An utterly thrilling complete epic fantasy series.
Packed with action and magic, the Rune Song Trilogy will leave fans of Mark Lawrence and Andrzej Sapkowski breathless. This box set edition contains the full series, plus an exclusive bonus novella.
No surrender. No retreat. With twenty enemy swords at their backs and a broken bridge ahead, the last knights of an outlaw order turn to fight…
Adelais was raised in the far north, learning stories of the old gods and the skill of weaving runes into magic. Now, she is locked in a convent far from home, forced to kneel to a foreign god.
When inquisitors arrive with plans to torture an innocent man, Adelais cannot stand by. She aids an attack to free the prisoner and joins the raiders as they flee into the night.
Her new companions are the last of the Guardians—once a powerful holy order, now ragged fugitives, hunted almost to extinction.
The knights carry a secret treasure, precious and powerful enough to shape kingdoms. Their pursuers, desperate to possess it, will crush any who stand in their way.
Nowhere is safe—in city or chateau, on the road or in the wilds. And even disguised as a boy, Adelais draws attention wherever she goes. Is she angel or demon, priestess or witch?
Adelais must summon all her courage and all her memories of the old gods’ magic as the noose tightens around her and a final reckoning approaches.
The Rune Song Trilogy is a heart-racing completed trilogy inspired by Viking magic, medieval combat and the fall of the Templar knights.

“Exceptional… An epic fantasy story that’s truly epic. A main character you can love and root for.
Hammer of Fate - 4 Stars a phenomenally engaging character-driven tale that is intrigue-heavy and utilizes narrative elements thoroughly for the entire book. While it may not be the most innovative tale in regards to fun fantasy adventures (action and magic galore), Gudgion excels at writing a story that is utterly engrossing. Gudgion’s comparisons to Sapkowski are (actually) definitely warranted and while I appreciate the setup and story more in The Witcher books, I think Gudgion is the better writer who doesn’t punish the reader by including unnecessary tangents and instead uses his skills to payoff intrigue, interest, and investment into the story. I do believe that the intimate-related aspects and the oppressive religious elements are a lot, but the story never truly lost me because of those. A very untraditional fantasy story that is thrilling, surprising, haunting, and effective.
Runes of Battle - 4.5 Stars a fantastic sequel and an incredible continuation of The Rune Song trilogy that elevates the ongoing story and ends in a truly stunning climax. Runes of Battle ends at the greatest level of excitement yet. Gudgion expertly opens and closes arcs and storylines from both books that is truly satisfying and effective in a way few authors are able to do.
The writing itself is by far my favorite part of these books. This isn't a set of books where I love the characters or find the plot to be my favorite, but the writing is just so effective that I can't help being drawn into the story. It reads very similarly to Andrzej Sapkowski in the way that it is simple but has incredible amounts of flair and meaning imbued to the words used. If it wasn't for the odd prevalence of Adelais' romantic interests in so many characters with unbelievable intimacy, these would be some of my favorite books of all time. Regardless of my personal tastes, the pacing, progression, intentionality, and narrative effectiveness are top-notch. I cannot recommend Gudgion's writing in this series enough.
Blood of Wolves - 3.5 Stars concludes the Rune Song Trilogy with purposeful intentionality but it fails its own story a bit. I really enjoyed the beginning and ending of this book despite the middle half being a little tedious and uninteresting compared to its predecessors. The highlights once again prove to be the characters (specifically the POVs of Taillefer and Gauthier) but Adelais' storyline is the most uninteresting of the three books. She still has a part to play and we learn and grow with her in a few new ways, but much of her storyline feels like filler or rehashing of previous concepts explored. I enjoyed that the dreaded war teased over the last two books finally shows itself but it never really feels as bombastic or exciting as I thought it would.
Regardless, Gudgion works magic by implementing effective writing, a balance of showing and telling, switching POVs, progression, action and tension. This trilogy was very enjoyable and worthwhile to read and I recommend it to anyone looking for a character-driven book series with deeply historical fantasy aspects.
