Three Days to Be Ruined

What happens when a Highlander becomes a winemaker? The grapes don’t just crush... They faint.

An English lady with everything to lose…
Beth Croft is all poise and propriety—or so she tells herself. To save her father from financial ruin, she proposes a marriage of convenience to Boyd Sandeman, the ruggedly handsome, infuriating Scotsman and wine tycoon. She expects some challenges, but she didn’t expect Boyd himself—a man with a dry wit, a commanding presence, and a knack for turning her world upside down.

A Scotsman with a taste for revenge…For Boyd, Beth’s offer is a chance to settle an old score with her father, who once humiliated him. He agrees, but only if Beth can prove she’s up to the task. At a festive Christmas house party, Boyd devises three challenges to test her mettle, from blind wine tastings to keeping up with his demanding (and often maddening) expectations. Yet as they spar and spark, Boyd’s own defenses begin to falter in surprising ways.

Three trials, one Christmas, and undeniable chemistry…Beth didn’t expect proving herself would mean more late nights than she’d bargained for—or that her heart would be on the line. Can she survive Boyd’s trials, break through his defenses, and make it to Christmas morning with her pride—and her heart—intact?

Epilogue: Yes
Format: voluntarily read an advanced reader copy in e-book form from the author
Why I chose this book: I was asked by Siniscalchi to read an advanced reader copy and I said yes because I’ve really loved her prior books!
Mains: This is a M/F relationship between a cishet hero and heroine
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
It may be best in order – they are stand alone romances but the character flow of the series is there. And this heroine was engaged to the hero from book 1 and the mains from books 1 and 2 attend a house gathering together with their children so the background will make that more enjoyable. And there is an intimate scene between Anne and Pedro (the mains from book 2) so that might feel random to you if you don’t know their story.

Basic plot:
Beth proposes to Boyd to align their families and save her family’s finances and Boyd uses it as an opportunity to exact revenge against how her father treated him years ago.

Give this a try if you want:
- Portugal setting
- 1876 (King Luis I timeline in Portugal)
- bargain vibes – the hero invites the heroine to partake in three challenges to see if they will be suitable as business and marriage partners
- hero keeps trinkets/souvenirs from the heroine (like ribbons, handkerchiefs, etc)
- he’ll blindfold you and feed you wine
- holiday romance
- close proximity – he invites her to a house party of sorts with his family
- she plays the cello for him...naked
- there’s an element of revenge here – the hero and the heroine’s father have a history
- shorter novel
- higher steam – 3 full scenes between the mains plus a scene from the couple from book 2

Ages:
- I didn’t catch either of them.

First line:
“Highlanders have a disagreeable habit of tossing a woman over their shoulders and carrying her off to their caves.”

My thoughts:
Oh I loved the set up of this one. A Scottish hero, bent on revenge, set in Portugal with a proposed marriage of convenience...I was eating this UP from the get go.

Though, maybe ¼ of the way in, I did get annoyed with Boyd a bit. While I loved his playful side, and I loved him taking souvenirs from Beth, I felt some of the things he said/did were just coming off as childish. I did feel like he overcame that. I also wasn’t a big fan of so much secondary character page time, but that’s just me. If you love seeing prior characters in the story, you will enjoy that more. Something I really don’t like is sex scenes between side characters and we get one of those too. (As much as I loved Anne and Pedro, I am always ready for the new, current couple of the book.

But! But! This book grabbed my emotions about ¾ of the way through. I was loving their longing for each other and felt so hard their fear of moving forward. It really gripped me and so I boosted my rating. I adored the angsty all is lost moments for them both.

This was such a beautiful love story filled with passion. I hadn't read the other books in this series, and I wish I had because some of the former couples make an appearance. No matter, though, it didn't make it confusing in any way. I just would have liked knowing those characters better.

Boyd, a winemaker, is surprised when Beth, the daughter of someone he considers an enemy, walks into his office and proposes marriage. Immediately, he decides to use this as revenge and to test Beth in the process. Instead, once Beth is in his home, they fall in love.

Their love story was flirty, playful, and oh so very steamy. I loved seeing Beth lose her inhibitions and Boyd learning to open up and be vulnerable.

Now, please excuse me while I go and read the rest of this series!

Beth, elegant, refined and treated like a princess (and was even called “princess” by the staff), finds herself at the mercy of Boyd, a ruggedly charming and infuriating wine magnate. To save her family from financial ruin, she proposes a marriage of convenience, but Boyd insists she must pass three days, and three nights, of tests proving she is worthy of being a winemaker’s wife. Beth reluctantly agrees unaware that he never intends to marry her at the end of the three days -he intends to ruin her. Years ago, her father humiliated Boyd who he has never forgiven, and he views this as a perfect opportunity to seek revenge.

