Genevieve “Vie” Stewart is on her way to becoming the next doctor in the family when tragedy strikes. Devastated, she returns home to Lewes, a small, picturesque town located on the southern Delaware coast.
Wondering if she’ll ever return to medicine, Vie agrees to help out a family friend who owns a local pub. Bartending leads to a hilarious friendship with the area’s most fabulous event planner and a newfound interest in all things restaurant, including a certain handsome chef.
But it's no surprise, in a town nearly 400 years old, with shipwrecks, pirates, and the War of 1812, that our girl, Genevieve, also meets a ghost.
Love, Lewes is a romantic comedy with a little bit of history and a little bit of mystery. It’s about being seen for who you really are and becoming who you were meant to be.
This book was emotional and had plenty of interest from page one. It was well written and the character had a very relatable voice. Even though I don't usually read this genre, I fell in love with the story, the characters, and the setting. It was a wonderful local read. While the main storyline featured a cis-gender straight romance, there was plenty of diversity among the supporting characters, including gay men and even a pansexual character. If you're looking for something cozy about a woman discovering who she is, processing her grief, and doing so while living in a small town beach community, this book is for you. It even has some paranormal elements with a ghost story as a side plot. I would love to see where our main characters end up next!
As I was reading this book I thought to myself that it is a love letter to Lewes, Delaware, and after reading the acknowledgments that was exactly the intention, so it made me laugh!
Even if you have never been to Lewes, Delaware you will enjoy this story. If you have been to Lewes, you will enjoy how much perfect description is included in this book. You will feel like you have stepped right into a Hallmark movie, because that is how I feel every time I go to Lewes, and the author writes it so you can see it clearly.
The book is a mix of mystery, history and love, so there is a little bit for everyone.
Thank you so much to DJ Griffin for a gifted copy. Congratulations on your debut novel! Well done!
Love, Lewes is the story of Genevieve “Vie” Stewart who is at a crossroads in her life…Does she go back to med school and follow in her late father’s footsteps? Or find something else that calls to her? And will she be able to stay in her beloved town of Lewes, Delaware?
Vie is surrounded by a great cast of characters that you wish could also be your friends! And when she meets Henry the ghost, he adds to the delightful mix.
I enjoyed being with Vie as she discovers things about herself she didn’t know. And I challenge anyone to read this book and not want to head to Lewes as soon as possible!
"Love, Lewes" is an enchanting novel that weaves together small-town charm, compelling romance, and a touch of the supernatural. Griffin creates characters who feel like old friends, drawing us into their world and making us fall in love with both them and the town of Lewes itself. The ghost-fueled mystery keeps us turning pages, while the rich local history adds depth to the storytelling. Griffin masterfully brings all these elements together for an ending that manages to be both satisfying and surprising.
I loved how this book was set in Lewes and written by a local author. Vie’s story of trying to find herself after her father’s death while also uncovering the mystery behind Henry the Ghost made for an interesting plot. I think it wrapped up nicely, but the journey there was a bit rough lol. I was not a fan of the writing style. Some of the chapters and dialogue ended so abruptly. Don’t even get me started on the dialogue… specifically the use of “yesssss” throughout the book. I think an exclamation point or adverb would’ve sufficed. Still a cute story that showcased Lewes though!
Filled to the brim with lovely details of Lewes, DE, this book is a must read for anyone who lives in or has visited the area. The main character, Genevieve “Vie” Stewart, eats at some of my favorite spots (The Station on Kings, Irish Eyes, & Cultured Pearl to name a few). “Love, Lewes” is a sweet love story, a coming to terms with figuring out your future, and a ghost tale that brings a sense of closure to grief. Warning: reading this book may make you extremely hungry!
This book is 3.5 stars for me! Always love supporting local authors. Such a cute story and was really interested in the historical side of Lewes, Delaware during it. Vie was spectacular. So strong after losing her dad. Love that she chose her passion for work! Henry gave Casper the ghost a run for his money😂. Filled a whole Vie had after losing her dad and love that Henry and Vie were related. Niko is a supportive KING! Paris the bff is the best side character!

So wonderfully well written. As someone who is from and still lives in Delaware, the details of certain landmarks while telling this beautiful story adds such a quaint/home aspect. This tells such a wonderful story of a woman trying to find her way in life and her next move with the help of others who love her and support her… and maybe she finds someone she never thought about who was there supporting her too.
This story was soo sweet and heartwarming. The writing was a bit clunky at times, but it lended to the Hallmark vibes I suppose. I would highly recommend this to anyone living in Delaware or anyone who has ever visited - I had a smile on my face just thinking about all of the places mentioned and the sketches were a fun touch.
Truly a love letter to Lewes. I am not sure if readers who are not familiar with the town would appreciate this book as much, but those who do, will really love locality of it and vivid descriptions of locations and food, as well as historical facts. The characters and storyline are lighthearted and enjoyable for a cute summer read.
A fun and light, feel good kind of book that makes a perfect summer read. Being new to the Lewes area, it was interesting reading about some of the history of this old town I now call home. I enjoyed the characters in the book and the wholesome and supportive relationships they shared.
I liked this book. Perhaps because I live in Lewes and it was fun to read mentions of places that I know or have visited. It is a light read but well-written. A combo of history and romance/love. I like forward to her next book.
A story set in Lewes, and you'll never forget that as it beats you over the head. I'm a sucker for a local story, but it was a bit much in this case. Name dropping everything didn't add to the story.
Loved this book. I love all the Lewes and Sussex County mentions in the book. As a native Delawarean and current resident of Sussex County, learning more about Lewes made this book so enjoyable.
