Motherhood and murder link five very different women when a working-class detective clashes with wealthy moms in this upmarket thriller in the vein of May Cobb and Jeneva Rose.

Anderson Tupper, a member of one of Atlanta’s richest families, has been murdered in the dugout of the Little League field where he was a volunteer coach, and it’s up to Detective Shay Claypool, a single mother from the other side of town, to find his killer.

With the exclusive area of Buckhead threatening to secede from the city of Atlanta and take its tax revenue with it, Shay is under pressure to solve the murder of one of Buckhead’s own. Accustomed to handling drug dealers and prostitutes, she must now contend with an even more sinister the Buckhead Betties, the insufferably entitled women of Georgia’s most affluent zip code. One of them might be a murderer, but who? Is it the old-money queen of Buckhead? The mysterious new girl in town? The drug dealing trophy wife?

It seems secrets and lies are as plentiful as luxury handbags in Atlanta and everyone’s guilty of something. Shay’s investigation will make her examine her own prejudices and discover that, as women and mothers, she might not be that different from the Betties after all. And if she isn’t careful, they just might take her down with them.

How is this a debut??! 😍 I loved it!! Thank you so much @mbc_books @crookedlanebooks for my gorgeous gifted copy!! Pub day was yesterday 8/12! 🥳🥳 I couldn’t put it down. When I had to put it down I listened to the audiobook which was fantastic. 😍 🎧 @spotify

I have had SO much FOMO over this book. I mean the cover.. the title… It definitely delivered. Let me tell you.. this was like Desperate Housewives Southern edition.😂 These Buckhead Betty’s were WILD. 😳😂

This book had everything you could want. Absolutely entertaining… twisted and FUN. What a sketchy bunch of rich people behaving badly. Y’all better watch your husbands. 😂😬 Just saying.. 🤷‍♀️

This scandalous murderous thriller took a turn that I never saw coming!! 😳👏👏

Highly recommend!! 5 scandalous ⭐️ stars.

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bless your Hart is what southern people say, which is not always a good thing. More of a passive aggressive comment.

This novel is set in the wealthy part of Atlanta. The newcomer shows up to the local little league game where some parents take it very serious. Some of the ladies are catty and others welcome the new comer. A fight breaks out and the murder of the local coach shocks everyone.

Every person has their own motives. Jealousy, affairs, drugs and more make this one a fun whodunit. How much do we really know our neighbors?

I was completely shocked at who the murder was. Thank you MB communications and the author for having me on tour. This was a debut and I cannot wait for her next book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

Anderson Tupper, a member of one of Atlanta’s richest families, has been murdered in the dugout of the Little League field where he was a volunteer coach, and it’s up to Detective Shay Claypool, a single mother from the other side of town, to find his killer.

Whew, what started as a slow burn ended with a bang and a jaw dropping moment! This story is told in 3 timelines, months before the murder, days before the murder, and days after the murder. It’s also told in multiple POVs, the mothers of the little league team (Kira, Birdie, Amelia, Sutton, and and Venita), the detective on the case (Shay), and a POV I won’t reveal.

The story did bounce around a lot, so it was hard getting to know each character or remembering who was who. Something that all characters did, along with me, was make assumptions about everyone. You would make assumptions as to “who done it” only to be proven wrong.

The story had 3 “twists” and I had a feeling about the first one. The two twists that came after, well one of them my jaw dropped and the last one, I smiled and said “good for her.” Overall, a slower paced book but worth it! These women were absolutely outrageous and I loved every minute.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for a copy of this e-book in exchange for my honest review.

"Bless Your Heart" presents a wonderfully suspenseful and scandalous narrative that keeps readers engaged throughout. Dunlap’s talent for character development truly shines, as each figure is crafted with depth and nuance. The story ramps up in intensity during the latter half, bringing twists and turns that are both surprising and satisfying. However, with its plethora of characters and interwoven storylines, this novel demands your full attention to truly grasp the intricacies at play. Overall, it's a gripping read that balances drama and complexity beautifully!

ARC REVIEW - BLESS YOUR HEART by Leigh Dunlap
4.5 STARS - OUT NOW

Detective Shay Claypool is investigating a murder mystery in Buckhead. "Bless Your Heart" brings “Real Housewives” energy mixed with country club drama. The Buckhead Betties have secrets tucked under their blowouts, and you just know there’s a storm brewing behind those polite smiles!