As the story unfolds, Boyd slowly lets go of his thirst for revenge, discovering through Beth that he is indeed worthy of love and seeking vengeance no longer appealed to him. Witnessing Boyd’s transformation is a delight as he struggles with the goodness he has long denied. Beth’s resilience shines through, surprising them both; Boyd expected her to fail under the weight of his challenges. Yet, it is Boyd who undergoes the true test, ultimately failing in the most heartwarming way.

This is an exquisite narrative, rich with heartfelt moments, passionate romance and poetic elegance. It brims with humor, tension, engaging dialogues, emotional upheaval, and a genuinely romantic yet realistic happily ever after. The supporting characters are equally compelling, contributing to the rich tapestry of character development. I loved getting a glimpse of past characters; it was like revisiting family after being so invested in their stories as well. I also have to point out how much I loved “Reggie Reginald” and the part he played in this story. 😆 It still brings a smile to my face!

The intimate scenes were expertly portrayed. The descriptions are sensual, vivid, and explicit, infusing each scene with deep emotion and even a sense of adventure. (The wine tasting and the cello scene will live rent free in my mind for a long time. 🔥) Her intimate scenes amplify Boyd and Beth's connection that's filled with passion as they both give and receive.

Giovanna has such a remarkable understanding of what I love in a romance – those effortless, uplifting tales that sweep me off my feet. She is a virtuoso of storytelling; unafraid to expose the darker sides of human nature while rewarding us with the characters' growth, acceptance, and the realization that everyone is worthy of love. It merely takes that one special person—a soul mate—to help them recognize their true value.

I was honored to receive an early copy from the author (Thank you!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“I’m a man of honor, Miss Croft. I break it, I pay for it.” 🥵🥵🥵 OMG, OMG, OMG

The pressure is on: Beth Croft needs to find a husband in order to save her family’s future. She was jilted (back in book one), and everything since has spiraled downward. Beth aims to make it right by proposing a marriage of convenience to Boyd Sandeman, a Highlander turned port wine maker.

Mr. Sandeman has ideas other than marriage for the daughter of a man who once humiliated him. He’ll put prim and proper Beth through a series of challenges testing her will and propriety only to publicly reject her. However, Boyd finds himself increasingly captivated by Beth. As the trials for winning the winemaker’s hand go on, Boyd’s own conventions are tested. Will he be able to follow through with his initial plot for revenge?

Three Days to be Ruined is book 5 in a series, but can be read as a stand alone. This is a novella, so the pacing is quite fast.
First off, I adore the title. How could one not be intrigued by it?! Giovanna Siniscalchi’s style and storytelling are in the vein of Elizabeth Hoyt.
The story takes place in Portugal at Christmas, but the focus is on the wine! Siniscalchi has written immersive imagery that titillates the senses! The juxtaposition between the gruff Highlander and the demure, strait-laced lady is clever and adept. There are some very imaginative love scenes that will leave you biting your lip.
If you’re looking for a quick delicious read, don’t sleep on this book!
4/5 ⭐️

*I’d like to thank Giovanna Siniscalchi for contacting me, and offering a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“Three Days to Be Ruined” by Giovanna Siniscalchi is the 5th instalment of “The Winemakers”-series, and follows the story of Beth Croft and Boyd Sandeman. Before moving forward with my review, I think it’s important to point out that this is the first book of the series I have read, so I review this novella more as a standalone than a part of the series.

1870s, Portugal. Beth Croft finds herself in a clutch. With her family’s wine business facing bankruptcy, her parents urge her to forge a marriage of convenience with their competitor Boyd Sandemna. The problem with that plan? The grumpy Scotsmans for one is the best friend of Beth’s ex-fiancé, for another Beth’s father rejected and insulted him gravely when he started off in the business. The stars don’t seem aligned for this undertaking, but for some reason Boyd doesn’t straight up reject, but invites her over for Christmas to figure out if she is winemaker’s wife material. Three days and three nights are supposed to show if they suit outside and inside the bedroom. To both of their surprise the sparks fly, but Boyd’s intention was never honourable, and Beth starts liking him too much to force his hand in marriage.

First, I’d like to point out that despite not having read any of the other books in this series, I had no problem following along with the storyline of Beth and Boyd. Moreover, I found myself enjoying this novella very much.

