Feral and deadly, this alien gladiator is here to protect...not claim me for himself.

The alien virus I caught after I was taken from Earth has left me a shadow of my former self. The only saving grace, my voice is unaffected, but it means I’m the songstress to a wealthy alien who keeps me like a canary in a gilded cage.

Then, after someone attempts to assassinate him, he employs a gruff, grumpy former Gryn gladiator as his personal bodyguard. Rych is intimidating and handsome in equal measure, with a penchant for training outside my window in the early morning, all muscles, feathers and very little in the way of clothing.

I might be able to sing, but speaking to him is a different matter entirely, and I’m sure a virtual god like Rych wouldn’t want a broken thing like me anyway.

Until the assassin strikes again and I find myself stuck in a cave with a massive feathered gladiator who is too hot for words. As we attempt to get back to Tatatunga and he takes care of me without making me feel like a burden, I find myself falling more and more for my big brooding bodyguard.

Until I discover the truth about the virus infecting me and if we don’t find a cure, then not only will I lose him, I'll lose my life.

And I'm not ready to die yet.

Bound is a grumpy bodyguard romance with a delicious alien twist from USA Today Bestselling Author Hattie Jacks. You're going to want to dust off your vocal chords and get practicing your scales in order to attract your very own Gryn warrior!

This book was a bit more disjointed than the previous 2 and I was kinda bummed. Chrissie was an interesting FMC and her chronic illness was good to see, although I very much disliked some of the ways it was handled. Rych, in the same way all the Gryn do, fell hard and fast and nearly had a personality transplant. He was still grouchy and quick to violence, of course.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: references to trafficking and involuntary sex work, violence, gore, abduction, medical experimentation (off page), vehicular crash, near death experience, gladiatorial references, pregnancy

Just like the last book I started reading, this one still wasn’t really working for me at 30% and as I have so many books to read, I thought I’d move on. I still haven’t written off this author though.

Another hit !

This whole series so far has been so exciting to read. Who wouldn't want a big growly Gryn Gladiator who wants to worship you, and build you big, comfy nests to play around in and then sleep after he wears you out. Rych is a force to be reckoned with, and Chrissy has a long dangerous journey not knowing why she's being chased. Rych takes care of her through it all, and of course after a lot of tense times, they finally are close to the answers all the Gryn warriors need. Being together is a HEA ending enough for now though! On to the next book. Hattie Jacks has come up with a great world, of winged warriors, who find their mates.

Apparently I'm an outlier here but I really didn't like this one as much as the first two! Chrissie was an interesting heroine, but aside from that, the romance and relationship felt really flat to me. They know each other for like 2 days before Rych knows she's his mate and starts acting like he has a totally different personality. There's a bunch of action but it feels like the heart and romance took a back seat to the half hazard plot.

THOUGHTS I HAD WHILE READING:

- I appreciated a heroine with dry wit and chronic illness (which could have been handled better imo). Personally I liked it and thought she was refreshing after all these "no nonsense / feisty hardcore" heroines we usually get in sci-fi romance. Chrissie was fun to read and I really felt her pain and discomfort and her struggle of wanting to be independent again.

- I didn't care for Rych. At first he seems like a gladiator out of the ring and not used to life on the outside which was a cool take since he wasn't that crazy about "freedom" to begin with. Then he's all "sauve, cocky, easygoing and sexy bodyguard" when he meets Chrissie and the rest of the book is him acting really dull and like his brain got taken over by the mating urge.... Also, I just don't get the same sense of personality as I did from the other two Glyn.

- I wanted to like the romance but we barely see them even talk or bond before Rych goes all mating urge cuckoo and then it's just that, some sex and they're in love and trying to save each other.

- IMO, the sex was NOT as good in this one, literally she comes right when they start and ugh that just annoys me. I like the buildup and the prolonged experience not " she came because he pumped once and dirty talked her" throughout the book she comes with basically no effort made. *sigh*

- I HATED the "this doctor is the only person who can cure / knows about the virus" thing. Like she literally has nothing to gain from helping them and it's ridiculous to me no one else had EVER seen it before???

