONKER—and I loved every second of it! The world-building was rich, the stakes were high, and the slow burn between Kai and Isla had me squirming 🥵🔥❤️‍🔥 Their dynamic was absolute gold— The tension simmers beneath every interaction. There’s longing, trust issues, power plays, and just enough tenderness to keep you aching for more. 🖤🔥 A Warrior’s Fate was filled to the brim with rich lore, ancient bloodlines, and magical secrets.

If you’re a fan of long, immersive fantasy with romance that makes you work for it, this one belongs on your shelf 📚

✨ Reluctant allies to lovers
🔥 Slow burn

I really enjoyed the story and the plot! I really liked the main character and it felt more realistic and authentic compared to most fated mates story’s. The only reason it was not five stars was because it definitely got confusing at times. I still don’t understand the rulers and the hierarchy of the world and the multiple realms thing was never explained. Fae, witches, why are they bad? I have no idea 🤷‍♀️ world building needs a lot of help in this book.

Absolutely loved this book! I haven't read too many shifter books but I loved how the shifters have their own modern kingdom and politics in a much more sophisticated way Than I have previously seen. Kai is now tied for my favourite book boyfriend. This book kept me guessing and loving all the mystery and intrigue! The tension was divine!!!

This book has all my fav tropes!

I will give this props for having a better plot to romance ratio than expected, and all together a better plot intrigue than expected. But it’s still rather cringe cheesy and meh. Maybe inching in the 2.5 range but I refuse to round up solely on the author’s overuse of italics that was like nails on a chalkboard

I feel a bit conflicted about this book.
I really enjoyed the world building and plot, but the pacing felt a bit wonky (slow and steady for the majority of the story, only to pick up too much speed in the last quarter) and I think the romance could've used a bit more of care because while it started good and flirty and with good chemistry, once the two MCs got together it felt like they got shoved in the background in favor of the plot.
The world building is pretty intriguing: it's rare to see wolf shifters as protagonists in a "classic" fantasy setting and the modern elements added in threw in some variety....the only complain I have about it is that it made me questions some things and while I think some answers will be given as the series progress, others needed to be addressed in this book and if they'll get answered later, it'll feel like infodump.
Isla and Kai we're both intriguing characters, I'm very curious to see how their story will progress.
I'm curious enough to continue the series, but I think I'll enjoy it better once it's finished and I can just binge read the whole thing.

Well ...how to put into words what this book made me feel ?
It's likle you open the first pages and you're gradually pulled into another realm ...you forget you're actually reading and you experience this incredibly captivating story like you're one of the main characters.

This author is absolutely talented and I can't believe that this is her first book ! The plot has unexpected turns and has you constantly on your toes ... the story itself flows so easily and the amazing thing is that it seems to have its own category ! I've read a lot of werewolf books - it's nothing like the classic "bad boy alpha and poor damsel in distress".
It reminds me of the lord of the rings but not quite .... a bit like game of thrones but again it's more like it's own category with a LOT of potential and I can't wait to read the second book ! I'm sure the Wolves of Morai will be an absolute sucess and I hope to see the author gain the recognition she deserves!

It is an through and carefully-written book - everything comes together and there are no unexplained or irrelevant plotholes- which makes reading it efffortless.

Do yourself the favor and dive into the realms of Deimos, Mimas, Phobos, Mavec, Callisto, Charon, Tethys and many more, where you'll start to fear creatures that you've never heard of and where you'll agonize and laugh alongside the main characters.

p.s. a little sneakpeak ... the second book seems to extend the borders of reality even further ;-) I can't wait to immerse into the realms beyond the Land of Wolves and to learn how everything came to be ...

I’ll go more in depth at some point but loved it over all. Spice scenes were there, just not as flowy and as well described as I wished them to be if that makes sense.

Also this book did not have to be 798 pages kindle version (650jsh physical copy). But the plot and action and banter were well worth to keep reading.

I now need a palette cleanser

"You've barely known me a week.”
"And yet, you've stressed me enough for a lifetime."

Well... just found another fantasy series to obsess over.

I really love how A Warrior's Fate twisted some tropes and added some new surprises. I also like how Isla and Kai decide to ignore their bond, which is something I haven't seen before. These two just mutually decide that they have too much going on to worry with accepting or rejecting a fated mate bond, which is honestly a whole mood. And the slow-burn between these two is fantastic!

I also adore the family and found family dynamics in A Warrior's Fate. Isla and Sebastian actually feel like siblings. I love their dynamic so much! The third member of the trio is their best friend Adrian, who happens to be heir to the Io throne. This trio is just great! There's also some more found family that appears throughout the book, and I just love how supportive they are.

As someone who dislikes the omegaverse ranking system that is prevalent in werewolf / wolf shifter romances, I actually didn't mind the system in AWF. It might've been because the Greek letters were used interchangeably with other terms, such as alpha and king, beta and second-in-command.

The only thing that I didn't love was the struggle to get a good idea of what time period the setting was based on. I think it's more modern? There's mention cars and some other modern inventions, but for the longest time I was picturing the common vaguely medieval fantasy setting.

Overall, this book is fantastic and a solid debut novel! I can't wait to read more novels and novellas set in this universe!

Honestly this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. We have to remember that its self published so there are some grammar errors and its a bit long, however it was perfect. Never thought werewolves would make me feel the same way as SJM’s fae. 10/10. Absolutely adored this book.

On the night of the hunt, which is a trial that Isla must survive in order to gain status as a warrior, she encounters her mate. For wolf shifters, they have to touch one another in order for them to have the ability to either accept the bond or reject it and suffer Fate’s consequences. However, due to their pack’s history with one another, they decided to go with the loophole of never touching and therefore never having to accept or deny the bond. However, it gets harder and harder as Fate pushes them closer and their desire for each other grows. They have to navigate this while also dealing with the tension of everything else that is going on. This was fun read, but it was definitely very long and felt like something’s didn’t need to be so drawn out. I loved reading about these star-crossed lovers and loved seeing Kai and Isla’s relationship grow even as they fought against Fate.