Shay’s new in town, bringing street smarts and Southern sparkle. Watching her dodge mommy hierarchies, old money mind games, and PTA showdowns kept me on edge. These social politics could fill a true crime docuseries. Just when I thought I knew these ladies, Dunlap added a twist of venom or a dash of realness. This murder mystery has just enough poison to stay spicy.

The humor lands just when needed, lightening the mood without lowering the stakes. Some characters are absurdly fun and made me giggle. Impressive for a debut: the voice, pacing, and character layers are all on point!

I chose the audiobook for “Bless Your Heart” and was instantly obsessed. Every messy, juicy reveal had me grinning like I’d heard the juiciest gossip. It’s southern sweet tea on the surface, but there’s a sneaky shot of bourbon underneath. All polite and charming until, surprise, scandal crashes the party!

It’s a solid 4.5 stars from me. I’m already stalking Leigh Dunlap’s next move.

I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but it really is the year of the debut. This book wasn’t on my radar until I was sent a copy (thank you @crookedlanebooks for being awesome) but I am so glad I read it.

A slow burn mystery filled with some big jaw dropping twists, salacious and juicy rich people behaving badly and all the secrets whilst in Buckhead Bay Atlanta. It was as wild as a Real House Wives episode and so much freaking fun.

All the characters are vapid and make assumptions about each other ( I did as well) and it really led to me not seeing the ending, which blew me away. Get this on your summer TBR and end it with a bang! You won’t be sorry!

Leigh Dunlap is a new author to me and when I read the blurb for this book I was intrigued.

This is a story of five women, all completely different, some with very strong personalities and senses of entitlement who live in the upmarket town of Buckhead. All these women have complicated domestic lives with husbands and children, themes of drug addiction and alcohol issues, some who even though very different have forged unconventional friendships and others who are not liked.

Shay Claypool is a detective, straight talking and not one to suffer fools. Along with her partner Dub she is determined to infiltrate this group and find out who murdered the Anderson Tupper, one of the richest families in Atlanta, a complicated bunch who are hiding secrets of wealth and the financial activities that go with it.

This is an entertaining read that I finished in an afternoon. It is one of those books that you keep turning the pages, quite humorous at times and it is the characters that shine to enable the plot to move along and keep you interested to see how it will all wrap up.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.

What a uniquely captivating book that grabs you from the very first page! If you've followed my reviews, you know that a striking cover always catches my eye. When the cover is appealing, I just know I'm in for a good read!

In this upmarket thriller, wealthy motherhood clashes with working-class values when Detective Shay Claypool is assigned to investigate the murder of Anderson Tupper, a rich Little League coach killed in Buckhead, Atlanta. As Shay navigates the tensions between her background and the entitled "Buckhead Betties," she faces pressure to solve the case amidst secrets and lies. With several suspects, including an old-money queen, a mysterious newcomer, and a trophy wife, Shay must confront her own biases and the similarities she shares with these affluent women, all while staying safe from the dangers the investigation uncovers.

We dive into the story the day after a murder, and the timeline shifts around, keeping us on our toes. As the events unfold, we gradually piece together the plot, which is not only easy to follow but also filled with suspense! The narrative gives us perspectives from several characters: Detective Shay, Kira, Venita, Sutton, Amelia, and Birdie. With each character, dark secrets begin to emerge, and you'll want to delve into their stories to discover where they all lead! The book reads like the drama of Atlanta's high-society moms—it's intricately crafted and well-thought-out.

This is perfect for anyone who enjoys a fast-paced read with short chapters and easily distinguishable characters. Plus, if you love unexpected twists and puzzle pieces that only come together at the end, this book is for you. So, get ready to lose yourself in this gripping story on a rainy afternoon; it's hard to put down and incredibly entertaining. Who knows, it might even find its way onto the small screen!

Thank you, ThrillerBookLoversThePulse for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Bless Your Heart was a fast paced southern charm mystery thriller. Leigh Dunlap’s debut novel had a lot of rich housewives, drama, social satire.