Beth is the type of main character that I often really relate to. Raised to be the perfect lady and to be a wife, many traits that make Beth well Beth are suppressed by Beth herself as well as her parents. But when she is put into an environment where these bounds get thinner and thinner, and the cello music blasting, daring and slightly bratty woman gets out, she even changes the mind of the grumpy Scotsman who swore he didn’t like her that way. I loved how no matter what was thrown at her, she held her head up high and faced it straight up. There are many facets to her as a character that I really loved to explore. And I think though this is only a novella, one gets to see many sides of this red head.

The pairing of her with Boyd was a great choice. I mean the tension and impossible nature of their relationship was already there based on the fact of their rather unusual backstory, but I loved how they kept attracting each other like magnets. Though Boyd is a Scottish hottie, underneath his grumpy exterior a insecure and hurt man is hiding. And for some reason Beth knows exactly how to stab his weak spots without looking. One might think that an identity struggle with being Scottish is a little silly as the entire historical romance world tells you how great and how proud Scots are, I actually really enjoyed this exploration. Scots are historical in a weird spot, starting off as a resisting force against English colonialism, then losing and struggling through poverty and famine, only to end up being extremely involved in the transatlantic slave trade. From this perspective I really appreciate Giovanna’s perspective on dealing with this archetype of historical romance.

As stated before I have never met the supporting cast as main characters in their own books, but I actually really liked them in their roles as side characters. They are an interesting bunch, and their opinions and meddling with the main couple’s relationship was very endearing. If you are also reading this novella without reading the rest of the series, this novella does feature two steamy scenes between the couples featured in earlier instalments. I guess these scenes are a treat if you are in general a fan of the series.

For a novella, the pacing is pretty good. Though it’s pretty sure it did have a full-length novel feel to it. I did not miss any information or plot holes that are common in novellas. It’s very well constructed and written. Giovanna’s writing style is very enjoyable, and also great for non-Native speakers like myself. The inner life of the main characters was well crafted, and I very much enjoyed my time in their heads. Additionally, the dialogue is witty and realistic.

Plot-wise I was - again - very happy. The overall story of Beth trying to set up a marriage of convenience, and Boyd daring her to prove herself fitting to be his wife is something I have not read in this form before, and I have to say I thought it very interesting and fun. Obviously not having read the books prior I am not quite sure how much these two have interacted before their own novella, but just reading the novella it felt that their relationship was developing extremely fast. I mean, it only takes them three days to go from strangers to confessing their love for each other. It’s definitely a whirlwind romance which is not totally my thing, but for a short and sweet holiday novella, I’m not overly complaining.

As someone who barely drinks any alcohol, and barely drinks any wine, it was quite the adventure to dive into Victorian wine making. It’s quite the niche topic, but honestly I am here for it. We had dukes and lords and prizefighters, why not add winemakers to the mix?

Also, I am usually not the biggest fan of Christmas novels/novellas as if they often have the tendency to get a little too cheesy for my taste, but I liked how the Christmas vibes were kept on the down low, and I think you get away with reading outside the festive season and still have a great time.

Overall, a fun and sexy novella about winemaking, winning over grumpy Scots and proudly being yourself. I can only recommend giving it a try.

Three Days to be Ruined is the fifth instalment in The Winemakers Series by Giovanna Siniscalchi. I am heavy-hearted doing this book/review as I have previously enjoyed reading this series, and thought the covers were particularly lovely- the earlier instalments all getting ‘new’ covers as well, giving the series a more ‘unified’ and identifiable look. I had thought that the covers were hand drawn illustrations, even though I had some small doubts- but hoped that I was right because there is so much AI seeping its way into bookworld, it is getting harder to distinguish. So, I have given the author the benefit of the doubt, and read each instalment as it released.
But with this addition to the series, I am completely torn, because it appears that the cover is definitely AI generated, as the fingers on the FMC’s hand aren’t quite ‘right’ and definitely has the AI ‘polished look’- and that makes me sad- because now I have lost confidence in the author and the series- because how much AI has gone into this book/series? Now I am not confident that most of it is ‘by’ the author herself? If you are willing to go down the AI route, where do you draw the line. Just at cover images? Or help with writing? Editing? Development? Fully written by AI? The list is endless. Makes me question if these are ‘her’ words, her ‘work’- or merely generated by a machine? It really impacted my ability to enjoy the story- read it objectively- I found myself ‘picking everything to pieces’ and like I was really ‘selling out’ the whole time: that by purchasing/reading this I am supporting the use of AI- which I am ABSOLUTELY against. I feel duped, and stupid now for giving the benefit of doubt.
I am leaving this review in the hopes that I am wrong- but I don’t think I am. Yes, AI is way cheaper and faster and blah blah blah- but what is the ultimate ‘cost’ here? So many industries are impacted already- so many more jobs/industries will be threatened- all creatives now facing job loss/loss of income. The impact on humanity is, and will be, far reaching…. Especially with no oversight on the use of AI. If I am proven wrong here, then I am happy to amend my review. But as it stands, I am not confident that this is ‘human endeavour’.