- the whole "bonding with tech" thing ANNOYED THE CRAP out of me. I know it's probably not meant this way but for a heroine to go from basically unable to walk or breathe well to "my body fused with the tech and I'm healing myself" really threw me. Like I would have preferred to see her slowly get better or overcome her limitations where she could, but this just felt like "love conquers all" bs. Part of what made her a great character was her disability/ illness but it's cool because she's fully healthy now? Ugh.

- ALSO kind of didn't really care for the boss storyline. The guy LITERALLY kept her in a cage and made her sing until her throat hurt and she could barely stand but "it's ok because he had good intentions". Nope. He did not deserve a second chance.

🔥 “You are mine to protect, little spark. Mine to nest for and mine to mate.”
~~~
Chrissie is an incredible woman! She’s brave, strong and resilient! For someone who’s not only been through a lot, but also is now dealing with a mysterious illness, Chrissie never hesitates to face and deal with any challenges thrown her way. Even more, this beautiful and talented singer is so kind, compassionate and understanding. Chrissie is amazing and I loved her so, so much!
And Rych is one phenomenal male! This former gladiator is quite grumpy, growly and intimidating. And he’s deadly, fearsome, violent and feral, too. And there’s even more to Rych than meets the eye. Because this huge Gryn is fiercely protective, honorable, confident, resourceful, deliciously possessive and dominant and will stop at nothing to make sure what’s his is safe and cared for. Rych is a swoon-worthy and utterly irresistible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Chrissie and Rych! Chrissie is working for a wealthy but shady alien as his songstress when Rych is hired to protect her boss and find the aliens trying to assassinate him. I absolutely adored Rych and Chrissie together! Their chemistry was off-the-charts right from the start. And I absolutely loved every moment they spent together, trying to escape enemies and discover truths. Even more, I loved the tension between the two and their banters and teasings were a delight to read. And when they gave into the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot and I couldn’t get enough! What can I say… nesting Gryn warriors in a mating rut are utterly irresistible and panty-melting. Chrissie and Rych were absolutely perfect for each other and, after everything both went through, they more than deserved to find happiness and love together!
In addition, the storyline was phenomenal! Deadly assassins and even deadlier enemies are lurking in the shadows. And not everyone is who they appear to be. And with the mystery of Chrissie’s illness things get even more complicated. And when you add even more Gryn to the mix, things get quite… explosive. With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end, excited to find out how all will be resolved and what will be discovered.
Overall, the story is another remarkable addition to the series! It’s filled with non-stop action, danger, adventure, suspense, twists, drama, intense emotions, blazing-hot passion and spectacular characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!
Spicy alien bodyguard story. Nobody does alien romance like Hattie Jacks. The Gryn Gladiators are definitely aliens worth reading about. Once these aliens find their mate aka eregri there is nothing in the galaxy they wouldn't do to protect them and keep them safe and Rych was no exception when it came to Chrissie.
Like many humans, Chrissie was abducted from Earth, experimented on and then sold to the highest bidder. Unbeknownst to her; she has been infected with an alien virus so that she could be used as a weapon by a hostile alien race. After an assassination attempt against her and her current owner/boss; she is put under the care and watchful eye of Rych.
Rych is a former gladiator who is free from the life of arena fighting. Unfortunately, that is the only life he knows until he is hired as a bodyguard and the person, he is hired to protect ends up being his eregri aka mate.
There was instant attraction between Chrissie and Rych but with Chrissie's illness she didn't want to be a burden to Rych. Chrisse received a crash course in how a Gryn responds when he finds his mate.
As usual this Sci-Fi story had humor, danger, violence, witty banter, spice and of course a HEA. Now it's time to get ready for the next Gryn Gladiator to fall.
4 🌟's d r Bound 💖🔥