When a member of one of Atlanta's richest families, Anderson Tupper, was found murdered in the dugout of the Little League field where he had volunteered as a coach, Detective Shay, a single mother from the other side of town, was determined to find his killer among a group of wealthy mothers where secrets and lies were as plentiful as their luxurious handbags.

Leigh Dunlap is new author to the literary world. She wove together a story that was equal parts murder mystery and social satire. I appreciated how she considered heavier issues such as race, class, and money while delivering a light peripheral dialogue. The plot was unique and had me intrigued enough to read in its entirety. The characters were relatable but many had the personalities that you couldn’t help but love to hate.

Despite this not being one of my favorite debuts, I was intrigued by this new author and how her novel challenged everyone’s assumptions about privilege and justice.

Collectively, Bless Your Heart was a fun and entertaining read from the start and had me waiting on edge to ascertain who was the culprit until the very end. I will be keeping a look out for more entertaining novels by Leigh Dunlap. If you are a fan of May Cobb or enjoy a mix of social sarcasm and murder mystery, you will want to check out this one.

Moms behaving badly? Yes, please. Fk around and find out. If there’s one thing everyone should know, it’s that you don’t mess with a momma bear - even the nicest of us will claw your face off with a gardening rake if we have to. Gloves included.

It’s simple: Don’t mess with our kids.

Welcome to Buckhead - where even murder is done with a touch of class and style, little league is taken as seriously as the Super Bowl, and you always end your backhanded jabs with a sly little “Bless Your Heart.” Welcome to the South - charm included.

🎧: I also recommend the audio for this one. Hallie Ricardo does a phenomenal job bringing these characters to life. Superb narrating - I have zero complaints.

But someone has indeed been murdered and now detectives must figure out who, what, when, why. FAT CAT. MUST TOUCH. But with this cast of characters, they’ve got their work cut out for them.

Secrets, power, control, and money - these women have worked hard for everything they have and no one will stand in their way of keeping - or getting - anything they want.
Oof. Buckle up because this is a blast of a read. With short chapters, a sharp plot, and twists and turns galore, this is an easy five star read.

Fully enjoyed this one.

I was so far off base on this one and it made me love this book even more! I always love a good mama drama meets whodunnit and this blended both perfectly.

I loved the Georgia setting, the over the top wealth, the cliches, and the wild personalities. Each character was so unique and so different from what I would have expected. Sutton-the fake hair, fake breasts, fake everything, gold digger-is pedaling drugs on the side. Birdie-born into mega-money, queen B, married to the philanderer-flips the body image standards upside down. Amelia-sweet, thought she married for love, in Birdie's shadow-is a raging shopaholic.

When good looking, well-known Anderson Tupper ends up murdered on the Little League baseball diamond, there are plenty of suspects to consider. Could it be a jealous boyfriend or husband of one of Anderson's conquests? Could it be one of the many people he financially ruined? Or maybe it was someone he owed money to? Options abound and I was way off on all my predictions!

I enjoyed the multiple narrators, occasional flashbacks, and side plots. The women were entertaining and I was very much caught up in all the glamour and drama.

Bless Your Heart has been superbly popular over at The Pulse and I'm glad I finally got to see what all the hype is about! It's available now so don't miss it!

“ Accept others for who they are. Not for who you think they should be.”

No way this is a debut! Snobby mom group, rich neighborhood drama, baseball and murder.? Um yes please! Told in multiple POVs and a past/present timeline. I was invested from the very beginning. I could not read this one fast enough. The plot twist and ending had my jaw on the floor. At one point I gasped out loud and scared my husband. Do yourself a favor and add this to your TBR!

Bless Your Heart by Leigh Dunlap. Thanks to @mbc for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Anderson, a member of Atlanta’s richest family, is found murdered it’s up to Detective Shay to find his killer. This requires her dive into the lives of the Buckhead Betties, a group of entitled, affluent women. Shay may be used to drug dealers and prostitutes, but she is certainly not familiar with this type of group.

I loved the ending of this one and how the mystery turned out. It ended up having a depth that I was not expecting. The writing style takes a little time in the beginning but once you get hooked and know all the characters, it starts to go a lot faster. I loved all the women and how even with their wealth and privilege, they kept their convictions. It was refreshing because a lot of books about this class of women paint them all as vapid and malicious.

“It’s almost always about drugs, sex, or money.”

Bless Your Heart comes out 8/12.

