Rate this book
Her biggest worry is starting college. Until she wakes up with a new identity... in another dimension!

Lily never imagined magic was real—until she woke up in a world where everyone believes she’s a princess with deadly secrets.

In Orthedale, magic rules, danger lurks behind every corner, and doppelgängers are more than myth. Lily soon learns that her father’s fate is tied to the king’s, and a deadly plot here threatens her family back on Kaua'i. So, she must play her biggest role yet as Princess Lilliana, all while trying to uncover the truth behind a conspiracy that could destroy everything Lily loves.

With enemies hiding in plain sight and a growing connection to Drew—the doppelgänger of her crush back home—Lily’s heart is torn. But one thing is she can’t stay in Orthedale. As the plot to kill the king intensifies, she’ll have to unravel the mystery, stop the coup, and find a way home—
before time runs out for both worlds.

I’ve read books where someone shifts to another world and has to figure things out there, but never one where everyone has their own doppelganger. It added an unexpected dimension when things that happened in one world affected not only the heroine, but many others.

The book starts with two grandmothers who know the old, forbidden magic, who force a switch between Lily (shy high-schooler here) and Liliana (arrogant princess in Orthedale) because Liliana is about to commit treason. There are great side characters and a deliciously evil villain. What starts as a switch to avoid a problem grows in intensity, and then the stakes get higher in ways I didn’t expect. The author did a good job with character development, themes, and out-of-the-box thinking, and I got to where I couldn’t put it down. It ends completely on its own, but gives an inkling of a possible sequel—I hope she writes it!

Yes, I'm the author, so I'm totally biased. This was a love project for me with the help of some of grandkids who live on Kauai.