I enjoy the Gryn and the series about the gladiators has been one fun adventure after another. I enjoyed Rych and Chrissie's story but at times I felt things were bit rushed . I even had to go back just to make sure I didn't miss anything. each take has unraveled more of how the Gryn came to be on Trefa and how they lost their memories and become the most vicious gladiators in the Dome. Rych was released from his contract as gladiator in the last book and he finds a jib as a bodyguard. When one of the beings he's supposed to guard turns out to be a human his whole world changes. Chrissie been sick and her one love is singing. She caught an alien virus and its slowly killing her. when an attempt on her bosses life is makes her hires a new bodyguard that cheer life forever. The attraction is instant when she meets Rych can she trust him to save her and take care of her ? Can he ever feel worthy of Chrisse's love or is Rych h doomed to be alone. You need to read and find out .. Solid addition to the series even if a bit disjointed in places.🔥💖🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟
What an absolutely fantastic book I was engaged from the very first page until the very last. If you have read previous books in this series, you will know that Rych is one of the newly released Gryn gladiators, and he seems to have lost his purpose in life, while he tries to find something that he can do outside of the dome, is employed by Fenek, to be his bodyguard after an assassin attempted to get to him or his human pet Chrissie, who he employees to sing for him. The story unfolds quickly and the characters develop feelings for each other because Chrissie is his eregri or mate that fate has granted him. Chrissie has a virus that the Drahon had injected her with and it’s a fight to get her to their scientists before she dies. It’s a fabulous story, and I loved how these two were able to escape the planet Trefa, they are able to travel to find more of the Gryn together and their happily ever after.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
There is such depth in this. The detail that is included that you just don't realise has been interwoven into the background.
This one is a little different to the usual in that Chrissie, our songbird, is ill and in a sort of terminal way. Despite that she is still trying to survive and if nothing else can support her then she will sing. Rych is a big ball of nothingness really. He has not sense of direction or grounding since he is no longer a galdiator. Then again maybe there was a purpose to it after all since it has led him to his eregri. These two were so opposite in so many ways and yet they are a wonderful pair.
I loved this so much and I think Rych may well be on my favourite Gryn list. There are so many, I'm so fickle! In my defense the books and the characters are just too good.
'No one will hurt my little spark while I’m on watch.'
“Whatever we do, we do together, my mate.”
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Chrissie and Rych. I was quickly sucked into the story. A human abducted from home and ill from an alien virus she can't seem to heal from and is now a pet to another alien using her as a songstress for his clients. Rych, a former gladiator, the Gryn is now a bodyguard to Chrissie and her boss after an assassination attempt. I liked the dynamic between them, and her plight drew me in. I liked the way their relationship developed, his immediate attraction to her, as well as her own- though she tried to resist....initially. These two were so cute together and I never ceased to smile when she knowingly teased him. The mystery aspect of the story kept m guessing. Excellent book! 5 stars.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bound is the most poignant entry yet, pairing haunting vulnerability with slow-burn longing in all the best ways. The heroine is a gifted songstress weakened by an alien virus, trapped in a gilded cage with nothing but her voice. Enter Rych, a grumpy ex-gladiator turned bodyguard who’s all muscle, brooding silence, and early-morning workouts. Their connection grows through subtle gestures, lingering glances, and heart-melting caretaking. The enforced proximity after an assassination attempt allows for breathtaking intimacy, both emotional and physical. This one feels quieter but more powerful, with themes of identity, illness, and quiet resilience. Rych’s protective devotion is nothing short of swoon-worthy, and the twist surrounding the virus raises the stakes just when things seem stable. A deeply satisfying and romantic high point in the series.
This is the story about Rych and Chrissie. I loved that he called her his "little spark" . You will get the meaning as you read the book.
Loved the many twists and mysteries. Action packed, intrigue and of course eventual spice to the romance. Fenek was also a surprise.
The protectiveness Rych showed towards Chrissie even stronger than Blayse's towards Izzy, (in my opinion) And wanting to build a nest for her. I loved it.
I liked the inclusion of Blaze and Izzy.
Excellent story line. I loved what happened to Chrissie, even though she did not want it. The future should be interesting for them.
And yes there is the perfect HEA for the two .