4.5 stars!

Three Days to Be Ruined was a really lovely historical romance. Beth, an outwardly prim and proper lady, seeks a marriage of convenience with Scottish Highlander Boyd in order to save her father’s bankrupt wine business. Boyd himself has come from nothing and built a wine empire and when Beth comes to him, he realizes this is the perfect opportunity to humiliate her father who once treated him like trash.

Boyd gives Beth challenges to see if she could be a wine makers wife under the pretense he will marry her if she passes. To Beth, this is her future. To Boyd, it’s a game of revenge. However, Boyd grows a heart and a conscience when Beth proves to be something more than a way to enact revenge.

“Call me by my name.” his voice was hot on her neck, hot everywhere.

“That would not be proper,” she panted, her lips tingling, missing the contact.

“A winemaker’s wife calls her husband by his name.”

“I’m not a winemaker’s wife. Propriety—”

“You have my tongue in your mouth, Beth. Fuck propriety. Say my name.”

“Boyd.” His groan was low, unexpected, sending a jolt through her.”

While the plot itself was not unique persay, the tension filled slow burn and decadent chemistry between Beth and Boyd was really beautiful. Their tangible longing and passion felt so electrifying to read and their hard earned HEA was swoon worthy.

My only gripe would be the two chapters with POV’s from secondary characters. But to be fair I didn’t read their stories so maybe I would have been more engrossed in their chapters had I read their books. It did take me out of the romance for a hot second though.

Boyd’s character growth was fun to read. His reluctance to be attracted to Beth and his subsequent and surprising need for her to be only his was hot. Simple touches between the two of them felt like full blown erotic scenes.

And the cello scene? IYKYK. 🥵🥵

Beth was just as fun to read about. At first all we see is a lady shaped by the constraints of society but Boyd allows her to be who she really is and gives her the wings to fly and honestly it had me tearing up in a good way.

This story was relationship focused and I adored the way this author built their bond. It felt natural, all consuming and sensual. I will definitely be checking this authors other books out!

An enchanting holiday novella; not too Christmassy, but plenty of seasonal magic!
Whirlwind enemies-to-lovers with a dash of revenge and a pinch of entanglement-of-convenience set in the wintery winemakers countryside of the Portuguese Douro Valley.

~ Beth & Boyd ~
She’s an uptight English miss, and he’s a gruff Scottish self-made man.
Jilted by another expat six years ago and with her family’s fortune and good name dwindling, Beth is forced to offer herself to Boyd and save her father’s business.
He’s not forgotten her father’s slight many years ago and sees the perfect opportunity for revenge. He makes a counteroffer: three days and three nights to convince him she can be his winemaker’s wife. Six challenges and no honourable intentions, except... he will not ruin her.
But will she ruin him?

Yes, of course she does! A woman used to being pushed, prodded and moulded into perfection isn’t afraid of an uncouth Highlander - even if she occasionally needs a peptalk.
She’s endearingly naive and prim, and he’s a man who worked himself to the bone to have it all, yet the deafening silence of his new home haunts him. She wants his secrets, the man, not the tycoon, and he’s more than willing to tease her into shedding her strict restraints. Theirs is a wickedly delicious tantalising sizzling slow burn, and naturally, he gets burned.

I love how true this author stays to her own unique style, the love she pours into these characters - past and present - and their carefully crafted romances - never easy, but always deeply moving and so very satisfying.
This story is full of colour, detail and subtle humour, stolen treasure, small moments, wine and wisdom, darkness, light, teasing and tender loving care, passion, a heartbreaking finale and a fairytale grand gesture, completed with some beautiful cameo’s and two very steamy interludes by a few old friends.
A delightful tale I eagerly devoured in one night!

I'm a little bit late with my review, but Giovanna Siniscalchi has once again exceeded all expectations! This one gets 5 swoonworthy stars!! I was completely immersed in this story and wanted it to go on forever. The writing was SPECTACULAR, the story was stirring, the trials that Boyd put Beth through were both hilarious and unexpectedly romantic. I loved the vulnerability that came out with these characters and dare I say how scandalous it is to slay dragons in a house full of guests!🤭🤭

I loved seeing Julia, Griffin, Anna, The Count and their kids. It was a Christmas Reunion befitting the likes of a grumpy Scotsman and a proper British lady. I really didn't want this book to end. Thank you Giovanna for allowing me once again to get lost in your words. You bring joy and intrigue to the world of historical romance.

