Curses, secrets, and magical, power struggles rule over the kingdoms around the Agata Sea.

When Princess Beatriz falls in love with an enemy prince, her Papá refuses to allow a betrothal unless they can turn it into a treaty.

But even her kingdom’s current alliances sit atop a knife’s point when her brother’s anticipated nuptials don’t transpire. Instead, their allies make secret deals for the promise of magical relics.

Through investigation, she discovers that the same people who prevent the treaty are also the same ones who poison other allied kingdoms. To make matters worse, her best friend and beau keep secrets from her.

Beatriz and her brother take to the sea on a secret mission to expose their hidden enemy and uncover what everyone isn’t saying. What they find will test the limits of their magical abilities and everything they hold dear.

Untamed
By Candice Pedraza Yamnitz
The Agata sea duology: 2

It's been more than a year since I read book one... oops👀

So I was worried that I wouldn't remember a thing. But luckily there was enough recaps in this book to refresh my mind.

We swap now between the povs from Beatriz and Laude. Which was so fun! I have forgotten how much I love Laude, she's so sweet and loyal❤️

Beatriz has changed a lot since book one and it's nice to see her grow more in her faith and her own strengths.

The setting and characters were nicely done. But I felt like the thrilling stuff, such like fights could have been handled differently.
The book was good but I felt that I was missing something.

* fights
* death/ murder
* poison
* magic

This sequel was fantastic! Beatriz definitely showed how much she changed in this book, and it was fun to read from Laude's point of view. It was also neat how the villain tied into her series, and how the role of secrets played a part. I also found Beatriz's struggle to use her powers after the first book to be very relatable. Laude, too, with her over talkative nature, was fun and relatable. The plot itself was a bit convoluted, and sometimes I couldn't understand who was related to who and who was plotting against whom. But by the end, the threads unraveled, and I got the gist of it.
I also love how she is unflinching in presenting her faith in these books. I only wish there was more to the ending, perhaps a bonus chapter with weddings. I also felt like the main plot was left open to spin offs or sequels, even though this is a duology. That being said, Beatriz and Laude's story ended pretty well (though I do want to see them serving in a certain role that was made at the end). This book is also very clean, without any need for content warnings beyond PG level violence. Overall, a wonderful YA fantasy book!

Untamed is the sequel to Unbetrothed. Be sure to read the first book first!

This YA fantasy duology is wonderful! The characters are unique and believable, the world building is creative, and the plot is well-paced.

Untamed was even more of a wild ride than Unbetrothed, and I loved it!

I liked how the author uses mainly 2 POVs to tell this story. We see what’s happening from both Beatriz and Laude’s perspectives. If memory serves, there are a few scenes from other characters’ POVs as well to give the reader insights we otherwise wouldn’t get to see. A few new characters are introduced in Untamed, and of them, Minerva is my favorite. She’s so mysterious!

There are Christian themes throughout the series which I love. And there’s nothing inappropriate, so I can comfortably recommend the books to teens!

I was happy to back the Kickstarter for this book, so I’m looking forward to getting my hardcover set of this entire series, including the 3 prequel novellas (when they’re all finished)! It’s such a fun and unique fantasy series and I highly recommend it!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars!)

I recommend Untamed to teen and adult readers who enjoy stories with Hispanic/Latin cultural influences, Christian themes, fantasy adventure, political intrigue, and characters with magical giftings.

(As a member of the author’s street team, I was given an early digital copy of Untamed from the author with the opportunity to do a final-pass proofread. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions expressed in this review are my honest thoughts about this book.)

Obviously I didn't like the book. While I rated the first one with 5 stars, "untamed" was extremely disappointing.

In this book we get a second POV, and while I'm a big fan of 2 POVs, -especially when it comes to romance, - this time I didn't like it. Instead of Zichris pov we get Laude's, which is confusing and annoying. I barely liked her in the first book and after reading "untamed" my misgivings were confirmed. She's definitely not the brightest candle on the cake (pun intended...), which wouldn't be a problem, if she were honest with Beatriz. She's the worst 'best friend' ever, lies to Beatriz, deceives her and simply isn't there for her, even though B. is in desperate need of a friend. Laude goes gallivanting with her boyfriend and doesn't even tell B. how she could be with Zichri. The reason as to why B&Z shouldn't see each other is more than thin and implausible. And in the end the author didn't follow through with it, so why keep them apart for sooo long in the book!?!?? Back to super-annoying Laude: There isn't one bit of a spark between her and Jamie, I don't get why they like each other, they have zero chemistry and their characters can best be described as shallow. You could erase their whole plotline from the book, you wouldn't miss a thing and it might even be better.

