This book is not meant for professionals. It states that it is both for the layman and the doctor, but that seems like marketing to me, so that those reading it feel they are reading a scientific book that will solve a lot of problems. I believe that's a misdirection. The book has some drawbacks. For starters, it is getting a little old, but you can't help that. Secondly, the base for a lot of the data the author takes for granted, SPECT, has a lot of false positives, rendering the data inaccurate. Third, it uses a lot of words to say very little information. He could have written the whole extent of the book in a pamphlet and be just as profound. Last but not least, a lot of what the book says has not been proven, and it even acknowledges that it is contrary to what most studies say. Everything should be taken with more than a few grains of salt.
ADHD is difficult to manage. The roads we travel for proper treatment are even more stressful to manage because one size does not fit all! However, as an ADDer, every bit of information (true or false) is important if you’re trying to survive the downside of ADHD. The question for me still remains...is it a gift or a curse?
Straightforward information with no b.s. could have more in depth info. Little about pharmacology and brain. Think guidelines could be a little clearer. Seems more like a pamphlet of information but the information is worth reading.
Before reading this book, I wasn’t aware of all the harm I was doing by not eating breakfast and lunch, and not getting enough sleep. It all plays a part. I’m ready to take charge and advocate for myself.