Gleeful Goblin Review: As someone with IRL chronic pain and invisible disabilities I really appreciated this story. The caring that Rych gives so freely to Chrissie with the emphasis on her *not being a burden* hit me in the feels so hard. Being cared about and cared for without guilt trips or being dismissed as less than is worth it's weight in gold and I think that idea was born out very well in this story. Granted, there was a bit more intrigue behind Chrissie's illness than there is for us spoonies down here on earth; but feeling like I could see this aspect of myself in the story really stood out to me. 5/5 Stars.
Rych was “lost” after being released from his status as a Gladiator. He couldn’t figure out what he was going to do with himself until being hired as security for the alien who owned Chrissie, his eregri. Chrissie’s situation was unique compared to the females in previous books because she was ill. I like how Hattie described how the illness affected her.
Rych and Chrissie’s adventure in coming together as a couple, finding their place in the world/universe, and the reason for Chrissie’s illness was so good. Lots of action and the love story was awesome.
Also, I think the Gryn are so funny…they have to nest, have no idea why, and the urge driving them to nest when they find their soulmate is amusing.
I received this as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a great story. Chrissy and Rych were made for one another and he is another Gladiator that falls to his knees for his female. The two of the them had a bit of a rocky start and all of a sudden found themselves on the run from assassins but if there is one thing that is absolutely amazing about these guys, it’s that they protect and fight for their mate.
Chrissy was a trooper in this book. She kept moving forward everyday despite being sick and she allowed Rych to love her and make her feel safe. Rych finally found a woman to take care of and he was really great at protecting her. They both deserved their HEA.
More pieces were connecting in this book about how the Gryn ended up in the arena. Several of them had their memories wiped and were experimented on. I think they all have memories that need to come to the surface. Can’t wait to read more of these nesting males and I hope they all find love and a home.
Rych and Chrissie's story is delicious with a grumpy bodyguard hired to proctect a songstress and finding she's his eregri.
As a twist she's sick with an alien virus that proves to be possibly deadly.
A great addiction to this amazing series,is well written with a good world building, a captivating plot and characters that steal your heart.
Love the Gladiator of the Gryn series by Hattie Jacks! Bound is tells the story Rych who is hired by human singer Chrissie’s boss to be her bodyguard. Many attacks occur as they try to avoid their attackers who are after Chrissie who has been infected with a virus. Love how obsessed the winged gladiators are with nesting and pleasing their females. One of my favorite series!
There were many things I loved about this book, the mmc being one of them. I enjoyed that Rych needed to build nests for Chrissie, it was a nice change from other books where the fmc goes through a nesting phase. I did feel a little confused on some parts, particularly related the business-alien Chrissie is sold to in the beginning.
But overall, it was a fast paced, enjoyable read!
Disappo
This was disappointing. There was no chemistry between the two characters. The sex was boring and impersonal. I didn't care about either main character. They were flat and uninspired. If I got a nickel for every time the word "vex" or a form of it was used I would be rich. Hattie is capable of much better writing. It makes me wonder if she is helping someone else write.
Wow
This was even better than the last 2 books. I love that Chrissie is a singer, that is something knew . Than what others have been and what she becomes is even better. Rych finding her was the best even if he had a little unknown help. I so am ready for the next book. Maxyum is next I'm so ready.
Not bad for a quick read. At first I thought the MC was on the dumb side intellectually. He got smarter as the story progressed. Different take on the MC prowess and number of organs. Yep, there’s 2.
Quite a few wrong turn of phrases and wrong word tenses. AI written? Possibly. These errors came more often as the story progressed. Needs a good review.
This is an exciting story of a non trusting human and a ex Gryn gladiator turned bodyguard. The attraction, reluctantly on her part, but instantaneously on his part, grabs the reader’s attention. But it’s the action and danger that will keep you not wanting to put the book down.
So far in this series, I like this one the best. I like the mysterious Fenek and what is going on behind the scenes. I did want to say, someone promising to keep me pregnant is not really a turn on. LOL
