In Kimberly Van Meter's sweet romance, A CAUSE FOR JUSTICE, opposites attract in this small-town where love and the power of family can heal any wound.

Justice Montgomery believes in fighting for what she believes in -- even if no one else supports her cause. So what if she's been accused of being more of an eco-terrorist than an eco-warrior -- if her father could handle the heat, so could she. Besides, it's up to her to pick up where her father left off and it's a responsibility she shoulders with honor, haters be damned.

So when she faces off against land developer Mason Broderick, determined to stop a building project that will harm an indigenous owl, she doesn't care that she's standing relatively alone. But Justice isn't prepared for the wildly inappropriate attraction to the brusque developer and finds herself walking a slippery slope between fighting for what's right and fighting her heart.

Mason Broderick doesn't let anything get in his way of success. He's brought his grandfather's company back from the brink of bankruptcy through sheer ruthless determination and nothing -- not even a stubborn, slip of a pretty woman -- is going to stop him. Yeah, so he's attracted to her in the most inappropriate way and when she's not driving him crazy, she's driving him C-R-A-Z-Y but nothing is going to stop this project., not even his own growing feelings for the pint-sized eco-menace. Except, when Mason drags a terrible secret out of Justice's closet, he inadvertently sets in motion a wheel that might just crush the very thing that he never knew he wanted.

When the two most stubborn, hard-headed people fall in love with one another...there's bound to be trouble but if they can see past their differences to the one thing they can't deny...it might just be the best thing they have ever known.

The following full-length novel of approximately 80,000 is an original work of fiction.

EXCERPT:

"Ahh, Broderick, I assume?"

"That's right," he said, bracketing his hips with his hands. "And you must be this infamous Montgomery I've heard so much about."

"Only my friends call me Montgomery...and you are not my friend," she said. "I am the president of Stop Environmentally Irresponsible Development, Justice Montgomery. You may address as me as Miss Montgomery."

Miss. Not that he was surprised. He couldn't imagine who would want to marry a crazy loon who would actually tie herself to a tree, no matter how easy on the eyes she was. Why were the pretty ones always nuts? "Forgive me, but it's hard to take you seriously. Do you know how ridiculous you look? Don't have you better things to do than whatever it is you think you're doing here?"

"Don't patronize me," she said coolly, looking down her pert little nose at him as if he were a kid in need of schooling. "For your information, I take great pride in championing causes that matter to the environment. I, for one, would like to leave this earth in better shape than how I found it. Unlike you who would gladly rape and pillage Mother Earth for a paltry buck."

"Not a paltry buck but a handful, sure," he said, shrugging, knowing his flippant comment would poke at a raw nerve.

Everyone in the small town of Serenity Falls knows Justice Montgomery because they all helped raise her. Her father was an idealist and was often fighting for one cause or another and Justice wanted to be just like him or at least honor his memory. So, when big time land developer Mason Broderick comes to Serenity Falls to pave over the habitat of an indigenous owl for his building project, Justice knew she had to do something to stop it. Naturally, she chained herself to the largest tree in Indian Rock Meadow and the project came to a screeching halt.

Developer Mason Broderick had never met anyone like Justice Montgomery before but he knew he would win this show down. All he needed was leverage, something from her past to convince Justice to back down. Meanwhile, Mason and Justice come to a tenuous truce and discover they may even like each other. But the secrets that Mason discovers about Justice is devastating and the fall out is destroying their developing love.

Contemporary romance author Kimberly Van Meter delights her readers with two equally stubborn characters in A CAUSE FOR JUSTICE set in the wooded beauty of small town Serenity Falls. The witty banter between Mason and Justice encourages readers to root for their favorite. But as we readers become invested in the cause each character champions, we can't help but hope that they come to a mutual agreement, even after Mason blindsides Justice with a crushing family secret. A CAUSE FOR JUSTICE by talented Kimberly Van Meter is total reading pleasure.

The aptly-named Justice is a perfect heroine --- idealistic, troubled, and quickly losing her heart to the worst possible man. But as you read, Mason will begin to grow on you as well until you're soon rooting for the pair to make it work.

The book starts with a bang, introducing the couple to each other in a cute and striking scene. Justice is tied to a tree while attempting to halt a development that will destroy spotted owl habitat, and Mason's the hard-nosed developer wanting the pesky young woman off his turf.

Predictable antics ensue, but there are several twists in this charming novel that will likely throw you for a loop. I won't spoil the plot, but will say that Justice has a dark past, one that she's not even aware of...but one that Mason has already sussed out.

As a final note, I particularly appreciated the heat level in this book, which was quite mild. Rather than filling the pages with bedroom scenes, Van Meter instead builds romance the old-fashioned way, with kindness and caring.

So start reading for the owls, and finish for the sweet romance. Who doesn't love an environmentally friendly happily ever after?
