From Jenni Fletcher, the award-winning author of Formula 1 romance LIGHTS OUT, comes the next addictively steamy story, perfect for adult readers of Booktok faves Hannah Grace (Icebreaker), and Lauren Asher (The Fine Print).
Formula 1 superfan Ava Yearwood can’t quite believe her luck when she lands a job at Rask Racing.
Ava loves everything about working for the team . . . everything except their devastatingly attractive driver, Leif Olsen. His cold, brooding attitude should put her off, but frustratingly sparks fly during their every interaction.
Ever the professional, Ava is determined to avoid Leif at all costs. But when she’s assigned as his Media Officer, there’s just no getting away from him – and the flames smouldering between them begin to heat up…
Can Ava and Leif keep their careers on track, or will their insane chemistry steer them both off-course?

it started out solid but it went downhill as the story progressed. most of their dates and overall relationship happens off page wich ehh i simply don't see how we got from point A (a bit of a rough first meeting) to point B (them being in love) it just didn't flow naturally. and speaking about things that didn't flow naturally, there was too much going on for 300 pages. Ava has experianced a trauma that is sorta mentioned in passing but it is never really discussed which just made it irrelevent to the plot and character development. an irrelevant part of the plot was the whole Phillip Sawyer thing which ended up not actually being a thing, him trying to fuck them up was wholy unnecessary. introducing a female F1 driver Quinn would have been much more impacrfull if it was properly done but it felt like the author was just ticking off the box, like yay feminism withouth actually meaning behind it. her brother also gets broken up with by his fiancee and she just doesn't seem to care much about it? ignores him nad her boyfriend for two months and for what?! Laif was right when he told her that for someone who works in communications she sucks at communicating. Laif was from Norway...where is any part of his culture in this?!? why even mention him being norwegian Ava also talked to her very good friends once or twice this whole book. obviously not good at communicating with anyone i could go on and on about plot points that lead to nowhere and served no purpose but i'll stop. not one person had sort of personality or other interests besides F1 which just made it all fall flat.
i was more interested in the F1 races than their relationship or them as people
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! the Chemisty was amazing and the story and Lief in generel was sssso good just wish they spend more time together in the end Ava+ Lief for life
Omg omg omg This is exactly what I wanted right now for f1 vibes!! Ava and Leif are so cuteee!! The amount of kicking and giggles is crazy lol Everyone needs to read this NOW
I recieved a finished copy of this book for review
Wow wow wow!! I loved Lights Out but this truly blew it out of the water.
The angst, emotion, high stakes and fun in this book is unmatched. Set in the high-octane world of F1, there's always action happening on and off the track. It does a wonderful job of mixing the mundane, everyday life stuff with the exciting. I loved seeing the fast-paced nature of Ava's job in communications and I adored that you come to root for Rask as the book goes on. You truly all in love with the characters and the team.
Leif - oh my god. New favourite book boyfriend. I do not even have words. The way he literally barely speaks a WORD to Ava and is so grumpy but you get to see layers of him revealed as the book goes on? I die. I literally die. Why is he not real? Help me. He's the most wonderful character, so caring and funny as well. I think he's the perfect match for Ava and in a lot of ways is her total opposite.
Ava, sweet Ava. I would die for her. She deserves all the love in the world. I adored being inside her head and her character development was amazing. Following her journey made me feel proud. I will root for her for ever and ever.
The side characters have their own mini storylines so they truly feel real, and I adore them all. There's other side plots happening that would come along in the world of F1 but they don't distract from what's happening, they only add to it. I NEEEEED books about Corey and and Quinn. I literally would do a one-woman campaign to see more in this universe.
Honestly, the angst made me giggle, roll around, squeal, the tension is amazing and i LOVE a good forced proximity workplace romance.
Jenni truly has written one of the best here. She really knows how to write complex characters who have to fight for what they love.
I hope you all fall in love with Leif and Ava as much as I did. This series is phenomenal and I really hope we'll see more.