The title of this book was expertly written! And that cover, if that doesn't get your attention, well I just have no words! I didn't even need to know what this story was about, I knew just by looking at it, it was going to be a very intriguing and entertaining story! And it did NOT disappoint!! The most fun SOUTHERN mystery, WHODUNNIT story I've ever read and it's a debut novel, I mean whaaaaaat!?!? This is Desperate housewives meets the Housewives of Atlanta in the best way! What is better than a murder amongst a group of rich and sometimes slightly crazy, deceitful, competitive, dysfunctional housewives who are also feisty baseball moms? The story is fast-paced, with many layers, filled with snark and scandal, that keeps you on your toes. I did not want to put this down and I did not see the final twist coming!

Anderson Tupper, who is part of one of the wealthiest and most notable families in all of Atlanta, Georgia, is also a baseball coach to some of the most wealthiest 12 year old boys in Buckhead. Also home of the BUCKHEAD BETTIES, a group of very rich and entitled women in the most affluent neighborhood. However, Anderson is found MURDERED in the dugout at the little league field. Now it's up to Detective Shay Claypool, who lives on the other side of town and is a single mother, who is non-rich and entitled. She may have met her match with the Buckhead Betties! It's up to her to figure out who killed Anderson. With so many suspects, secrets and lies, can Detective Shay solve the case or will the Betties get in her way? It seems that several people may have had a reason to want Anderson dead. But why?

Told in multiple POVs from the 5 women, with the past and present timeline, the author serves up a delectable, scandalous bowl of murder centered around catty rich women who will do anything to save their marriages and protect their children. They always get what they want!

I absolutely devoured this story! I could not read it fast enough! It was so entertaining, I laughed at the snarky humor and it left my jaw on the floor with the twistiest of twists! And that ending was chef's kiss!

For fans of Jeneva Rose (One of Us is Dead), Liv Constantine, or A.R. Torre, you will love BLESS YOUR HEART!! This would make a great series on Netflix (cough, cough)!

I am rating this 5 exhilarating and intoxicating glasses of the sweetest wine! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

I cannot wait to see what this author writes next!

Still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that this was a DEBUT novel. I mean, what?!? This was such an addicting read from the very start and I was eating it up!

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I LOVE my thrillers with a dash of wealthy housewives harboring secrets! Five affluent women, The Buckhead Betties, all have motive to want the well-known Anderson Tupper dead. Alibis are tested, secrets are revealed and this upscale Atlanta town is turned upside down while the rumor mill goes into overdrive. As the local detectives begin their high-profile investigation, it’s clear that they don’t care how much money you have, what country club you belong to or what NFL team you may have played for.

Each of these women are guilty of something, but are any of them truly capable of murder?

Bless Your Heart is out now and I highly recommend thriller fans check this one out ASAP! Super excited to see what this author comes up with next!!

Do not let the sweet Southern title fool you. This one has teeth.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up completely pulled in. It’s twisty, a little wild, and way more layered than I expected. You get the mystery and the shock, but there is also this thread of humor and Southern attitude running through it that makes it feel really alive instead of heavy.

I had a great time with it. The suspects kept shifting for me, the social drama added fuel to the fire, and the reveals actually landed. Nothing felt cheap or thrown in just for effect.

Also, I have to say it again because it deserves it. This is a debut. And it reads like an author who already knows exactly what they are doing. I’ve had a couple debut reads this year that seriously impressed me, and this is right there with them.

If you like your thrillers with personality, secrets, and a sharp edge - pick this up

An absolutely incredible debut novel set in the wealthy part of Atlanta. The Buckhead Betties were wild and completely what you would expect on the set of Housewives of Wherever. Just enough salacious gossip, secrets galore and a mystery that kept me guessing all the way through the story. As the title goes, Bless Your Heart isn’t always something nice.

Well it’s been a couple of days since I finished Leigh Dunlap’s debut Bless Your Heart and I still can’t get the characters and story out of my head. I went into this book knowing this was being compared to Desperate Housewives, but truly, it was so much more and so much better.

Shay, an Atlanta police detective, investigates a slaying in Buckhead, the very elite and very wealthy suburb of Atlanta. A very prominent member of one of Atlanta’s wealthiest family who is also the Little League coach to a team of 11 year olds has been found bludgeoned in his own Little League dugout.

