I read this just to see how text books deal with sociological materials. As a read it was fine, as a text book for students it is a Nightmare. God, i feel bad for all the students that have to study this. What on earth were the authors thinking?! Why is the information scattered all over the place? It is a mess and confusing. Especially the family chapter, that was hell. You want to deal with functionalists views on a certain ascpect, deal with it all the way, do not put bits and pieces here and there . And why on earth does a book, by Cambridge, does not contains the info or socilogical materials that are mentioned in their AS and A level mark schemes. (yea i went there also to check the questions). The info in this book need serious rearranging .

Comprehensive would be one way to put it. The book is 330 pages of two columned text, which gives you a thorough grounding in sociology. I think I can compare it to a 'Sociology 101' class. I didn't 'like' this book but I sure as hell read it.

riddled with typos, convoluted, horribly disorganised, and enough repetition that that i wanted to rip my hair out (there are multiple paragraphs that are literally just copy pasted repeatedly). i cannot in good conscience recommend this to any fellow a-levels students. do urself a favour and get the purple book instead. and yes i'm still counting it in my reading challenge idc

This was my bible for 2 years. It deserves to be marked as read on Goodreads.
