Cal Shepard and his elite black-ops team thought they were embarking on a quick retrieval mission in Africa. Until an EMP device is activated and severs their cord back to civilization.
After receiving an urgent mission prompt from Perseus, Cal Shepard and the Critical Response Team are off to the remote wilderness of eastern Namibia to retrieve a downed Russian satellite. Only this is no ordinary satellite...it’s equipped with a weaponized EMP device that the Kremlin wants back at any cost.
Just before reaching the crash site, the EMP is activated by a tribal militant in the Kalahari Desert, rendering all of CRT’s tech, comms, and their link to Perseus useless. Now, their only chance is to trek north across the open desert to the small town of Nema near the Angolan border.
Except a Russian kill squad is also on their trail, and one of their cadre is a seasoned mantracker.
Battling hostile militants, the Russians, and Angolan mercenaries, Shepard and his eclectic crew must use all of their ingenuity and skills to survive against overwhelming enemies and an unforgiving landscape.
Volume 6 in the high-octane Search & Destroy Series by JT Sawyer.
The whole premise of the book is an EMP device takes out all electricity and electrical devices within a 150km radius, planes and helicopters literally fall out of the sky, and yet Cal uses a torch to look in the back of a dark truck even though every other electrical device is disabled., They then ambush some baddies who arrive in three trucks, how are they still operational, three baddies escape the melee with iPhone footage of the attack, how does that work? Got fed up by the inconsistencies about 30% thru the book, don’t waste your time! J T Sawyer used to write fairly well researched stories, this one ain’t one of them. 😡
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story begins with a Russian satellite crashing to Earth. The satellite was carrying a EMP divice that the Russians wanted back. The Russians were not the only ones. It seemed that a General or a terror group as well as the U.S. also wanted it as well. Cal and the CRT were sent to retrieve it, but things went downhill just before they got it. It seemed that one of the individuals who got there first set the device off and the CRT helicopter crashed as well as the plane that carried the Russians. What thsi meant was that none of the gear that Cal had was operational and they would have to go old-school as they tried to leave the country.
Read along and discover what Cal's team had to overcome besides the Russian group that was following them. There is a lot of action and the story will keep your interest.
The ending will answer all questions. Don't miss out!
Action packed and more villains that will make your head spin. I was lost during the first 1/4 of the book and all the other groups after the same device. Granted 3 were villain groups, but it was hard to keep them straight. I finally succeeded - yea me! I wish the one woman in the story had her name consistent, was either Viper or Simira. I realized first one is military name, but still confusing when you start reading at first.
Very emotional at times, violence, characters written with depth, unique storyline, great main and secondary characters. Near the end we even get a romance developing. You will have to suspend belief on some of the way the good guys escaped over and over. There wasn't a dull moment for sure!
No cliffhanger, HEA, crude words used, one Lord's name used in vain and one small editing issue.
I can't improve on the blurb, just recommending this story and giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)
I love this series and Sawyer doesn’t disappoint. Action packed and a story that barely lets you breathe keep you flipping pages. Shepard and crew face terrible odds but somehow manage to overcome using wits and skills that they have honed to such precision the bad guys stand no chance. Great Read!
This latest novel in the Cal Shepard series rockets along with plenty of action and a plot that’s easy to follow. Author Sawyer does a great job helping the reader “see” the terrain and visualize the scenes. The dialogue of the showdown is a little much, but overall another excellent adventure.
A Russian satellite crashes in Africa, and Cal's team, various Russians, and African militias want it. When the satellite is found, things go very wrong, and the entire country finds itself in danger.
An outstanding espionage thriller with the Black Ops fighting over whelming enemies in unforgiving landscapes. A page turning read with plenty of non-stop action and lots of enemies to defeat. Very enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
Hunted is a nail biting story with lots of action and a believable plot which I truly hope will never become true. Fast-paced and well-written is a must-read for the lovers of the genre. I thank the author for the free copy of the book.