Oh how I loved this book!! Grumpy Scottish hero meets starchy English heroine in a seductive Portuguese winter countryside setting and boom we have magic. I loved how this story was a perfect blend of poignancy and humor, with all the angst and yearning my little romance loving heart could ask for. I’m a sucker for a grumpy/sunshine, class difference revenge plot and this blended all of those elements seamlessly.

Beth was such a great heroine, I liked that on the surface she was the perfect dutiful aristocratic daughter but underneath she was rebellious with a burning desire to be free and to find someone to accept her, not just what she represented. Meanwhile Boyd was my favorite kind of hero, tortured and gruff, self-made, ambitious and determined but with a heart of gold underneath his demeanor of ruthlessness. I adored the side characters who are favorites from this series and how they all were rooting for the couple in their own way. Another thing I enjoyed was the spice in this story, it served a purpose and in all instances perfectly blended passion and intimacy in the best way possible.

The writing as always was superb as I’ve come to expect from this author. I especially loved the comparisons of emotions to wine and winemaking, and how silence was made to be the villain, that was terrorizing poor Boyd. Overall this was 5 well earned stars, I absolutely adored this book, thanks for having me as a part of your arc team ❤️.

So good

This was by far one of my favorite Christmas stories because it wasn't a traditional Christmas story.

This story was fun to read from the beginning to the end.

I loved that even though the hero planned to do revenge ruin to the heroine he learned that past hurt isn't worth revenge but he can get past it and turn that pain into love..

I enjoyed the banter, the redemption, the love and happily ever after that this story has!

I can't say enough about this book

I definitely can't wait to see what this author brings us next!!

This had the bones to a 5-star book, but it seemed like big chunks of the story were edited out. I enjoyed Beth and Boyd's interactions, but this was definitely a fell in lust, not love romance. They learned barely anything about each other. I kept thinking we'd get some kind of backstory on Boyd and Beth, and maybe 5% is told. Really bummed because it sounded like Boyd had a really interesting history. 14 years old and somehow makes it from Scotland to Portugal. How and why???? I'll never know.

Loved this! A perfect little Christmas story!

Beth goes to Boyd on her father’s behalf asking him to marry her. Instead he tells her to come to his country house for basically a Christmas party for 3 days and she has challenges to pass. He never intends to marry her.

At the house party, they start spending time together and he realizes there is more to her than just a pretty, perfect girl. She realizes there is more to him than just a gruff highlander who wants power.

I loved all their challenges. You could really see their romance blossoming every time they were together. That wine tasting?!?! The cello concert?!?! Perfection!

Started and finished this book in a few hours because it was that freaking good! I mean instantly hooked and captivated and it’s the first Victorian historical romance that I’ve read and I honestly can’t wait to read the rest by Giovanna she’s amazing at what she does and I’m so thankful to have read her book and can’t wait to read the rest! I love how Beth is trying her best to be the perfect woman and potential wife to Boyd, while also finding who she really is and being able to let that out with him, he really helped open her up and she changed him too! He started with wanting revenge on her father for throwing him out like he did to being the only thing that could save Beth’s family’s business. I love quick paced novels and this one is a must read!

Ever since I visited Scotland and fell in love with its beauty and its people, I've developed a passion for reading about sexy highlanders. Three Days to Be Ruined is a standalone book within The Winemakers series. This romance is set in Victorian times and is rich in historical detail, vivid descriptions, and immersive world-building that will capture your heart.

Set during the enchanting Christmas season, the story is steeped in history, traditions, and cultures, all intertwined with the art of winemaking and a hint of sweet revenge—at least, that's what he thinks.

Beth devises a plan to marry for money, unaware that the very person she believes will help her is actually intent on bringing her family down. Meanwhile, Boyd thinks he can exact revenge on a man through his daughter. He seizes the opportunity to propose to her, but only if she can prove her worth. Confident that she won't succeed, he sets the stage for an unexpected series of events, and the fun begins.

The story is filled with magic, hope, dreams, desires, drama, passion, love, a whirlwind of emotions, and irresistible chemistry.

