Lawless towns, deadly gangs, and no safe haven—will Kat make it home?
When a solar flare cripples the world’s power, trucker Kat is stranded miles from her daughter, with no food, no shelter, and no safety in sight. Small towns have turned lawless, and Kat must fight through brutal obstacles to reach her little girl. Every step brings her closer to danger—but also closer to the one person she refuses to leave behind. As chaos reigns, will a mother’s determination be enough to overcome a world gone dark?
I'm afraid I abandoned this read at chapter 5 on page 50. While the story premise was good, there were far too many errors within the five chapters I read. However, it was the repeated sentences which forced me to abandon this book. The proofing and editing of a manuscript isn't a fast process, and I feel this book, as it reads, may have undergone one P&E pass only, and a very quick one at that. It's a shame, but the errors did impede the read-flow, and therefore, the enjoyment of the read. I would recommend the manuscript undergo a minimum of two more P&E passes to fully weed out these errors and repeated sentences.
One of my biggest disappointments with post-apocalyptic stories is the almost incessant violence throughout. While this book certainly has violent sections, they are balanced by a storyline that features far more sane, rational, and peaceful people than bad. That almost makes this book unique. This work could have used a bit more editing, but all in all it’s one of the best in its genre.
I enjoyed this book so much. Love reading EMP thrillers. The characters were great. I couldn’t stop reading. Couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. Finished reading in two days. Recommend!