This novel is a fantastic Formula 1 romance, following the characters Ava and Leif, as they work on balancing their careers in the industry and their budding desires for each other.
Ava was such a determined character despite her anxiety making tasks more overwhelming for her, and had big ambitions for advancing her career.
Discovering the soft interior under grumpy Leif was really sweet to see unfold. I enjoyed his character and loved how gentle and caring he was towards Ava.
I felt like the author was quite knowledgeable about F1, and applied lots of little details and technical knowledge to make this novel feel authentic, and I was really immersed in the environment due to this!
Once Ava and Leif started dating, a lot of the time they spent together was off page, so it was only told to the reader, rather than experiencing it along with the characters and watching their feelings grow. I would have liked to see more meaningful discussions between them. There was a lot of exciting tension and buildup, but unfortunately I felt like it lacked romantic moments because the jump from them becoming secret lovers to boyfriend and girlfriend was really fast.
I loved what spice we did get in this novel. It was exciting and very well written, but I expected quite a bit more. Ava and Leif were super lustful and couldn't stop staring at each other. I was looking forward to them finally being together, but there wasn't as much steamy scenes as I had hoped; especially since this novel is described as being for adult readers, and was compared to some very spicy books.
I did become frustrated by all of the conflicts occurring in this book because they were all due to miscommunication. I know a lot of readers don't love this 'trope' but I'm quite used to reading it. However, the lack of communication, hesitation to discuss deep feelings, and ignoring her boyfriend for two months led to things becoming really messy and unnecessarily complicated. I understand Ava's hesitation to confront the issues she was experiencing, but I found what her character did really cruel, especially because her boyfriend was left feeling like he was a horrible person, all while he had to do his best performance in a race.
Otherwise, this novel was really good. I wish more of the focus had been on Ava's ptsd - as the reader spends the majority of the novel in the dark about what Ava has experienced in her past - and Leif learning about her past and helping her. Leif doesn't find out what has made her so wary of romance until the last few pages, which meant the miscommunication that occurred throughout the book was only added to by him not being able to understand her reluctance.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this!

The core theme in this, like it's predecessor, is "assuming makes an ass out of you and me". Am I guilty of it too IRL? Absolutely. Still drives me crazy in books though.
It was just as fun as Lights Out, and perfect for F1 lovers. Though I wasn't as huge of a fan of Ava and Leif, as I was Maisie and Gio. Their chemistry wasn't quite as hot, but it makes sense given who the characters are. We also got to see Maisie and Gio, which was great, and they got me through the first little bit of the book, because "What do you mean they're having problems?!" Realsitic, but still stressful. Anyhoo..
Fletcher manages to spend quite a bit of time on more specific F1 aspects, but still makes it digestible to newcomers too, so you don't need an expansive understanding to enjoy it.
You could feel Ava's nervous energy radiating off the pages, and I felt like she was a lot more one track minded, and less funny than we had previously seen her, but we didn't know her back story then.
There are some minor pacing issues, and the characters felt a little one dimensional, but it's a fun and easy read regardless.
My personal gripes is that I think Leif took her back to easily. But you do stupid stuff when you're in love, she technically had an explanation but I felt like "I've gone to go to therapy to work on myself" should've been included in the apology, and plenty of FMCs have taken back their SOs for doing worse so....
My initial vibes based rating was a 4, I'd probably move it down to a 3.5 now. But I don't regret reading it one bit, and definitely recommend others to try it.
Thank-you to NetGalley and Penguin Books for allowing me to read this ARC.
I read and enjoyed Lights Out last year and was eagerly anticipating the second book focusing on Ava! Honestly these books make me feel like I need to get into watching F1 haha.
Ava is a F1 superfan and has run a podcast while she studies. When she gets a job working for Rask Racing she’s thrilled, although one of the drivers doesn’t seem to like her much. Leif Olsen is cold and broody towards Ava, but everyone else thinks he’s a super nice guy, so Ava doesn’t know what it is about her that makes him not like her. Despite this, sparks seem to be flying every time they interact, and when she’s assigned as his media officer they get closer and closer.