For me, this story was a definite 3/3.5 stars. There were some very good parts to it that I enjoyed, and in general, I really liked the heroine, Beth (Elizabeth) Croft, and the hero, Boyd Sandeman, who had his shining moments too, despite being somewhat "difficult" in the words of his friends. I adored that Beth had a hidden talent in which she expressed her true self and her passion for music, and I was pleased that Boyd came to his senses and did not want to humiliate and hurt Beth, as was his original plan for revenge against her father. I also liked that Boyd was a self-made man, determined and hardworking, although it was a bit unclear to me as to when he came to Edinburgh and lived there as a street urchin before moving to Portugal at the age of 14. Was he truly a Highlander then if more than half of his life was lived outside of the Highlands (he's about 30 years of age at the start of this story).

Despite the author's beautiful descriptions of the land and lovely imagery, I had some fundamental issues with this holiday story. While we know that Boyd is bent on revenge for being humiliated by Beth's father upon his arrival in Oporto at age 14, when we find out what the incident was, it seemed like the degree of anger that Boyd had stored up for 16 years was out of portion to the slight on his character, a teenager who'd lived on the streets of Edinburgh. I suspect Boyd was probably called much worse when he was an urchin in Scotland than when he came to Portugal, so for me, it didn't seem like a slight that would warrant 16 years of Boyd's fuming and planning for payback. His scheme for retribution was out of proportion to the crime committed, in my opinion.

Additionally, we read about Boyd's bevy of secrets, and when he reveals one of them to Beth, it's that he can't sleep, though it's not explained why he can't sleep. For me, the main characters were not as well-developed or fleshed out as I wanted them to be.

Perhaps the biggest problem I had with this story was that there were chapters devoted to other couples, whose stories had already been told in previous books - Griffin and Julia, Pedro and Anne - and whose sole purpose seemed to be to have gratuitous sex to boost the steam level of the story overall. For me, it pulled me out of Boyd and Beth's story rather abruptly, and honestly, the supporting characters took the focus away from the author's main characters, when these couples had already had their HEAs presented in prior books. Pedro and Anne have already had 2 stories about them in this series; why did they need a full chapter in yet another story? To me, it didn't make sense, and those pages could have been used to further develop Beth's and Boyd's characters, having them spend more time together, with deeper conversations and sharing of souls. Also, it turned out that Boyd's conversation with Beth's father toward the end was anti-climactic and glossed over - despite the reviled man being the focus of Boyd's planned revenge for years.

Lastly, this story needed a good, solid edit. Beth went from being called Lady Beth (she's not a lady per se; her father is a gentleman in trade, not nobility) to Miss Beth and back again, so I wasn't sure if her maid called her this because it was meant to convey a title or her nickname - and Boyd switched back and forth as well. Additionally, Beth is short for Elizabeth or Elisabeth - but not both for the same character.

In general, I liked this story, but I had some definite issues with it as well.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from BookSirens, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

Siniscalchi writes with such poetic prose one can’t help but swoon! Once again I find myself fully enraptured by the words of The Winemakers. This story captures the beauty of revenge unfulfilled, learning that there exists something more worthy than avenging insult - LOVE! Boyd learns the tough lesson through self-inflicted torture as he finds himself falling under the innocence of Lady Beth. She skillfully (yet unwittingly) woos him with her naïveté and lessons in decorum. The lone Highlander has longed for nothing more than to belong (even when he proclaims it is power and vengeance he seeks). Unknown to him, he is already surrounded by the found family he seeks. Seeing the brotherhood of Pedro, Griffin and Boyd was such a tender moment… three powerful, seeming rivals, yet true friends underneath it all. Paired with the new sisterhood of Julia, Anne & Beth… their support and encouragement truly showcased the way Boyd had creeped into their family securing a space for himself. Despite insecurity, Julia welcomed Beth with all the love and care she possesses and that was a beautiful sight. The beauty in Siniscalchi’s writing never surprises me as I have come to expect it, but what did surprise was the lighthearted humour in Boyd & Beth’s union. This dark, broody man becomes a smooth, irascible rogue in all his interactions with her. The teasingly tantalizing highland winemaker will win over the toughest critic. This story was an absolute delight of beauty, wit and the bond of the family one creates themself. I could go on as this story truly moved me, and I will likely revisit it again and again as my thoughts mingle.

