This was quite a bit spicier than the first book.
I enjoyed the plot development, but felt like the focus was more on the sexytimes in this one.
I am a little miffed that this is not a duo and I now need to wait for the next book😢
Felt like there could have been further plot development had the sex been culled a bit more. Trilogy vs duo might be nice depending where this plot moves to next.🤷‍♀️
Another wonderful narration from M.K. Blackwood and hoping they are on the next book too🤞

I was so excited to find out what happens to Sophie and her consorts after the cliffhanger in book 1, and the author did not disappoint. Picking up where Book 1 left off, Sophie is determined to complete her harem and is reluctantly falling into her new role as queen—even if she has no idea what she’s doing.

Sophie’s character development as she transitions from an obscure librarian to the vampire queen is a key narrative element in book 2. From growing her relationship with her son to working out how to relate to her Prime Consort,Javier, Sophie must face her traumas and reconcile the past, so she can move forward and fulfill her destiny. It was both emotional and satisfying to watch her realistically navigate these challenges and that makes her such a relatable character.

The plot is well paced and comes with answers, some which leave you with more questions. Interspersed throughout the plot are super spicy scenes—I mean this is a 4 chili pepper scorcher people! If you like your vampire why choose books with a smart plot, Greek mythology and touch her and 💀 vibes all wrapped up in a Gothic Mansion, this series is for you. OMG - and that cliffhanger—why, Lindsey??!?!?

Book 3 cannot come out fast enough for me! Thank you, Lindsey Sparks for the ARC. As always, these are my own honest thoughts and opinions.

Wow! Lindsey Sparks has done it again! This book was so good, and it swept me away to another world. I absolutely devoured this book (how could I not after that ending??) and was so happy to dive back into Sophie's world with her consorts. I loved how the world building continued here as Sophie learns more about her past and vampires. A lot of new things are introduced/discovered and it kept me at the edge of my seat until the end. I also feel like the emotional depth of this book was greater than book one, which I enjoyed. We got to see deeper connections with her consorts and new connections while Sophie processed a lot of her feeling. I also feel like I got to see Sophie learn to be more confident with herself and her powers, especially during that one badass scene near the end (one of my favs hehe)!! Of course, the spice was delicious, dare I say even hotter than book one 👀 I really love this series because the spice is integrally part of the plot. Sophie learns a lot about herself and her consorts through their communions, while also having a good time. I can't wait for book two, especially after that ending AGAIN 😭😭

This book had a little bit of everything I enjoy- vampires, shifters, magic, mystery, multiple consorts, humor, spice, and enough suspense to keep me curious. There was a nice balance between action and intrigue, keeping the story moving while still giving plenty to uncover along the way.

I listened to the audiobook, and M.K. Blackwood did an excellent job with the narration. With such a large cast of characters, it would have been easy for everyone to start blending together, but each character was distinct enough that I could easily tell them apart. That made following the story effortless and really added to my enjoyment of the audiobook.

Overall, I had a genuinely good time with this one. There’s plenty of action, mystery, spice, etc. And the ending? Talk about leaving me hanging! I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens in book 3.

This was the development that I was seeking in book one! I enjoyed the lore, the continued development for Sophie, and the growth in this worlds' foundation.

Do I feel like one of our guys hoarded her attention? Slightly. 🤣 This has left me wanting to dive deeper into her bonds with our other guys AND I just want that one bond to be fulfilled by a well-loved spirit. 🥰 So on book three -- I'm hoping that for resolution and the choice that would offer her. ✨️ While the twists were a bit expected at times, I found myself really enjoying the unraveling of this world and the challenges that Sophie is facing.

As an audiobook, M. K. Blackwood shows up so well in offering versatility!

This book went a lot more into the history of this world and had the FMC coming into her own as a strong powerful leader! The book definitely ends making you feel invested and excitedly wanting more!

My dumbass thought we’d get some answers, but all I got was more questions. But that’s fine because these twists are fucking perfection, and I know you’ll deliver eventually, you fucking devious little genius. I freaking love you, thanks for sharing your story early with me! After the brutal ending of book 1, the second book in this fantastic why-choose paranormal romance series couldn’t come fast enough. Where book 1 saw Sophie taking her rightful place and learning about what and who she is, GUARDIAN OF BLOOD AND SHADOW switches gears just a bit and shows us a woman who is still trying to figure it all out. She’s still grappling with her powers, she’s still figuring out how everything works with her harem/consorts and while she’s gotten some answers, so much is still unknown.