This was such a good read that I whizzed through in a day. I loved Ava’s determination and Leif’s loyalty. I enjoyed watching him melt as he as Ava got closer, and him opening up to her about his past. For the most part their relationship was great, although a miscommunication near the end annoyed me a bit. Ava also had some mental health problems in her past that threatened to re-emerge and I do wish we’d had a bit more discussion around them. Overall though I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next one by this author!
4.5 stars - I really loved this book. It was a quick read where I loved both of the characters. I can relate to Ava when it comes to wanting everything to be organized and getting annoyed when it doesn't work out like you planned. I loved Leif as a character because he really is soft for her. I just loved this book and I hope to get a book about Corey. I feel like his book would be so good.
Couldn't put it down! More please. This was a sequel to Lights Out, but from Maisie's best friend Ava's point of view. Loved the characters, loved the story, loved the continuity.
The start of the book - average The middle of the book - great The end of the book - a shit show.
I’m sorry how on earth do we go from being smitten over a guy to avoiding him because he makes a choice YOU ENCOURAGED HIM TO MAKE. Leif is a fine character, boring and uneventful but fine. Ava is my least favourite fmc of the month BY FAR. She can’t communicate for shit, she’s self-involved, she clearly doesn’t care about how her actions affect anyone else. I recommend DNFing this book when you get to page 267 (even before that really if you want any hope of liking Ava)
I went into Falling Fast with high hopes, having loved Lights Out, and I’m happy to say this sequel didn’t disappoint. It delivered pretty much everything I wanted: steamy Formula 1 romance, tension, and emotional moments that actually landed.
A few things stood out: Ava is such a great heroine. She’s determined, real, and her anxiety/doubts are handled so well that you can feel her heart racing when things don’t go smoothly. Leif, with his broody-driver vibe, slowly peeling back his layers? Yes, that’s exactly what I live for in a romance.
I also loved how the F1 world felt real without being overwhelming. You don’t need to be a hardcore F1 fan to follow along; the technical bits, the team tensions, the pressure — all of it adds fuel to the drama rather than weighing it down. I'm always surprised at how well Jenni can balance the racing/behind-the-scenes parts with the romance.
There were a few things I wish had been tighter. The miscommunications toward the end felt stretched out, and some plot threads were teased and resolved too quickly. But those are small complaints in what is otherwise a super-satisfying romance. I just wanted more moments where Ava and Leif really connect off-track, not just tension or drama.
Overall, Falling Fast was a sweet, fast-paced, emotional read. If you enjoyed Lights Out, or just want a romance with heat, depth, and real feels (plus race cars), this one’s worth your time. I can’t wait to see where Jenni Fletcher takes us next in this series.
Honestly I really wanted to love this book especially after reading the reviews. I was hoping I would come across a replacement author for a light hearted quick read that has been kicking my feet after finishing all the Elle Kennedy & Elsie Silver series. However this book quite literally gave NOTHING. I had to stop reading half way through from pure boredom. The lack of chemistry, comedy or general ANYTHING was really tiresome.
Like I said, I really wanted to enjoy this book but it’s a solid no from me sadly!

Ava is a character I have been introduced to previously and really wanted to know more about. And I am so glad I did! She’s organised, dedicated and a habitual rule follower. However, we get to see her walls get broken down and her rulebook flung out the window. Seeing Ava gradually open up more and more over the course of the story was fantastic. The world from her eyes is one that can feel too chaotic without things being put into place but Ava has taught me here that letting go is okay! It’s okay if something spontaneously comes up and ruins your plans. Not everything needs to be rigidly planned out. Not to mention that it’s okay if your dreams take a different course or the details of it change! What a brilliant character Ava is! I was unsure of Leif in the beginning - just like Ava was. He seemed aloof and impersonal and not someone I would necessarily want to read about. But I am so glad I didn’t go off first impressions. Yes, they are important but a person can change and the initial meeting doesn’t have to be the be all and end all. Leif is a secret teddy bear really. He has a past that was hard but does his best to be a positive influence and helps others in the situation he used to be in. It was great seeing him open up more and more - especially in Ava’s presence. I think he ended up in a brilliant place at the end of this book. Will we see more of him in the future? I hope so!
