Joy Goswami is probably the most highly regarded Bengali poet today, a worthy successor, in a land of poets, to Rabindranath Tagore and Jibanananda Das. Although his life has never been easy, his vocation as a poet has never been in doubt. The quality of Goswami’s prolific output has been widely acknowledged in West Bengal and India.

জয় গোস্বামীর জন্ম কলকাতা শহরে। ছোটবেলায় তাঁর পরিবার রানাঘাটে চলে আসে, তখন থেকেই স্থায়ী নিবাস সেখানে। পিতা রাজনীতি করতেন, তাঁর হাতেই জয় গোস্বামীর কবিতা লেখার হাতে খড়ি। ছয় বছর বয়সে তাঁর পিতার মৃত্যু হয়। মা শিক্ষকতা করে তাঁকে লালন পালন করেন।
জয় গোস্বামীর প্রথাগত লেখা পড়ার পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটে একাদশ শ্রেণীতে থাকার সময়। সাময়িকী ও সাহিত্য পত্রিকায় তিনি কবিতা লিখতেন। এভাবে অনেক দিন কাটার পর দেশ পত্রিকায় তাঁর কবিতা ছাপা হয়। এর পরপরই তাঁর খ্যাতি ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। কিছুদিন পরে তাঁর প্রথম কাব্য সংকলন ক্রিসমাস ও শীতের সনেটগুচ্ছ প্রকাশিত হয়। ১৯৮৯ সালে তিনি ঘুমিয়েছ, ঝাউপাতা কাব্যগ্রন্থের জন্য আনন্দ পুরস্কার লাভ করেন। ২০০০ সালের আগস্ট মাসে তিনি পাগলী তোমার সঙ্গে কাব্য সংকলনের জন্য সাহিত্য অকাদেমি পুরস্কার লাভ করেন।