Enter the “Buckhead Betties”, the moms of the 11 year olds, each with massive secrets of their own, any of which could be suspects.

This book was a hoot and even though you’re really not meant to, I couldn’t help falling in love with every one of these crazy but very intriguing moms.

I love twisty books, and I never in a million years could have guessed the big twist in this one. Brilliant!

I read this book within 24 hours and could not finish it fast enough. Well done to Leigh Dunlap!

I just finished & the word “wow” flew from my thoughts. Having lived in the Atlanta area I already knew of these women known as “Buckhead Betty’s”, so this story of murder & deceit pulled me right in. It was so easy to picture, knowing these areas written about in their comings & goings. But the way the author wrote of each character, I could easily picture them as well & felt like I knew them. Great for a debut, but not shocked it was great, coming from this author. By 60% in I was sure I knew who the murderer was - not based solely on what was written, but by my clever deduction. I was wrong! Great twist.

A sassy Desperate Housewives-esque story about murder, backstabbing, and secrets. Told in multiple POVs and timelines (before and after the murder of a baseball coach), it took a little while to keep the characters straight. These women were entertaining and over-the-top and it was fun to watch as the author poked fun at the ultra rich and their privilege in a Buckhead community in Atlanta.

I liked the short chapters and the breezy writing style made this a quick, fun read. My fellow Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse members enjoyed it too!

Readers who like fun murder reads about the ultra rich behaving badly should check this one out.

Loved this page turner! Quick chapters, interesting characters and a good mystery kept my attention. While the main “Buckhead Betties” were certainly a bit caricature/almost silly in their characteristics, and certainly some unbelievable behavior for some of them, I appreciated the accuracy of Atlanta neighborhoods, landmarks and details - down to the butter saltines at PDC! Great, entertaining novel. Looking forward to more from this author.

A terrific book!
I could barely put it down.
I didn’t really care who killed Anderson but when the truth came out I was shocked.
I had so much fun laughing at the author’s descriptions of the pretentious snotty people, large and little.
My favorite character was Shay and she’s definitely cooler than Crockett!
I loved all the cultural references and was glad I had a front row seat for the action, although periodically I thought I’d choke from laughing so hard.

Wow...what a debut! I can’t believe Bless Your Heart is Leigh Dunlap’s first novel because it reads like it was written by a seasoned pro. The Buckhead Bettys...oh, how everyone loves to hate them. Half the time, they don’t even like each other, and honestly, that made the story even more fun to read. These women are catty, sharp-tongued, and a little over the top, but Dunlap builds them so vividly that you end up hating them, rooting for them, and somehow loving them all at once.

Kira, the new girl in town, shakes things up the moment she arrives. The Buckhead Bettys aren’t sure they want her in their tight little circle...even if she is a famous author. Between Birdie, Sutton, Amelia, Kira, and Venita, each woman is juggling her own problems, pretending everything’s perfect while their home lives are anything but. The one thing that binds them? Their sons’ baseball team and the charming Coach Anderson Tupper.

That is, until he turns up dead. 💀

Suddenly, all the Bettys (and even some of their husbands) become suspects. Enter Detective Shay Claypool, a single mom from the other side of town who’s not about to let their designer handbags and smug smiles intimidate her. She and her partner Dub have their own battles inside the department, but the pressure is on to solve the case and in Buckhead, everyone has something to hide.

The ending? Let’s just say it hits harder than a Buckhead bank account. 💸
I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to see what Leigh Dunlap writes next.

Bless Your Heart by Leigh Dunlap 4/5⭐️

Anderson Tupper, a member of one of the wealthiest families in Atlanta, is found dead. It is up to detective Shay Claypool to solve the case. The problem is Shay is from the other side of town, and isn’t use to dealing with the wealthy. Shay begins to realize money doesn’t buy happiness and the folks in the area of Buckead have a lot of secrets of their own. She will have to weed through all the suspects to find out who really did kill Tupper.

💍💍💍💍💍

I really enjoyed this novel. I liked how Dunlap created this town full of secrets and deception and characters who each had their own issues. This novel held my interest the whole time. It was nice having the point of views of numerous characters in the story. I had my suspicions on who the killer was, but I did not see the ending coming.