The Winemakers' series is one to look out for. I've read three books in this series, and I've loved them all. This is no difference. This book was short, fast, and a wonderful read. I loved Beth and Boyd
👩🏼‍❤️‍💋‍👨🏼🍷
Beth is the literal opposite of Boyd, and I enjoyed reading about how both of them fell in love. I liked that the author gave Beth a chance to have her own love story because she made a presence in the previous book. Boyd was interested in Beth because of revenge and proposed a three day stay with him. Beth, with a destitute family, had no choice but to agree.
🍷👩🏼‍❤️‍💋‍👨🏼
During those three days, Beth and Boyd learned a lot about each other and fell in love too. This book was really fast and I liked it. I also liked that I saw other characters from the previous books in the series.

You should definitely read this if you want something fast and short. You can also read it as a standalone.

This was a lovely novella to read and perfect for the holiday season, too!

I really enjoyed getting to read a book set in Portugal. Seeing the land of my heritage through a historical romance story is so heartwarming to experience.

This story follows Boyd and Beth. Boyd is a highlander who owns a wine vineyard, and Beth, who is the daughter of English wine maker. Beth's family has fallen into financial straits. Beth approaches Boyd at her father's demand to propose an arranged marriage. Boyd accepts and invites her to a Christmas holiday house party at his new estate; on the condition that she be put through three challenges to see if they suit and if she can be a wine makers wife.

The "challenges" were delightfully filled with tension and the love scenes were steamy with unique settings. I really enjoyed that Boyd couldn't help himself to keeping little trinkets and pieces of Beth's clothing. He couldn't help himself to wanting to keep reminders of her with him at all times.

Alas, the only reason this wasn't 5 stars for me was like most novellas, I wanted more. This was my first time reading this author, and I really enjoyed the writing style. I will definitely look to reading more.

What a lovely story of growth, love, revenge, and passion. Boyd is a self-made winemaker after growing up neglected and alone. He was out for revenge against those who treated him as an “uncouth” Scot. When Beth walks in his office and proposes marriage, he has the ultimate key. While Beth is fighting to pass tests in order to save her family from ruin, Boyd is plotting revenge “a long time coming.” In the midst of this plot, the two find that their hearts are more in tune than either realized.

I adored how playful and flirty Boyd was. He kept stealing little ribbons and such from Beth to keep in his own treasure trove. It was really cute.

It was fun to see Beth grow and fall away from her strict societal expectations. The imagery that the author painted through so many items was amazing (wine, corset, bears.)

The ending was just beautiful. It had all the feels and left you smiling. What a well-written piece!

Blurb…..

A Scotsman with a taste for revenge…

For Boyd, Beth’s offer is a chance to settle an old score with her father, who once humiliated him.

Three trials, one Christmas, and undeniable chemistry…

These trials become more difficult than he first thought she is breaking his defences bit by bit .

She wasn’t to break him , her prim and proud ways were never going to affect him like it does or fall for her while Beth tries to hold onto her heart .

A great often sweet and tender story with enough of spice to warm you

Beth & Boyd
*
"Those highlanders don't rest until they've carried their women off to their caves."
*
Beth was jilted so now she can't really chooose her husband. Her father sends her to ask a highlander, of all people, to marry her. Boyd gives her three days and nights to prove she is suited to be a winemakers wife. Promising not to ruin her and if he does to marry her.
Boyd was humiliated by her father a long time ago and finds this lasses proposition a perfect revenge. But will he be able to hurt her?
She spends the holidays with him, her ex fiance and his wife. She goes through challenges and tries to prove she's worthy. They keep making up stuff how a winemakers wife should be.
Boyd is great at wine tastings. Where does one book this type of a tasting? Asking for a friend obviously...
I am obsessed with this story. Boyd and Reggie's silent competition is the greatest! I think this was my favourite thing besides the love story.
Will he actually carry his woman to his cave?

Excellence

Christmas in Portugal with a Scottish wine maker and English Sassenach (redundant) upon whom he wants to seek vengeance but cannot resist how much he desires and just *enjoys* her as a person? Omg yes! And she's got her own layers and depth that just made this novella a full-bodied, enjoyable experience, complex flavors but not overly so. No need to have tasted, er, read others in the series but you will definitely want to give them a try. 4 stars?5? Idk. It's all vibes man. Totally wine drunk on this one.

I love when I have the chance to be an indie romance cheerleader AND I was in the mood for a holiday histrom novella, so I very happily jumped on the chance to read an advance copy of this book!

What else I love? When he's set on revenge, but is annihilated by love instead!! (Again The Magic rewired my brain for this trope!!)

• cute, feisty banter!
• "I'm a man of honor, Miss Croft. I break it, I pay for it." (This line in context was so excellent 🤭)
• wine tasting, but with kissing!!
• the scandalous cello playing part!!
• supportive female side characters (characters from previous books in this series--but I haven't read them yet!)