This book wasn’t as action-packed as book 1, but it is heavy with court politics and still has twists and turns aplenty. Sophie has some hard decisions to make, which all have equally hard consequences, and each decision will have a direct impact on her, her throne, and her people. Things are changing within this world and there’s an overall feeling of something BIG looming on the horizon.

There’s still a big focus on found family and that’s one of my favorite aspects. The romance is, once again, hotter than blazes with even MORE spice, if you can believe that. I’m pretty sure my kindle caught on fire a few times. Sophie is still getting to know each of her consorts, and I really adored seeing Sophie and Javier sort of deepen their connection. The ending alludes to so much more to come with these characters and I’m now left bereft and sad that I have to wait for book 3. I guess the only thing to do is reread books 1 and 2 repeatedly until book 3 gets here 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I started this book to see if maybe what was being hinted at at the end of the book with Javier wasn't true, but alas yes. Javier raised her, was a father figure to her, and now due to a bond he forced on her as a child that she didn't know about, they now are lovers. Child grooming is disgusting

✨ALC Review✨ - 4 ⭐️

I have… thoughts about this one. Mostly I enjoyed it, but there is one large issue I struggled with.

My biggest issue is that I’m really struggling to understand the transition in Javier and her relationship. Up until very recently, she saw him as a father figure, caretaker, and teacher. Then they discover they’re bonded, and suddenly she’s attracted to him? I don’t feel like there was enough of a transition between those two dynamics. I needed to see more of her grappling with what that actually meant for their relationship and why her feelings had suddenly changed. Going from seeing someone as essentially a father figure for most of your life to being sexually attracted to them is a pretty massive shift, and I don’t think the book spent enough time exploring that.

Taboo relationships can definitely be hot, but you have to convince me that the romance makes sense. And right now, I’m already having a hard enough time believing that these two could be sexually attracted to each other after their history, let alone that they’re going to fall in love.

I will admit, though… the chemistry between them in the spicy scenes was pretty hot. But even after those scenes, I still can’t really believe that they’re in love.

In my head, I’ve almost separated Javier into two completely different people. I can see the love they have for each other, but the love I see between them feels very fatherly because that’s essentially what he was to her throughout her childhood. And then there’s this other Javier who she’s attracted to and has this physical relationship with, and I just cannot quite picture those two versions of him as the same person. I can absolutely believe that they love each other deeply, but being in love with each other? I’m not there yet.

This one did feel like it focused a bit more on the spice than the first one. Usually I am not one to complain about that, but it did start to feel like it was taking away from the actual storyline.

On the other hand, M.K. Blackwood does an incredible job with the narration. She injects so much emotion into the scenes, especially in those moments where the FMC is having flashbacks of her dead mother and it feels like she’s trying to hold back tears from the overwhelming rush of emotion. It really pulls you into the character’s head and makes those scenes feel so much more powerful.

NOOOO!! I wanted her to bond with Wren, not that stupid boy Reggie. 🙄

And now, excuse me, but WHERE IS THE NEXT BOOK??? I assumed that since it’s been over a year since the last one was published, this was a completed duology, but that cliffhanger says otherwise. Lindsey, sweetie, I need the next book. Like… now, please! 🙏🏼

I still think my baby boy Bastion is my favorite, but we’ll see. I’m also really curious to see if Ash and Thane develop their own relationship into something more in the next book, and if we do end up getting Wren added to the harem, I think that could be a lot of fun. 👀

Overall, I’m very invested in the story and have plenty of questions about where everything is going, but I’m still struggling with the romance between her and javier. I think the relationship needed more time and emotional development to make the transition from their previous dynamic into a romantic one feel believable. That said, I’m clearly invested enough to be desperate for the next book, so I guess the author is doing something right!