I am not a big F1 fan - I’ll admit to finding it rather boring. However, since I thoroughly enjoyed Fletcher’s Light Out F1 romance, I knew I just had to dive in to this one. The plot is brilliant and fast paced - if you’ll pardon the pun. What I love is that it is in the same world as Lights Out, bringing back the main characters in a supporting role and bringing others into the light. I really enjoyed getting to see the unexpected success and satisfaction that’s included, showing that you can find joy in the unlikeliest of places. I will say that some of the jargon confuses me a little bit, however it’s all written simply so the reader can understand - at the very least - the general idea of what is going on. I did find though, that as the book went on I was understanding things more and more! The characters were wonderfully written. It felt like I was truly in Ava’s head, experiencing everything with her and feeling her emotions strongly. I always love getting to delve deeper into previously seen characters - especially those who featured quite a lot but we got more surface level details. The other characters were great as well. All were written with enough background detail that they never felt like fillers for the story. They all had a part to play in moving things along and also enhancing the overall plot. Now, I love a reluctant romance. Enemies to lovers is an ultimate favourite trope of mine and whilst that isn’t necessarily included in this story, we get little hints of it in the beginning. The romance we see is so fluffy and warm and gentle that I knew I had a smile on my face and I was desperate to kick my feet in joy. Why can’t I find a partner with such abilities for romance?! We do get a few little spicier moments but they still carried this wonderful warm and tender tone. It helped elevate the romance we witnessed but also allowed the reader to establish deeper connections to these wonderful characters which I loved. The ending was a perfect culmination of events. I loved where the characters ended up - and that there are plenty of opportunities to expand this universe further with multiple characters! I can’t wait to see what is next from Fletcher.
Overall, Falling Fast is another outstanding F1 romance from Fletcher that I highly recommend people read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Thank you again to Penguin Random House UK for an advanced copy of this book.
When I started this book I was surprised by the low rating on it. Yes, it’s very simplistic and the writing itself is kind of basic, but it was a solid four stars for me. Nothing brilliant, but readable and a good switch off kind of story. Then I read further, and yeah, I get it. The wheels fall off two thirds in. The pacing dies a horrid death and the book just became a convoluted mess. It’s an odd one to rate. It definitely reads as a second book in a sports romance series, and indeed it does follow on from another book but I can’t find anywhere where it says these two books are a series. I thought maybe it had a different publisher, but nope, still Penguin. I did actually think I might be wrong at one point because it hinted at an impending breakup and there was some chemistry with the BF’s brother, but as they have their own main book I figured this pairing would never happen. Then I got it mixed up with another formula one book I read with some similar character names, because it’s pretty much the same. And why is this tagged as Young Adult? I picked it up from the YA section in the city library, but it is very much adult. A very tame, mostly clean (but not actually) PG adult romance, but it does get down to the dirty later on. The MCs are in the twenties: a university graduate and race car driver. These are adults. Not even NA, but just adult. It reads juvenile, but it isn’t. It built a lot of things that just went nowhere. Like the whole deal with why our MC can’t trust anyone So much of this story happens off page too. I have no feel of chemistry if you just tell me they went on a date and it was nice. The reader doesn’t get to be in the action, we just get a summary of it later. The worst part was it is so super abrupt at the end it feels like the author got sick of writing it and just phoned in the rest of the book. Or was nearly at the word count limit so just decided to quickly tell everyone everything and be done with it. Literally two months pass where they can’t be bothered to write anything that’s going on, and then we’re just told everything instead of being shown. It is the most basic conflicting character garbage imaginable. I think AI would have done a better job of that rush ending. It’s like a tween wrote an F1 fan fiction and this is what came out.