Beatriz. I admired her character arc in the first book. It was cleverly done and felt natural. In "untamed" she's like a whole different person. Yes she might have a trauma -which the author wrote about, but honestly I didn't see it. If she had a trauma, that trope was poorly explored and explained and it just felt like an excuse for the author to spin outrageous plots (with maaaaaany holes in it!!!!!!!). Apparently B's parents love her - it didn't feel that way. Just because she's a princess in a fantasy world doesn't mean, the family can't TALK about what happened and find ways to deal with and process everything that has happened and is happening. Beatriz felt off. I loved her sarcasm and authenticity in the first book, her playful, deep and honest relationship with Zichri and her ability for self-reflection. She still has a nice relationship with Zichri, and honestly Zichri is so kind and supportive of her and their relationship was one of the best parts of "untamed" -although they never kissed, which is unbelievable and unnecessarily prude (imo).

Then there was this whole Monserrat-Cosme-Minerva thing going on, which was poorly solved. Minerva seems to be the answer to everything in the books - we need to travel the world- Minerva's a portal maker. We need a safe place - there's no safer place than Minerva's house. We need sth specific from a specific person -Minerva knows them. We need a ship - Minerva gets it. We need insight to someones plans - hm, who might know them??? .... Also it's casually mentioned, that she has a very significant position - which actually is important for the whole story, but isn't explained further.. and Cosme needed a new love interest.. the author always sought the easy way out (of every scenario). Montserrat and Cosme could be an extremely interesting relationship in which both would have some serious growing to do. But Minerva .. Minerva IS an interesting character - it just bothers me, that she's being used as said "easy way out"...

Then, what we hoped for in book two- Beatriz' gift! It's such a cool gift!!! I loved the idea. And we get like 3 scenes where she barely uses it!!!! What the..!???
It was so disappointing and so stupid and unbearably annoying, I can't find more words for this ultimative No-Go. I just hated it.

There was one extremely cool scene though: when the villain couldn't do something, simply because one MC prayed for protection. That was badass and probably the most authentic scene in both books. It was simple, yet powerful and I wished, more Christian authors would tell about that beautiful, simple side of God's character , instead of spinning tales of complicated plans and Blabla. In this scene C.Y. nailed it. Credit where credit is due: +1 Star for that scene alone.

Untamed - A YA romanticy by @candiceyamnitz This is book 2 in a series about a young princess. While, in the first book she is a bit spoiled and immature and has some growing up to do, in this second book she has continued that process and is working to save her country and work towards a marriage that seems doomed from the start. There is intrigue, spying, politics, and, yes, some magic. But it’s also about choices, gifts from God, friendships, and intrigue. Oceans, food and Spanish medieval themes were also involved making it a win! I enjoyed the first book but this one was even better!
Swearing: none
Spice: only a few kisses on the hand and on the forehead.

This is a duo POV. I understand why but it confused me. Normally duo POVs are of the MMC and the MFC. But not this one. It was Beatriz and Laude. Plus, we never see the villain apprehended. So, it wasn't concluded in my mind.
The story was good, don't get me wrong. It just didn't have that satisfying ending knowing that the bad guy lost and the good guys won.
We see more of the spy network in this one. It was a good adventure!

The heart pounding adventures of Princess Beatriz and Laude continue with new characters and an overseas quest. Laude’s role expands in this story as she partners with Cosme, Jaime, Prince Zichri, and their friends on a secret mission that leaves Beatriz in the dark. Lovers of YA clean fantasies with a hint of romance will love this fast-paced story. Ai-yi-yi!

While I didn’t get a chance to binge this book as hard as the first one, I wish I did! I loved this one even more than the first!

The dual perspective in this was great & we needed it with how much is going on! Oh my! A very fast & furious read that kept me on my toes with each chapter.

Several intriguing new faces & a few returning ones with a lot more spotlight this time. With multiple kingdoms involved, & so many powers at our characters’ disposal, things get pretty intense in the colorful Agata Sea region.

With so much emotional investment & a couple open ended factors, I look forward to our next prequels & any potential spin-offs in the future!