This is the 2nd book in The Last Vampire Queen series. It starts off at the cliffhanger from the end of book 1. Be warned, this book also ends on a huge cliffhanger. I really hate those!
Our FMC is a woman who's lived a hard life, lost everyone, lives in hiding, and is slowly dying. She knows this, and she's about to give into it. Then, a hot vampire and a librarian in glasses flip her world upside down. She needs to grow stronger, she needs to build her harem to do that, and she needs to save her kind. In the 2nd book, she's lost one in her harem to regain another she lost long ago, and then adds a 4th to the harem. There are more ghosts, and I'm LOVING the re-building of the family that never got to be; I'm hoping we'll get much more into that dynamic in the next book... particularly with that 7th spot! I thought the claiming of the 1st spot by who was essentially a father figure was a bit cringey; there's no mention of any other father figures, he was her mom's best friend, he's hundreds of years old, and he was her only caretaker and teacher for years as a young girl... so, ew gross. I did, eventually, get over that, but it's definitely NOT my favorite relationship. I wish there was a deeper dive into the throuple, more than just sex. There is a LOT of sex, by the way, and it's worked into the plot as necessary for her magic and bonding, but I know that's not for everyone. I'm all for smut, but I do wish there was more building of the relationships beyond the physical (I think that's the first time I've ever stated this in a review!). The only time she's been engrossed in the lives of her bonded is when she's forced by magic; she cares when she's there, but can barely be bothered to get to know them before or after that? She's also not sharing much of herself, to the point where the men are discussing her difficult history they do know with one another, just to get to know the real her better. Considering how this book ends, I'm assuming sex isn't going to be the all-consuming factor in book 3 that it's been thus far. I've enjoyed learning about their unique magic system, I wish there was a bit more of that as well. I'd rate this 4+ stars, and would have rate it higher if the plot hadn't been so smut-heavy (and I read really smutty books). I would really like to get to know the characters, world, and magic better, and not much happened in this book, except for a few big revelations. M.K. Blackwood did a great job narrating the audiobook I had the pleasure of receiving, although I think it would have benefitted from duet narration, considering all the male characters in the story.

📖 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿:
Readers who enjoy spicy paranormal romance, why-choose relationships, vampires, shifters, fantasy worlds, and a story where the plot and romance go hand in hand.

Going into Guardian of Blood and Shadow, I knew exactly what kind of series this was. Book one surprised me by leaning much more heavily into the romance than I'd expected, so this time I settled in knowing what waited on the other side of the cover.

And honestly? This was the book I had hoped the first one would be.

The fantasy plot stepped further into the spotlight, giving the world, its magic, and the growing conflict more room to breathe while still keeping the romance front and centre. There is still plenty of spice, and when it appears it's definitely more intense than in book one, but overall it felt like the fantasy story was leading the romance rather than the romance leading the fantasy. That balance worked so much better for me.

I found myself far more invested in Sophie's journey and loved slowly learning more about how this world works and how everything connects. Every new revelation made me want to keep reading, and by the final chapters I wasn't ready to leave. If anything, I wanted even more time exploring this world.

The ending does leave readers with a cliffhanger. I generally prefer books to wrap up a little more neatly, but this one definitely did its job because all I wanted was to pick up book three immediately. If the series keeps building like this, I can genuinely see it becoming a five-star favourite.

• The stronger balance between the fantasy plot and the romance.

M.K. Blackwood has really grown on me. The narration is steady, well-paced, and carries just the right amount of emotion without ever pulling attention away from the story itself. Sophie's voice feels particularly well suited to the character, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more audiobooks narrated by M.K. Blackwood.

I listened to this on audiobook, and the narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life. Their performances were engaging and helped keep me invested, even during parts of the story that weren't my favorite.

That said, this book just wasn't the right fit for me. The spice starts almost immediately in the opening chapters and continues to be a major focus throughout the story. I typically enjoy fantasy with romance, but I prefer when the plot and world-building take center stage, with the romance complementing the story rather than driving it.

The premise had a lot of potential. Sophie has finally claimed her throne as the High Queen of the House of the Moon and must prepare for the Shadow King's return while navigating dangerous political alliances, growing magical abilities, and shocking revelations about her own existence. The stakes are high, and there are battles, betrayals, and plenty of twists that push the story forward.

I enjoyed learning more about the world, the immortal races, and the expanding lore. There were some emotional moments and reveals that kept me interested, and I do want to see how the overall story plays out. However, I felt like many of those plot points were overshadowed by the constant romantic and intimate scenes. Because the reverse harem relationships remained such a central focus, I never fully connected with the story the way I had hoped.

I can absolutely understand why fans of extra spicy reverse harem fantasy love this series—it delivers exactly what it's advertising. It just wasn't what I personally look for in a fantasy novel. I wanted more adventure, world-building, magic, and character growth, with the romance taking more of a supporting role.