3.5 / 5 ⭐️
3 🌶️

Plot: I enjoyed the fake marriage type situation because it was different than many I have read. I felt the story progressed and moved along well, and I loved how it all turned out. Super satisfying.

Characters: I really enjoyed the MFC and MMC - the comedy they brought to this story had me giggling out loud. It was such funny banter and very historical "fiction-esq." Made me feel like I was watching Pride and Prejudice or Bridgerton! Their chemistry was also undeniable!

Other comments: Super quick holiday historical romance. The Christmas setting was super cute. If you like historical reads this is a good one to add as a pallet cleanser!

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, in both good and bad ways.

The book started off, for me, really good.

From the very first chapter I was intrigued, interested to see how our main characters story would play out.

I liked Beth and Boyd, finding their little courtship and Boyd’s challenges for Beth interesting.

Unfortunately, the last challenge Boyd had for Beth, left me hurting a great deal for our FMC.

I completely understand where Boyd was coming from, and the fact that he didn’t go through with what he had initially planned was a big relief, but at the same time I feel like there wasn’t done enough to make up for what he did.

Beth was in love, and I totally understand that she just wanted her man back, but I still feel like she forgave Boyd toooo fast. He should have groveled harder.

Maybe it’s just me😭

Anyways, looking away from this, I was happy our main characters got their happy ending with each other!

I was internally battling with myself about the rating, conflicted between three stars and four stars, but in the end I settled with 3/3.5 - I just needed more groveling😫

All in all, I think this was a good book!

I devoured this book! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷/5
Don't know what else to say. Boyd the uncouth Scot is a self made winemaker business man who has been trying to prove to anyone and everyone that he is worthy of their respect despite his heritage. Even going so far as to correct his speech to sound more posh. He's rough and though he knows his manners he still chooses to appear ungentlemanly at every turn.

Beth Croft is the daughter of a rival. The perfect society lady. Her father humiliated him when he was first starting out and he's been set on revenge all these years. But once he gets to know Beth, he's faced with a choice.

Will he choose to live in deafening silence or fill said life with the peace that can only come from a winemakers wife? 😏

This book was such a whirlwind of emotions, hidden agendas, comic relief, spice, love and 'who hurt you?' but it was mixed together to create pure bliss.
There are so many things I loved about this book, from the way you get drawn in at the start with a small passage of text at the beginning, to the fact that no character felt lacking, even a couple of the side characters were fully realised characters to the beautiful ending.
The FMC is strong and stubborn, having to uphold societal standards yet will not allow herself to be bested by a man.
The MMC is a loveable roguish brut who is typical 'new money' but also has many hidden scars that affect his decisions and actions.
The hidden agendas that reveal themselves make you steel your heart for a while and there a few that crop up that make you feel cold towards them. However as the story progresses, you allow yourself to reopen the empathetic bonds with the characters and you feel their highs and their lows. I love the author's use of little comedic moments some are cute, some are just downright hysterical, yet they only add to the completeness of the story. The ending wrapped up beautifully and there were no loose ends which I loved. It was a nice quick read that left you feeling fulfilled. Will definitely be looking at the author's other works when I can.

Before I begin this review, let me add a little disclaimer here. As far as romances go I have a love/hate relationship with them. They’re usually a short diversion away from other reading.

The basic idea of the story was good. The revenge, the challenges, the fire.

A few things bothered me though, more specifically chapters 9 and 13. They added nothing to the story except spicy scenes through secondary characters because it was too early to let the MC get to it. It was the equivalent of going on a hot date and then coming home to rub one out to make it through till the next.

I have nothing against smut. But if you’re going to write it, write it, don’t put a pretty cover on it and call it romance. Leave the secondary characters where they belong.

Also, I almost shut it down when I read The End. The epilogue is like one final bang to out do the others in the novelty of it. By this time I was skimming.

If you’re here for the spicy and internal tension, this is your story.

This was my first dud in this series. I’ve loved the Portugal setting, the culture clash, and morally grey characters. And that’s the stuff that didn’t work for me in this one.

The three-day bet was an interesting premise and I liked seeing all my old favourite characters. But both of these MCs were a part of the English language enclave in Oporto (he was Scottish, she was British). And I missed having an MC from Portugal (and the culture clash that came with it).

This also wasn’t my favourite type of morally grey MMC? It had kind of a billionaire / mafia romance, she’s the daughter of his business rival, and he’s using her to get revenge—thing? I know most people will probably love it, but this kind of wealthy businessman white collar bad guy always seems so lame-o to me personally.