Overall, this was an okay listen. The audiobook narration was enjoyable, but the story itself wasn't my preferred style. If you love fantasy romance with multiple love interests and lots of spice from beginning to end, this will likely be a hit for you. For me, it's a 3-star read.

After listening to book 1, I knew I wanted to continue this series. The atmosphere, the darkness, the sensuality… I needed that book on my shelf. And if I have first book - I need the entire series, obviously. Getting approved for this ALC made me even more excited to return to this world.

The narration continues to be absolutely incredible! 🖤 She is such a perfect fit for Sophie and this story. She captures the darkness, vulnerability, grief, desire, and power shifts so beautifully. Atmosphere is everything in this series, and the audiobook experience adds so much. The narration was one of the reasons book 1 worked so well for me, and book 2 delivered the same magic.

Dark, melancholic atmosphere. Very, VERY spicy romance. Powerful characters and complicated bonds. The conflict grows beyond vampires and werewolves into something much bigger — darkness becoming the threat.

Sophie starts to understand herself more. She questions her worth, faces her fears, and slowly realises her own strength and power. There is grief, love, sacrifice, and some genuinely emotional moments.

BUT…

My biggest issue was the balance between plot and spice. And let me be clear: the spice is VERY well written. 😂

But I want the plot to drive the story, with spice enhancing it. There were many moments where I thought: “This plot is actually really interesting… I just wish we spent more time there.” 

Everything happened in the last 20%. The ending showed me why I stayed invested and made me excited for what comes next.

Overall, this is a strong book for its niche. I am continuing the series. I need to know what happens next… and I already know I want to experience this world through this narrator again. 🖤

Book 2 in The Last Vampire Queen series is filled with SPICE (if you do not like spice or A LOT of spice, then turn back now because this series is NOT for you), magic and bonds that are deeper than just mates, a whole harem of magical creatures ready to fulfil your every need, fast burn romance, found family and biological family, vampires, witches, shifters and GODS!

This installment picks up right where book 1 ends. Sophie now has her prime consort by her side but was forced to leave another behind. Sophie now must accept and fulfil her role as High Queen in order to save not only her people, the other Queens, but her love and most importantly… herself. With an impending threat looming, her training is fast tracked. She must learn about herself, her past, and what the future may hold for her on top of learning to harness her magic. With seemingly impossible decisions which may have equally as inconceivable consequences, she must do what she has to ensure the survival of her people, her throne and her heart.

Perfectly written, the character development is beautifully and masterfully done. With spice straight out the gate, Lindsey has dialed up the heat from HOT to SCORTCHING. As with the first book, although there is a lot of spice, it serves a purpose and is a vital part of the story rather than just CORN on a page for no reason other than being CORN. I know I’ve read books where I couldn’t see the twists coming, but this one I REALLY didn’t see them coming. LINDSEY!! You’re killing me with these cliff hangers!!

This is the second book in the series, and I have enjoyed it very much. My only regret is that I was unaware that the series is incomplete, resulting in a cliffhanger ending. I also have some questions, which is positive as it indicates that this series will remain in my thoughts.

This series is extra spicy but still plot led. 🔥 I enjoyed the storyline. I do wish we got more about each house and the way its run and about the people. More back stroy on Reiji, Veris, Wes, and Diana, Javier 🤔 Also who is Sophie dad??? 🧐 I have questions lol

This book takes you on an adventurous journey, making you feel invested in the characters as if they were real people. The story follows Sophie, the last vampire queen, who at the age of 30, is thrust into her role to save all immortal beings—vampires, shifters, and witches. The shifter king desires the breaking of a curse placed upon his people, a task only Sophie can accomplish. However, a new enemy emerges: the Shadow King, who seeks the destruction of all. Sophie must find her seven consorts and save the world, all while dealing with family matters and more.

I definitely enjoyed this one less than the first book. Ironically, it actually had more plot and, even tho it has a lot of it, less smut. The story introduces higher stakes, more action, and some interesting developments surrounding the Shadow King and Sophie's powers, yet I never found myself invested. The ending, however, definitely surprised me—I wasn't expecting that cliffhanger.

One of my biggest issues was the characters and their relationships. With such a large cast of love interests, I wanted much more individual development, but many of them still felt underexplored. Several relationships progressed incredibly quickly, and while the reader is told how deep the bonds are, I didn't believe them. I wanted more meaningful conversations and emotional development.

The writing also became quite repetitive. Certain descriptions, emotions, and even the way each consort was described were repeated over and over again. Overall, I was entertained and still found the world interesting enough to continue the series, but I'm not sure if I'll read the next book.

Adult, very spicy, many kinds of spicy, fantasy. 4.5 stars. This book starts off immediately after the cliff hanger of book one, and immediately into the bedroom with Sophie and her harem.

Sophie, vampire queen, is finding out about her powers, doubting herself, enjoying herself, and finding the resolve to push forward. She needs to know more, and get Gavin and the Queens back from the shifter King.

But those she is dealing with are deceitful, and she now has a prophecy that suggests she doesn’t have much time to sort out all her problems.

And once again the author leaves us at a major crunch point in the story. Picked perfectly to make me want the next installment, now. Even though I know I will have to wait, I’m L ooking forward to seeing how Sophie and her consorts manage to extricate themselves from the trouble they have found themselves in.

I have enjoyed the first two books, and the underlying story with vampires, shifters and Gods and magic at its centre. Though if I’m being honest later in this book I found myself skipping some of the bedroom scenes as there are a lot of them.

If you thought the first book was spicy, prepare yourself—this installment explodes into a different stratosphere of steam and intensity. Sophie is fiercely determined to free Gavin and the other queens from imprisonment, a mission that demands she increases and masters her powers asap - meaning she needs to grow her harem and strengthen the bonds with her consorts. I loved the addition of elementals to the story, creating new fascinating characters, adding further arcs to Sophie's journey. The plot culminates in a juicy revelation with an ending that leaves you gasping for the next installment.

Guardian of Blood and Shadow (The Last Vampire Queen #2)

The second book in this series. Spicy is not the adjective for this story. The concept of harem and vampire queens would make it spicy. The romantic scenes of this story are very provocative. The story shows the sacrifice of generations to stand against evil. The characters are faces with a greater evil that has been leaching into the world. Turning each of the magical creatures against each other. Old alliances are falling. Despite the struggle against this evil there seems to be more darkness than light. I will see how the next book the series helps resolve some of the insurmountable events this book has laid bare.
The audible of this story is exceptional. Bringing great depth to the characters and the personalities of the story.

I really wish Goodreads would update there stars system because 3 stars isn’t enough but 4 stars is to many. I’d give this one a sold 3.75 stars. Would be 4 but I called this ending at the beginning of the book, this one was just a little too obvious. Again the narrator does a phenomenal job of voicing so many characters! I’m enjoying this series it’s written well and definitely has plot and not just spice. The warnings say this is like all spice and extremely spicy and yes it is spicy but like not to much? Based off the warnings I thought there’d be more obviously lol. I’ll definitely be reading more. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my audio arc this is my honest review.

All I thought through this book was poor Gavin 😩! I loved learning more and more about each of our consorts and watching Sophie embrace her role and come into her powers! It’s inspiring, especially by the end! 😮‍💨 She BAD-ASS!

Lovin’ me some Ash and Thane….all I gotta say is yum🫦! But their pasts, OMG 😭 I wanna cry and then go give each of them a big giant hug! Same with Bastian!! Ugh he’s still my favourite and so sweet! Javier needs to chill a little 🤣!! Seriously tho, I am loving the series so far and I cannot wait to see what happens next, cause that ending…….😮‍💨!

Heir of Blood and Moonlight was an interesting experience for me, as it was my first reverse harem read. It’s certainly erotic and delivers exactly what you’d expect from the genre in that regard.

However, the characters—particularly the protagonist—felt somewhat flat. As the last vampyre queen, I would have expected her to show more determination to defend herself and to exhibit stronger leadership and fierceness. I missed a sense of fire and bite from her character, as well as more action overall.

That said, I generally enjoyed the read and am looking forward to seeing how things develop in the third book.

Another book that really intrigued me! I think the relationship between Luna and her Consorts is sooo cute. The writing of the actual story could have been a bit faster in my opinion. There was a lot of repeating for example how every one of her consorts felt different and like what every person tastes like. After multiple times repeating it frustrated me, like yes we get it.

Oh and I really hate the cliffhanger AGAIN. If I had known this would have happen both times I probably would've never started the series. Buttttt overal the story was nice again and I finished the book within a few days
